Just some thoughts and reviews of my short snuff time. I started in October feeling unfulfilled with e-cigs trying to quit smokes and started using snus and stonewalls. Found a few Poschl’s at my local tobacco store. I found I really liked it and placed an order each with Tom and David started looking around at other stores and found my first scotch Brutal I mean Bruton. I remembered all the rules-sniff gentle, still I thought my face was going to melt. Then I tried Red Seal ok for my first sweet. Than I continued my search local and found WE(scotch&S&M), Dental(scotch & sweet), Conwood peach and Society . Tried these all and found I could use them a little bit better than Bruton. A Few days later I found the mother lode of Americans at Ingle’s grocery store they had the elusive Swisher’s so now I got Square, Superior, RR Mills(sweet & plain), Navy sweet, Honeybee and, although not Swisher Tube Rose(my fav sweet). I filled out the rest of the Americans at Tom’s. Miamimark sent me a sample of Stokers plain (I have to order before they stop mailing this is a great snuff). Then i made an order from Roderick of 10 cans, liked them all. So here is where it is interesting I have all this snuff in January(roughly up to 60 tins no duplicates, yet) I was not really enjoying it and thought I was going to give it away and then I went in February for surgery on my nose and have my tonsils removed did not smoke after the surgery for about a two weeks. Snuff did not really appeal to me after my surgery than after about a month goes by and in March I took a pinch and it was wonderful and then I went through several pinches and then started placing orders with Tom, David, and Roderick for new snuff and found Heartwood boxes local. Cigs and ecigs are virtually ZERO interest, Snus is starting to boring me, but the snuff is great it is like my nasal surgery changed the inside of my nose it is not as sensitive to the scotches or toasts, and all the other snuffs I have recently got are just great. I recently received O&G after reading about it I use it every day upon waking now. Cheese&Bacon for a joke is a totally awesome snuff. All the Dholokia, Grunt, QWS, WOS I have tried have been great. Although WOS jockey club is nice but has such a long lasting powder floral scent (definitely not an all day snuff) . At last count since October I am up to 101 different snuffs ( not bad for 6 months) and looking at what to order next. Swisher sent me six coupons so now I have a couple of years worth of Square and Superior( six cans for $6.94). So now to wrap this lentghy post up I find snuff will be my main go to as I dwindle down my snus reserve about 20 cans. So now I never leave the house without a scotch and European snuff in my pocket. Happy Sniffin’ to all
great story ready it all with interest because I myself have tried around 100 different snuffs, have already settled on a few but still ordering. Was just curious about the number of totally different snuffs out there. I read somewhere there are about 460 ? Happy snuffin’
Good news all around rr That nasal surgery was a true blessing in disguise for you. My route to snuff is similar, e-cigs to snus to snuff, but fortunately no nasal issues. Well except for the occasional nasty snuff that is. I still hit the e-cig 2-3 times a day, and whilst the desire for and pleasure from snus is dwindling, I feel I still need it for the nicotine. Serves it’s role in that it allows me to fully enjoy snuff! Would be nice to get away from the snus as you are doing, eventually for me perhaps. Luck!
I’ve been snuffing for a little over 3 years. Over that time my interest in dip, ecigs and snus has fallen to 0. I think the greatest thing about snuff is that there is always something there for whatever you want, fruit, menthol, strong, plain, sweet, floral, spicy, fine, coarse, etc.
“Over that time my interest in dip, ecigs and snus has fallen to 0.” I’m offering a support group for the problem you describe, if you’re interested. We all get together, talk it out…yes, there is some laughter, crying, spitting, …but we come to grips with the problem. You know how to get ahold of me
Notice how I left out chew? I still buy a pouch of Levi or Redman every now and again, it’s a special treat though. Dip gives me so many issues that it’s not worth it. Not sure if my throat will heal after a while and I’ll be able to dip again, but it’s mostly the side effects that makes it undesirable.
I know what you mean…I’ve cut back on Dip quite a bit–Acid reflux or heartburn, not sure which…possible hairball, for all I know…
Yeah, it gives me gastritis for a few days, very uncomfortable. It might be a hairball… or a hampster, you did say something about a hampster… right?
I do not use snus regularly and when I leave home, I don’t take any along. I can and did go without it for a week and longer. Snuff is a different matter. When I wake up in the morning, first thing I do is to take a pinch. I often take a pinch during the night too if I can’t sleep. I might be hooked but who cares! I’ve tried dip a couple of times but it does not appeal to me. I don’t like the “grains” of snuff between my teeth and it also hurts my gums. I might still try chew but then it will be something like Black Twist which is quite dry.
I’ve never had these issues with dip that others report. I haven’t used it long, and not always every day. But I have emptied a few cans, and it hasn’t given me any negative effects. Chew either. But I do find my enthusiasm for snus dwindling. I might use 3-4 portions a day, but usually/only at work, or when out, at home, I usually use dip/chew. I do snuff at work and home, but rarely when I go out.
Most long time dip users have chronic heartburn/acid reflux. It’s only a matter of time.
Tis true. Once you feel the declawed hamster, you WILL QUIT, Tom.
I have dipped off and on for about 10 years. The longest stretch was for about a year during one of my attempts to quit smoking. I still buy the occasional tin to have handy for the certain situations where only a dip will do, like while fishing, playing golf (although cigars are good here too), etc. I bet my consumption of dip is at a steady 10 cans per year max because I will literally go months sometimes between purchases. That being said, I will still go through an occasional 2-3 week phase where I will dip frequently. Usually it is the wear and tear on my gums that brings me back to snuff, but I have never had heartburn or acid reflux issues from dip. I feel that occasional indulgence is ok, but being a user I can tell that it is a dangerous habit to get into consistently.
I have been quite ill, and havn’t smoked my pipes or cigars, havn’t felt like snusing, but I have been using snuff mostly Navy Plain) It would take a lot to make me loose my appetite for snuff.
Dip on my left side irritates my gums, and on the right side, my jaw starts to hurt after 5-10 minutes. Plus, if I don’t have a litre of Sweet Tea to go with it, my mouth dries out and the heartburn kicks in big time. I still like my snus, and take snuff whenever I want to top things off. Chew or a scotch dipped don’t give me the same problems as dip does, but I’d just rather put some snus in than chew or a scotch.
I’m not much of a chewer/dipper/snusser. I have a container of Oliver Twist that I bought just because I hadn’t tried it before. I haven’t had a dip in well over a year. And haven’t had any chew in over 3 years. I’ve never had snus, well not real snus, just the crap that Camel has put out which was good for candy but not for nicotine. I haven’t had a real cigarette in almost 2 months, but I have had a couple Djarum Black clove little cigars as an “indulgence”. I snuff all day long though.
I smoked almost two packs of cigs a day for many years. Five years ago, my doc told me, after a chest x-ray, that I had a pre-emphysemic condition. I quit cigs that very day, and used Skoal to negate my nicotine psychosis. I then returned to the pipe, smoking about five bowls a day. The Skoal was making my gums hurt and my teeth brown, so I quit that as well. Then, along comes snuff, and I cutr my pipes to one or two per day. I was tempted to try Snus, after receiving a sample, but was reluctant to get into another cycle… The taking of snuff has been a very literal life-saver for me, that’s for sure. I love the stuff! -Dwayne
I never used anything regularly before I started snuff, I didn’t really like smoking at all, and I didn’t even consider other tobacco products. Due to that, I’m not really nicotine dependent, except for psychologically, as I enjoy snuff so damn much. But I have stopped for days and weeks at times as needed before, and no unpleasant side effects or urges for nicotine really occurred. I just came back to snuff because it’s great. It’s like powderized pleasure, both aesthetically (physically), and experientially.
