Recently i decided to take the plunge and purchased a Neti Pot or nose kettle as i like to call it, Hmm very interesting experience and like a lot of things in life it has turned out different than i thought it would. First of all it is great to get the snuff out of your nose before you go to bed and its easy to use but this has not been without its side effects. I have been using this for about a week and have noticed that now i have a very clean fresh nose my taste in snuff has changed and where i loved Wilsons snuff before i donāt like it as much now but Toque is so much better than it was with my old nose fabulous hit of nicotine lovely burn in the nose. I guess my nose was not working as well as it could have been thats all but it has certainly been unexpected and i will have to go back through my entire snuff collection with my new nose and see what other mischief this little device has caused, oh well its a hard life, hour upon hour of unsealing tins and snuffing the contents i think i shall need a lie down and a sandwich first to get me strength up. I would recommend one of these devices as it has definately added to my snuffing pleasure.
I would have to agree I donāt know how anyone can do snuff continuously without using a netti.
The first time i use a neti pot I was flushed with memories of getting water up my nose from the pool when i was a kid. I agree, It does wonders!
same here nightcap i hate the feeling while iām using it but the end effect is wonderful.
Anything for the snuff!!
What is it?? /me = lost haha
I concur, gents. The Neti Pot is a wonderful contraption.
So as you guys may know, Google is a wonderful invention. I had never heard of a Neti Pot before, but⦠well ⦠it sounds like a PITA. Do you get used to it??
itās weird at first but you do get used to it, i still donāt really care for the actual act of using it but it does do a good job once itās done. and whats a PITA?
PITA= pain in the ***ā¦nose in this case.
I got the saline mist bottle from Wal-Martzo, the junk that came in it gave me a headache. SO, I dumped it out and mixed my own saline solution: 2 cups water (16 ounces) + 1/4 teaspoons table salt + mix well = good saline solution. (this mix I got from a site, linked to on another thread) I washed out well with that - and āYESā - it does make a difference in what you can taste with your nose!!! Also, it is surprizing what just āblowingā leaves still in your nose - washing your nose and sinuses out is a good idea!!!
I finally bought a neti last Thursday. Actually, I bought a little kit which inlcuded the pot, a tub of salt and some zinc solution. The zinc is optional, but some science indicates that zinc in the mucosa will prevent colds and such. It also had a book and all who use would be wise to follow the instructions. I find that to avoid that āgetting dunked in he pool feelingā, you have to do three things. 1)You MUST use the salt. Make sure it is non-iodized and use the portion your neti recommends. If you use the finely ground neti salt, my pot calls for 1/4 teaspoon. If you use kosher salt, which has bigger crystals, use 1/2 a teaspoon. If you use fresh water the experience will not be pleasant. 2) The water must be lukewarm. Too cold or hot and again, you will not like it. 3) Make sure you keep your forehead down. Try to keep it as low as your chin. Experiment with the head position until it feels right. The water should run right out without going up to that uncomfortable place. Otherwise you will feel like you are up-side-down underwater. Also your tilt has to be good. I find that if I look up at the pot Iām tilted right. My biggest PITA regarding the neti is that it takes a few minutes to prepare the solution and run the water until it get warm enough. Then pouring the whole damn thing takes awhile. Kind of like when you have a really long pee and it just keeps coming. You start to get a little tired of waitng for it to finish and want to lean on something. Lastly, after using, I still get a bit of snuff out of the nose with a q-tip. I would advise cleaning your nose with conventional techniques as much as possible before and after the neti. A few tissues and q-tips do the job. It all sounds like a PITA but it is worth it. I love my new nose too! That feeling of openess and breathing free afterwards are better than any menthol snuff! While I made it sound like it takes a while, the whole process I just described actually takes less time then it took me to write all of the above. I wonāt snuff until the next day after the treatment. I do smoke one cigarette before bed after this though. Oddly enough, the cigarette tastes like chocolate or some odd thing! I suspect the zinc solution alters the taste. @ Big Al: some of my snuffs which I thought I was used to, are much harsher now too. I thought it was me, but you make me think it might be the neti. My Wilsons also seem boring now. I thought they might have just gotten too dried out.
Dam⦠I saw the title of this thread and I thought Michael Jackson had joined the forum.
HAHAHAHAHAHA @ Premuim Parrots I was thinking the same thing
Xander totally agree about the Wilsons it does seem very harsh and a little plain whereas the Toque i am now able to fully appreciate and the hit is incredible. An important point to mention is that although there are many different products available they are unlikely to be equal and ordinary salt will not be suitable, i have been using a NeilMed NasaFlow Neti Pot which includes 50 sachets of salt to get you started. I have also been using a Saltair inhaler for my Asthma which has also been brilliant, the salt this uses is 20 million years old and is medically certified and this product also helps the lungs to expel any foreign particles including snuff. After a week of using these two products i am very impressed with the results and i am not that easy to please being rather cynical with age i generally find the claims people make about their products are an absolute crock of shite just to con you out of a few conkers but in this case the claims are justified. The Saltair inhaler is useful for all breathing problems including Chest infections, Bronchitis, Emphysema Asthma COPD etc if any of you guys suffer from any of these you might like to Google it and find out more about it
The salt packets I use are Sodium Chloride and Sodium Bicarbonate, which is essentially Natron. Iām washing my sinuses out with ancient egyptian embalming materialsā¦
