This is just a quick review of a couple of snuff boxes I recently ordered from Rajek’s House of Smoke. I’ll start with the basic and more affordable one first. Material: Steel w/chrome plating. Dimensions: approximately 2-1/16" in diameter and 11/16" thick. Price: 4,96 EUR Item # HA-014490 Upon first glance, one may notice the design of this snuff box looks very simple and quite basic which, may give you the false impression that it’s cheaply made. Do not be fooled! This is one solid snuff box. The metal doesn’t seem soft and brittle like it’s some piece of crap made in china. In fact, I can’t see the phrase ‘Made in China’ anywhere on this thing. The chrome plating is also done quite well. It has a mirror finish inside the lid and out. In fact, you could probably fool a woman into thinking this was some sort of makeup kit. I get the impression that if any chrome comes off this thing, it will be after years of it being rubbed and worn in my pocket. I would honestly be shocked if any started to flake off of this thing even months from now. It has a basic hinge in the back and a spring loaded release button in the front. (Notice: the button has a spring, not the lid.) It’s very easy to open and close. For those of you who have fumbled around with tins that had removable lids and spilled your snuff all over your car when you should have been pulling people over for traffic violations (I’m not going to name names), this would probably be perfect for you. I wouldn’t say this tin is air tight but, you can shake it all you want and even drop it on the floor. No snuff is coming out until you are darn well ready for it to. Yes indeed, this is a working man’s snuff tin for certain. Personally, I don’t think I’d leave snuff in here for more than a week for fear that it would dry out quite a bit. I would, however, feel perfectly fine taking this on a 3 day trip, fully loaded with snuff. I know some of you are going to ask, so I’ll just beat you to it and tell you it’s F&T Bordeaux. It’s getting late; I’ll review my other (nicer) snuff box tomorrow. Pictures of this one are below.
Pretty nice. And being chrome plated steel, you could throw a damp piece of cloth or damp q-tip end in it to refresh it if the snuff did dry out and you wouldn’t have to worry about damaging the box.
Very nice Satyr, my main concern about this snuffbox is only this. If placed in say your front pants pocket, how likely is it that the button release could be inadvertantly pressed causing your box to open? The fact the lid is not spring loaded and that from what I can tell from your review it seems you need to press the button and then open the box leads me to think all should be well. One last question, about how heavy does it feel? Is it heavier than a normal tin of say wilsons? I’d like it to be a bit heavier myself than a normal tin myself. Thanks for the review, I’ve contemplated picking one of these up and your review is quite helpful. As for traffic violations, lol. I’m pretty leniant, I havn’t written a traffic citation in well over a year. Granted I work in un unmarked car dressed in civilian clothes, on a gang team which targets gang activity (mainly guns, and drug sales). But even when I worked patrol, you had to be a pretty big d*ck to get me to write you a ticket. I speed so much, that I always felt like a hypocrite if I wrote a traffic ticket for something I do all the time, lol… Looking forward to your next review…
Yeah, I have a lead foot myself. I’m always doing 88 on 88 if ya know what I mean. And, yes, this tin is heavier than the Wilson’s tins. I also don’t think there’s any chance of it opening in my pocket. I’m taking it to work today, so we’ll see.

I have one of it from Rajek. It’s a pretty box, but not too handy because the locking is very bad and snuff gets off.
Sorry for the delay of this next review. I’ve been a bit busy lately. Besides, I wanted to spend some time with this item in order to give a proper review. So, here it is: Material: Solid sterling silver (92.5%) with small saphire. Dimensions: 2" in diameter (not including the flip lid for doser) and 5/8" thick. Price: 117,65 EUR Item # SI-91816 First of all, this snuff box comes packaged quite decently. I had to go through three layers just to get to it. It was wrapped in a plastic bag, which was inside another bag made of a thick felt (it almost reminds me of suede) with “Sillem’s” poorly stamped on it. This bag, gray in color, also includes drawstrings. This was all inside a simple cardboard box, which also brandishes the Sillem’s name. If you are one of those people who’d rather be impressed with the product than some over-the-top fancy packaging, then you certainly won’t be put off by any of this. The packaging was adequate and not much more. I neglected to take photos of this. I wanted to focus more on the snuff box itself. Fresh out of its wrappings, this thing is one gorgeous piece of craftsmanship. It has a flawless mirror finish that will leave you reflecting any available light in your eyes for at least the next couple of minutes. Make sure you don’t leave the kettle on, you may forget about it. Take my word on this; Enjoy it while it lasts! What was once without a scratch, knick, or smudge will soon change once you get your grubby little hands all over it. Though, I fully expected this. It still cleans up well. And you will have to clean it but, I’ll get to that in a second. Once the, “Ooooooh…preeeetty…,” reaction goes away, you’ll start to notice how well this thing is made. I work with sheet metal for a living, and I can tell right away that this is not something that was simply stamped out in mass quantity by some completely automated machine. I’m sure that at least some parts of it were. But, make no mistake, a skillful human had to put their hands on each and every one of these to add the final touches. Here are some pictures:
As you can see from the photos above, this thing is sealed off very well, even at the hinge. In fact, I think this thing would be water tight if it weren’t for that moving part. Even then it would be a slow leak. As far as any snuff escaping or even going stale, I’d say not a chance. The door to the doser seals very tightly, especially being equipped with a rubber gasket. My only complaint is that it’s pretty hard to open and close…at first, anyway. You see that little nub that the gasket sits around? That sort of locks into the hole on the box to hold the door in place. After opening and closing it about 100 times, it becomes easier. I worry that it may not close too well after a few or even a couple hundred more times. It may not stay closed at all and will be in need of repair. Anyone who has ever owned a butterfly knife will know exactly the kind of wear and tear I’m talking about. If you plan on bying one of these, my advice to you would be to only bring it out on special occasions. One more photo:
Once I was done playing around with the doser, I decided it was time to load 'er up and try 'er out. This was not as simple a task as I assumed. This thing was tighter than the ugly girl on prom night. I had to literally wedge my thumbnail between the halves and work it all the way around. It took me a good minute or so to do. Especially considering that I didn’t want to drop it. Once It was opened, I noticed greasy residue or film on the inside. It also had a mildly unpleasant odor to it that could easily taint any snuff. I’m sure this is partially from the machines used in forming the pieces as well as the possibility of a little flux from any soldering that was done. I would have expected that something like this would be properly cleaned on the inside before it’s packed up and sold. Alas, it was not. The best way I found to take care of this was with some isopropyl alcohol with cotton balls and q-tips. I’m sure a mild liquid soap would have also done the trick. However you decide to clean this, make absolutely sure not to use kleenex, paper towels, or anything of the sort as they are mildly abrasive. Use a clean, lint free cloth that is 100% cotton. Overall, I’d say I’m very pleased with this purchase. However, this is not something I plan to use on a daily basis. For that, the snuff box in my first review is perfect.
Hey Poo-Diddy, speaking of my lead foot, I got a ticket for doing 82 in a 55 on I-88 today! I had to go and jinx myself, didn’t I? 0_o $95 could sure buy me a lot of snuff. Oh well. My last ticket was about 5 years ago. I guess I was due?
Nice review on your snuff box Satyr. As for the speeding ticket, that sucks, those State Troopers don’t seem to let anything slide either. Then again, their sole purpose is pretty much traffic enforcement.
@Satyre Excellent reviews My last one was 71 in a 55, $172 could have bought me a hell of a lot of stuff, feel lucky it was only $95 I asked the boyish female if I could pay the fine right there, and flashed a $50, but she declined my legal offering of a bribe
Sad part was it was on my b-day
Nice box Satyr. One thing you can keep in mind when you do get some scratches on it is to use a scotch-brite pad on it. I had that problem when my ipod was new. It had the mirror finish on the back and showed any little scratch or hand smudge. So I just took a scotch-brite pad to it and gave it that bushed finish. Can’t see any scratches or smudges now. Just be sure to wipe the pad back & forth in same direction to get the true brushed look. As far as tickets, I’ve never even been pulled over for a warning or ever involved in an accident, knock on wood!!
Satyr thanks for the review on these two boxes. On the chome one is the hinge out of the way or does it get buried in snuff? Any more comments now that you’ve had some time with these boxes? Thanks.
