My new wood snuff box Hi everyone, I just won a snuff box on ebay for 26 gbp Which seems like a OK price. I have noted that wood snuff boxes tend to dry snuff out, so I was going to seal it with beeswax, I have heard of pipe wax, so what do you all suggest? -Tom

I’m sorry, but I can’t seem to attach a file, to show to show you what it looks like or edit my post. I think the wood is walnut

I’ve got a couple of wooden boxes, and whilst snuff does dry out in them I only put a day’s worth in at a time, so the drying is pretty negligible. Sometimes slightly drier snuff can be nice! I like F&T Old Paris when it’s dried a little bit in my snuff box.

Let’s see if I can attach a file

I keep my wood boxes in a jar or my humidor when not in my pocket. A dry wood box will slowly suck the moisture out of your snuff. A tonka bean or a vanilla bean put in the box with the snuff can also help with hydration. A very nice box at a fair price you have there.

Thank you all for your suggestions

Nice looking box @tboyer. One of that style is on my wishlist. Yes, a bit of any sort of wax I would think should plug any gaps, and help with moisture control. Beeswax is good because its easy to apply and you know its not toxic if it gets in your snuff. Also it does not have an unpleasant odor.

@tboyer ,Tom any natural wax will work, I use pipe wax because I have pipes, If you have a butcher block then use butcher block wax. By all means if you have bees wax you need not buy another. But don’t use aerosol furniture polish.
