I very much like St.Casura, and I would like to try another of this fine snuff maker’s products, so I’m asking for a recommendation. To give you an idea of my tastes, my main favourites, in addition to the St.Casura, are WoS Best SP, Viking Blond, and Fubar Medic. So, what should I try next and why?

The Abraxas snuffs all have their own distinct qualities, as I’m sure you’ve picked up, and they are all worth a try. I’d say Dragun or, since the Medic indicates that you like menthol, Dragun Menthol or Firedrac. The latter two are mentholated, although quite lightly. All three are quite dry and fine. For me, they could work as “all day” snuffs. Cafe11 is great, but more of a desert snuff and a bit inclined to clog me. I really liked Premium Club, both fine and coarse, but they also feel like luxury snuffs that I’d only want to take occasionally. In the end, it’s hard to go wrong. I’d say you could almost pick one at random, or according to whim, and then go on to the next one next time.

@Thunderbird, I would recommend, in light of your favorites, to try the remaining Abraxas snuffs in the order below. This is only my opinion, of course Dragun Menthol (very little menthol but it is used to bring out the beautiful scents and “flavors” in the blend) Dragun Cerise Cafe 11 FireDrac Premium Batch Fin In other words, try them all. They are all truly exceptional and each is generous in the nic department. In my cheap opinion, it is difficult if not impossible to understand the potentials, possibilities, and horizons of snuff without exploring and studying the Abraxas line (and SWS as well). But like I said, that is only my cheap opinion, and nothing more. For my part, my favorite of the Abraxas snuffs seems to rotate. For a while it will be Cafe 11, then it becomes Cerise, after that I become fascinated by St Casura, and on and on.

“Cerise Fire Cure is based on the original snuff but the flour is a blend of the standard rustica tobacco and Indian fire cured leaf, giving a dark, smoky flavour.” Not to be missed! Unfortunately only presently available in 50g. tubs and $$$!

@fredh, considering that the more expensive Abraxas snuffs cost over a dollar a gram, it’s not exactly a cheap opinion. But I agree with you entirely, nonetheless.

F

LOL! Well said @JakaraBoy.

Good point @Mouse. I forgot about Cerise Fire Cure!

For me Dragun is the quintessential Abraxas snuff. I can take it all day with enjoyment and it also packs a decent kick. The menthol is good too, some days I would say better even, but I would start with Dragun and get to know that first. Actually I just got an order in and have just tried St Casura and I am so far liking it a lot. It is different from most other SP’s that I have tried yet it still has bit of SP zing that I get from Tom Buck and Toque Original that I enjoy. In fact if had just tried it without reading about it I would of called it just a dark toast so far but that could change as the tub is still fresh and many a snuff has changed to my nose as I progress with them. Whatever your next Abraxas may be it will be good. I have now tried all of them and they are all at least very good and some great.

B

dragun menthol is my go to snuff do you need to know more then that?

C

Another vote for Dragun Menthol, it is sublime. I must order some more after I’ve worked my way through some of my current stock.

M

Dragun Menthol for sure…

T

Thank you so much for all this, it’s very helpful. I’m really looking forward to my next ones.

N

another vote for Dragun Menthol, its more than just Dragun with menthol

Speaking of menthol, when I had a cold L260 was the bomb (as Jessie in Breaking Bad would say) but my morning snuff is always Fubar medic. I don’t like the name as I think it doesn’t do justice to what is a complex snuff with great character. I take it at least once every day. How do the Abraxas ones measure up?

M

@Thunderbird - Dragun Menthol is nowhere near the ‘Menthol Bomb’ that Hedges or McChrystals O & G are. This is a nice subtle menthol that isn’t over powering. It has a kind of toasty scent similar to St. Casura also. I personally find it very good, it’s displaced Hedges for my ‘go to’ everyday menthol, the chilli adds an extra dimension and gives scope to what is already an interesting bouquet. Dragun is good too, but the menthol seems to lift in into something really special. Premium batch fine is probably the only other one that I enjoy frequently pinch after pinch (course is nice too mind ) But it is a more decadent type snuff. To my mind the other Abraxas offerings are all excellent but not all-dayers in the same way – I hope you enjoy which ever you end up selecting

J

I always thought I couldn’t stand menthol. And then I found firedrac. Actually, the Indians do menthol toned down to tolerable levels, too. Dholakia Sparrow a case in point.

T

That’s perhaps why I like Fubar Medic, it’s a lot more subtle. I’m not sure I like the idea of chilli though. Chilli and noses (and various other parts of the body) seem destined to avoid each other.

M

@Thunderbird - I know completely where your coming from on the chilli; sounds an odd ingredient for a snuff doesn’t it? Dragun isn’t as strong in terms of heat as Firedrac (Clue in the name!) but really does add something pleasant to the blend, unlesss someone told you it could well escape your notice though…

Cerise Fire Cured is the sleeper hit of the 21st century. Delicious smoky base with a nicely balanced cherry liqueur finishing note and one hell of a nicotine hit. The scents linger for a long time and it’s very easy to take, especially in large pinches. Worth every penny and then some.

J

@Thunderbird, the spices in Dragun are certainly not overpowering. They just add warmth and their own fragrance. In sharp contrast to the vile Bohica, but don’t get me started …

T

BOHICA, says it all really.

T

Bit of a bumpity bump here but I’be just ordered Dragun Menthol. I’ll let you know how it goes.
