I finally found my blend of awesomeness. 5 Toque Quit : 1 Toque SP Extra (by volume) The SP Extra is just a bit potent on the scent for me, but I wish the original had a bit more punch to it. My ratio is perfect for my taste, and a touch of saline mixed in keeps is from making me cough. My big question is this: Does anyone have any other techniques for adding a bit of moisture/saline to snuff? I spritzed mine with a spray bottle, but the drops are big and the spray area is so big it made a huge damn mess. Has anyone tried putting a poist piece of cloth and letting it rest overnight or anything?
Yes, there are many methods for rehydrating snuff. Try doing a search of the site (use google, not the built-in search feature). I just retrieved two snuffs from my hydration lab (bathroom sink counter). My favorte method is to nest a bottle cap - top down into the middle of a large snuff tin (decant 10g or smaller into something larger, like a snus size or 25g Wilsons size). Then I use an eye dropper to fill the caps with water. I close the lid and come back the next day. If the snuff had gotten dried out, it is now rehydrated to its factory specs and it is distributed evenly. Better still than direct application, the water is naturally distilled since it had to evaporate in order to get into the snuff thereby avoiding any contaminents it might have carried. Another great idea is to use a piece of apple or carrot and drop it in your snuff box. Either will sacrifce its moisture to the snuff. I like to hydrate a tonka bean and use that, if the snuff can handle the flavor. If I’m feeling festive, I hydrate the tonka bean in whiskey instead of water, then split the bean and drop it in the box.
Pardon the typos. My I key only works a third of the time it seems.
@dogwalla sounds like we have similiar tastes! I’ll have to try that! Have you tried Gold Label or Grand Cairo yet? MMM! Dont forget Tom Buck!
I use saline nasal spray, the stuff for babies with nothing but sterile saline in it. I mist the surface of the snuff, then I mix the resulting thin layer of ‘mud’ with the rest of the snuff. Left sealed overnight, the saline distributes evenly throughout the snuff, and after another mix with the knife to break up any clumps, it’s ready to go. I have revitalized a whole 25g tin of WoS SP that sat for two years in an improperly sealed tin in this way. The snuff was completely dessicated, but it was as good as new after the saline. It expanded quite a bit, and it was like opening a new tin, ammonia and everything.
@transistor I haven’t tried them yet. I’ll get them on my list for the next order though. @doctorbeat that’s essentially what i did to this batch, my sprayer is just a pig. I may need to hit up a big city to find a mister that puts out finer particles. The selection is a bit limited here in Nowhereville.
