Just wanted to share a few shots of my “new” 160 years old snuff box, made in Ceylon (Sri Lanka) by an English Esq in 1849! I absolutely love this snuff box :o) http://www.flickr.com/photos/metania/sets/72157622183764864/

Very nice, Viking. It looks like the whole team? signed it too! I just won this one, I’d like to see if you know anything about this type: snuffbox on ebayIt was cheap enough for a gamble, I think.

Nice little find, Xander.

Xander> Actually the text says: “This box turned by Joseph Price Esq. of Jaffna. District Judge - from a piece of Vadatelpalle Wood cut in the Jungle at Victoria Estate Jaffna Ceylon 1849”. It now sits on my table, holding of course - Manjul :o) Ah - very nice! I remember seing this box when the listing was still active! Congratulations! My best shot is that this is a lady’s compound powder box, and probably from around 1910-20. Though it may indeed be for snuff. I have an Italian box with a mirrored lid, which is too small for being a compound.

If it looks like a Snuffbox and works well as a Snuffbox… Very nice find Viking.

Pants> which is what matters :o) Btw I have 17 or so snuff boxes up for auction on eBay. The Italian one is looking for a new home :o)

E

I’m watching one of them

Thanks Viking. I’ll let you know how well it works. It looks to have a concave bottom, which should prevent those last couple of pinches from hiding in corners. Its actually a gift for a special lady who has taken a liking to a few of my snuffs. Hopefully she does not read snuffhouse and ruin her own surprise.
