My cold turkey experience...

A week ago I was admitted to the hospital with bleeding ulcers. The attack came on suddenly. I awoke that day with some queasiness and after a half hour awake I was spewing up an awful bloody mess. By the time I was admitted I hurled twice more and lost a considerable quantity of blood. I was stabilized and put on a clear diet for two days and then I was discharged from the hospital. I am eating solid foods again, but am still a bit anemic. I took a full unit of blood in transfusion and declined a second one, though I probably needed it. Of course I had to stop any use of tobacco and to add insult to injury I am not allowed any caffeinated beverages. Alcohol is also out of the question. Once my ulcers are healed up I will be able to partake very moderately in my favorite vices. Using any kind of chew or dip may be beyond what’s allowed altogether. I WANT A PINCH SO BAD I COULD SCREAM. I will however maintain this nicotine fast for another couple of weeks. Damn it. The withdrawal from caffeine was the worst. I was used to at least two or three cups of strong coffee or tea and eliminating this all at once produced physical withdrawal symptoms - sever headache, neck ache, irritability, and depression. I am mostly over that now and have been recuperating at my mother’s house in San Diego for the past week. I am gaining strength and my color is less anemic every day. So folks, this is what is going on with me. I hope it never happens to you.

I’m very sorry to hear about your illness, stitch, but glad to hear that you’re making a good recovery. Welcome back to the forum, buddy.

Ouch, man! (huge understatement.) Last time I had a major medical cataclysm, the Nurses were sticking nicotine patches on me right and left. This was probably to prevent them from being physically attacked. (I don’t respond well to unanswered cravings.) You might try some gentle negotiations with your Doctors about taking a few pinches. They’re probably a bit in the dark about Snuff. Chew or smoke definitely cause major upswings in Stomach acidity, but I haven’t noticed anything much with taking it nasally. If they give you Wellbutrin, however, avoid it like the plague. It’s nasty stuff! Just glad you’re on the mend!

Hope you feel better soon Stitch, man that sounds awful. Thank goodness you weren’t stuck overseas when this happened.

@ stitch Cheese and Pipes, man! Hang in there, we need you.

Good good recovery man.

Damn it is right. Please give your mother a gift. Get well soon!

Man Stitch, that doesn’t sound very pleasant. Hope you recover quickly and can again partake in your vices.

Get well soon!

Get well Stitch ! I’d go bonkers without my vitamin N.

Thanks everyone for your good wishes. I am gaining strength steadily. Still working on getting a property in the foothills around san diego. Yesterday I did a lot of driving and while tired, I am still here. If you don’t tell my doctor or my mom I’ll admit I took a few pinches to no ill effect. In fact it was fabulous. My first pinch was some toque champagne. Took some cool mint from QWS too which was very very nice. I appreciate snuff so much more after a little vacation from it. Thanks again all. To those who want snuff burgers, I will resume sending those out when I get back to Phoenix. Just remind me and whisper me your address info. I can’t do that until I line up a place to live. The contract I reviewed yesterday had a problem with the legal description of the property. Hopefully that will get fixed today by the bank. If not, it’s back to square one. If I get the place I will find a way to post some photos. It’s near a lake that produced a large mouth bass of more than 26 pounds.

Throwing up blood is bad enough, but having to give up coffee and nicotine must have been hell on earth. Wishing you a quick recovery, snuffbrother.

Glad to hear that things are falling back into the right places! I think Doctors often get things wrong about Tobacco and it’s effects. Cigs or Snus can really irritate the hell out of my Stomach, but Snuff doesn’t seem to do anything negative. Nicotine fits, however, make me feel like I’ve inhaled Krakatoa! They’re spot on with the Coffee/Tea/OJ/Tomato products stuff, though. Pero is a nice alternative to Coffee. Peppermint Tea is another. It actually soothes your digestive tract. Keep feeling better and don’t put yourself under too much stress, man!

I had to stop stop using snuff for a week because of a procedure done on my nose to stop some life-long nosebleeds I’d had…so I feel for you, stitch, as far as vomiting blood/unable to use snuff, in a round-about way, but again it was only for a week or so. I wish you the best.

Hope you get feeling better man.

Hope you’re ok Stitch that sounds nasty. Take it steady. Stefan

Hey Stitch, relly sorry to hear you were sick and great newsd that you are getting better, my prayers and thoughts are with you.
