My first Scmalzler

B

I’ve just partaken of my first Schmalzler, Poschl Schmalzler ‘D’ Dopplearmoa. Wow, like snorting a very rich banana fruitcake!? Very coarse and moist. I followed the advice of other forum members and gave my nose a little pinch post sniff to keep it from falling out and it seems to have done the trick. Long lasting scent, slightly cloying but overall very nice.

S

Many of the schmalzlers are rather fruity, although not all of them. I personally prefer the Bernard’s ones, simply because the Pöschls, though delicious, tend to clog me instantly.

B

I got a bit of nose run, but wasnt toooooo bad. I will be on the bernards next. I do love the picture of the happy looking German snuffing fellow on the little blue and red bag!

S

Welcome to the club. Schmalzler’s are wonderful. I like Poschl because of their fruitiness. I didn’t think I would at first but they are great. Try the Perlesreuter and the Sudfruct. Bernard’s is my favorite though, it’s true. But you simply must try their non-schmalzlers as well. Cardinal and Virgine are sublime.

P

I love em all. I enjoy the coarseness.

S

Mmmmm… Sudfrucht. If Homer Simpson was a snuffer, he’d be all over the Sudfrucht lol In fact, I’m gonna have some right now.

K

I have yet to be blessed by the grace of a schmalzler. -Kidnapper

G

Im thinking of ordering some of these kinds of snuffs in the future, never had a chance to try em and its nice to see that nicrush has sooo much snuff. Last time I ordered they had hardly anything, its been some time, now they are freaking huge.

K

OK that does it. I just ordered some Bernards Klostermischung.

P

k5btp, Klostermischung is my favourite schmalzler. Heavenly stuff!

S

Yes, I second that - Klostermischung is wonderful. Harder to keep in the nose than any others though.

A

I’m out of Schmalzers now and miss them terribly with my stout. Brasil Feinst is my favourite.

B

Im amazed at the amount I have to use, but once your nose warms it through its delicious

T

I thought I read that Klostermishung was not a “true” schmalzer?

C

I think it’s a Halb-Schmalzler.

S

that would explain the differences between it and the other schmalzlers.

K

I think I am officially addicted. Klostermischung is almost gone and I have 100g of Poschl Schmalzler D on the way!

S

Klostermischung is wonderful snuff really. i have hundreds of grams of schmalzlers in my snuff cache.

P

another plus here for bernard over poschl

D

I love Bernards, Zweifacher when I want a lil menthol. Aecht Altbayerischer Schmalzler the rest of the time. I love it so much I try not to use it all the time so it retains its effect on me lol. I always have a Schmalzer with me when Im at the movies too, I love it. Kick back and watch a flick. Keeps my movies snacks to a min too,

S

@ Filek: at the end of the day I have to say no. Bernards is, imo, superior to Sternecker. Not that sternecker isn’t great - it’s just too subtle for my tastes. how’s that for audacity? hahaha!

N

Bernards is the best, but those little (read expensive) 10 gram tap boxes are a killer. It doesn’t take but a day or two to go through one. That is why I use more Poschl. 100 gram bags are necessary if you are going to use it like a schmalzler should be used. Sternecker is good too, but I’m not too fond of their Staubinger.

S

Every rose has its thorn, as they say, and that is Bernard’s thorn.

X

Indeed. I would like to see Bernard’s also sold in 100g bags.

E

I have Brasil Feinst in 100g heat sealed foil bags… It seemed like a good idea to stock up when it looked like they were going out of business a few years ago. Glad I did even if they didn’t.

X

You mean you have 5 of the 20g foil bags? Or was it sold in a big bag before?

E

No, I have 9 or 10 of the big 100g bags/pouches. They haven’t been available for a couple of years now. The snuff keeps perfectly in them. I’ll take a pic shortly. I still have a few of the foil wrapped 20g cubes as well

X

Wow. They should really reintroduce those. It would make economic sense for the customer and the company. I would rather buy one of those than 10 disposable tap boxes, which are - no doubt, costly to produce. Well, I wouldn’t dispose of all of them. I would keep a few on hand to refill until I replace them with a proper schmalzler bottle.

E

The best of it was how cheap they were - just €3 or €4 each. I do indeed keep a proper Schmalzler bottle topped up from one of them.
