My first online order (snuff newbie), looking for a few sampling recommendations (please!)

discovered the world of snuff in October, only have had access to Poschl’s Gletscher Prise and Israeli stuff. I really like the Prise and in general when i have had a chance to dip into someone else’s staff I like a menthol flavor. I like mint but not a fan of sweet. I also love the Poschl’s packaging with the small flip top for super easy use. As I am in Israel I plan to order 6-10 different types at the same time as shipping is expensive so one order will be best for my pocket book. Also I will order from Mr Snuff, so any recommendations are very much appreciated. Thank you, David

It’s impossible to give objective recommendations because there are so many snuffs, so you will just get lists of what people like themselves which are as much use to you as just picking at random. If you like one particular snuff, explore the range that that company produces. What we like is not much use to you, so experiment with as wide a range as possible. If you are looking for menthol types, most of the companies produce them and they all have their fans - and detractors.

I recently got into snuff as well. One I would recommend is McChrystals Original and Genuine… Mentholated with Eucalyptus… I find it it very refreshing.

Order one of each type of snuff and see what your liking and take it from there here is a list of the different types. If I left any out guys let me know Latakia Medicated Rappee Schmalzer Scotch SP Toast

Im new to it as well,i read all reviews i could on the net and mainly this site.i was pleased by all my choices so you cant go all that wrong.the best bit is when it lands through your door.

@snuffman Who makes the strongest Menthol snuff? thread should give you some choices http://snuffhouse.org/discussion/comment/195759/#Comment\_195759 Your top five ESSENTIAL snuffs…http://snuffhouse.org/discussion/5431/your-top-five-essential-snuffs/p1 Top Five Menthol/Mint Snuffs.http://snuffhouse.org/discussion/3546/top-five-mentholmint-snuffs/p1 Every nose is different so to recommend what you want to spend your money on I suggest SNUFF times infinity.

@basement-shaman…another job well done!

Poschl cola definitely try it

Wilson’s of Sharrow and toque are two brands that are hard to go wrong with and offer many interesting flavors. I’m sure if you look at them you’ll find some that interest you. Toque has some very interesting (and IMHO excellent) takes on toasts and Wilson’s offers many SPs that set the bar for the scented variety of SP. As you read the discussions, especially what’s in your nose and all the personal favorites threads you’ll find a lot of snuffs making multiple appearances. While every nose is different, there’s a good chance you’ll like those snuffs too.

Samuel Gawith’s Kendal Brown Original and their Peppermint Dark are great- both coarse and moist and a welcome change from the more common finer-ground snuffs, but as you will often hear here, buy them in the 25 gram tins- the 10g boxes don’t keep them fresh, moist or fully scented. I can’t stress enough how much I like a few of the Fribourg and Treyers’(especially Old Paris and Santo Domingo, but I digress), but I can recommend that you research their scents and pick up one or two that sound good to you. As others say here, think about what styles you are drawn to, then look into which examples of those styles sound good and try at least one in each category. Also, it can be good to be adventurous and try some out of plain curiosity. I’m may be rambling a bit at this point, anyways I prefer to try lots and lots, make some educated guesses, then to just see what I like. At any rate have fun!

An impossibe question to answer precisely, as others have said. For me, I found the best was in ordering a range from as many different makers as possible. Flavor was a secondary, or terciary consideration. Get at least one from each: Wilsons of Sharrow, Gawith Hoggarth, Samuel Gawith, McChrystal’s, Toque, de Kralingse, Pöschl, Bernard, Fribourg & Treyer, Dholakia (and contracted Indian brands) and Leonard Dingler. After that come back and talk to us. We have LOTS to say about each and are more helpful at putting together your second order than your first. My first order was about $20 worth of snuff, my next was about $70. I had several in between those figures thereafter for a year or so. Then I bought insane quantities to try as much as possible, and to stockpile as much as I could before a nasty law pertaining to mail order passed in this country. Sorry to ramble, but the point is variety is your friend and youprobably want to spend the first year of your life as a snufftaker trying as many different things as you can. There will be plenty of time to settle into a routine later.

Great Information from everyone on this there will probably never be an agreed upon top five but if you ask for a top 50 then we could get a few people to agree :slight_smile: and be sure to start a separate savings account because once you get started you just end up ordering more and more and just when you thought you tried alot out and found some great snuff you place another order to find more more great snuff. May the snuff be with you

Hey SNUFFMAN, I sure would like to get my hands on some off that Israeli snuff!

Thank you, great information from a very nice group! I have found a few places here where I have been able to get a few of Poschl’s and Wilson’s and like them both, have a few more places to goto and then will place my first mail order based on the feedback above. I have has several requests for Israeli snuff, I will see what I can do but will do my best to assist, more to follow soon…

Good luck with your order @snuffman. If you find what you ordered to your liking chances are you will be hooked. Try out as many different types and flavors as you can and you will find find out what you really like. I have only been snuffing for a couple months and am still learning new stuff every day and getting into a nice routine of snuffing. In this hot weather I find SP’s to be nice and even though I like menthols I think they will get more use in cooler weather. Enjoy the journey.

just go on your gut. Save for about three snuffs I’ve enjoyed almost all the snuffs I’ve tried. Some way more then others but seriousily there are a lot of great snuffs, and the only way to find the ones that are truely awesome for you is to put them in your nose.

I have yet to find a bad snuff. I’ve found a number of them I don’t like, but even then they were good snuffs.

And if you order one and you find out you don’t like it place it up for trade and try something else cuz chances are someone else loves it

I find that if there is a snuff I don’t care for initially, the next time I will have changed my mind… definitely broadening horizons … Or reviewing my addictions … who knows, it is all good.
