Mull of Oa

Well I decided to try some Mull of Oa… Is this really a nasal snuff? It has the same grind and moist texture of Copenhagen snuff/dip. Thanks, Ryan

never tried Black Rappee have ya? No foo foo powdery snuff here

After getting use to it, I often prefer the course moist snuffs. I’ve been meaning to try Mull of Oa, I’m excited to know it is one of those. I imagined it being a dry fine powder like a toast.

Never had an Artisan snuff that was fine or dry. Just as I like it. In fact I have some MoO thats about 4 months old and it is great,

Thanks for the quick replies! I have to say after being a toast user for such long time it’s a bit of an unusual feeling, it’s like snorting sand granules. After I took a large pinch in each nostril, half of it just sprinkled out of my nose like salt from a shaker. The scent is good. very similar to Copenhagen black, but it’s a smokier scent with a touch of "oak"iness. I’ll keep at it and see if I can get used to it. Any tips on how to take this more effectively?

@Ryan Stick with it. You’ll be lovin’ it soon.

I had to teach myself to take course moist snuffs. I had the same trouble as you. What I began doing was just dumping a pile out into my non-dominant palm and taking a pinch between my index finger and thump. I take the whole pinch up to my nose and insert the pinch into my nose, sealing it in with my thumb. This keeps it from falling out. While keeping my thump covering my nostril and the snuff still sitting on my thumb, I start to inhale a deep breath and pull my thumb away from my nostril to allow the air to flow into my nostril taking the snuff with it. If needed, I sometimes plug my other nostril while I do this. I move my thumb in a quick open and closing fashion until it is all gone; usually about five times. The feeling in your nose after taking such snuff is very different from the scotches, but you’ll get used to it. Just let it sit there and breathe lightly and the sensation will go away in a few seconds. I hope this helps. See the post about “plugging”, the technique I describe is similar to that.

@lunecat Thats OK. Don’t much care for the powdery snuffs. The reason I do not use much Toque. Great flavour but too fine. Prefer Princes, Black Rappee, S. Domingo, K. Brown, Elmo’s, etc.

Elmo’s Reserve is course? Man, I passed it and Mull of Oa up because I thought they were going to be much like a toast.

@Ryan As with most dark coarse moist snuff I employ the use of a spoon. This MoO is quite smokey I like mixing it with a plain American Scotch. Although it is great on it’s own.

Elmo’s is not really that coarse. Medium I suppose but quite nice and fluffy. One of the better offerings from SG. MoO is just perfect for me. Not as coarse as Bl. Rappee/ London Brn. which are the coarsest grinds I have tried.

Thank you for this. This is how I take my snuff, so at least I know my technique is correct. I appreciate everyone’s contributions. I guess I’ll just have to keep at it and see if I can adjust to the coarser nose feel I get. Thanks again!

I ve just tried mull of oa and it’s a wonderfull sensation, for those who know the Laphroaig whiskey it will do 200% for them ! I m just wondering when you take a lot of mull of oa there is no chance to get alcohol into bloodstream ? It’s a concern for people who are a lot on the road and would like to have your advice about it.
Thank you.

Any alcohol that is possibly still in the snuff would not be enough to move your blood alcohol level.
