The green snuffbox listed now does have a slide to serve as a tap box - I recently bought one.
Yes, it should. Those Rococo snuffboxes are great. The snuff will dry out in them though, so only pack enough snuff for the day.
does the snuff dry out a lot in the rococo metal spin tin?
I have no experience with those. I use old 10g Toque tins.
i would use toque tins too, but there’s always something flaking off from around the threads–i don’t know if it’s metal or some kind of coating, but i dont want it in my snuff
It’s just metal on metal contact, I get that too. I’d imagine that it would happen with any metal screwtop container.
I use these: https://www.container-family.com/index.php?main\\_page=product\\_info&products\\_id=28 Make sure you open and close them a few times before putting snuff in them. First few times they are hard to open and snuff goes flying.
@psicko I’ll have to try those. I keep seeing mention of them on these forums. I have a few of the Dholakia 8? Gram plastic containers that I use. They seem to seal well. I had some FUBAR Grunt survive the wash in one.
I think the flaking is from some kind of coating on the Toque tins. You dont’ get that from just regular metal on metal contact – look at the F&T HDT tins, for instance–does that happen with them? Does it happen when you screw a hose onto a fixture ?
@pinchegato I’ve never had HDT, so I can’t comment on those tins. Brass is a different metal entirely. Just buy some plastic tubs if it concerns you that much. It doesn’t bother me in the least. Toque tins come with most of my snuff orders at no extra charge and they seal well. Who’s to say that a plastic container you buy would be manufactured from food grade materials? You could have chemicals leaching into your snuff. Just because you can’t see it, doesn’t mean that it isn’t there. Don’t sweat the small stuff.
Good point about it being a different type of metal, and good point about the plastic containers. Who knows if any of it is safe. Probably none of the steel is even ideal, since it could contain cadmimum and things like that. If it doesn’t bother you, it doesn’t bother you. I do like the toque tins aside from that issue I have with them.
@ubiquitous- I mentioned them in a previous thread I started about snuff boxes and such.
I have a dozen or so for the different snuffs I use. They work quite well and are tightly sealed. And so far they have not leaked in my pockets, when I want to take some snuff with me.
The Toque tins are aluminum and if you use it a lot there will be grey dust that builds up from friction. When I noticed this happening I just wiped it of well and apply a light coat of carnuba wax. This works great. I always have a Touqe tin on me and refill as needed and maybe once a month add some wax to the threads. These are very nice tins IMO.
The plastic boxes work great. They also take spray paint very well .I painted a lime green one silver and it looks new after 4 yrs of use.The slide eventually wears out but it a good value for a box. The metal turn tin works good to but I only use them for dry snuff.
I am thinking of buying one of these and doing a decoupage project with it. That is adding a paper image and covering it in a laquer/varnish.
The Plastic boxes do in deed work well ! But they have one weakness ! The Slider tabs can break ! a preventative measure that I use is to sand or scrape the surface between them and put a drop of Plastic Repair Material in that space ! Epoxy also works and you may want to mask off any surface you don’t want Shemegma or Spuge and then just snap it back in ! Piece of cake !..O ya it’s easier to do before they break ,But you can break a new one taking it apart take care !
I went without a good box for so long after I ordered the crap “wilsons” one from MrSnuff and never tried this Rococo box, mostly because the description on Mr.Snuff leaves it all to the imagination. Screwtops are OK but you cant beat the convenience/ functionality of a tap box on the go.
The rococo is a nice tite box. Same design basically as the old snuffhouse.org boxes, and the slide lid does look to be improved, I hope it is at least.
@icepick They are alright now. The slide needs to be cleaned out every day or so because snuff gets compacted into the track and prevents it from closing completely. It still functions fine, but it bothers me. I just use a toothpick to clear it out. I may just end up glueing the damn thing shut.
@Ubiquitous I don’t know how you or anyone can live without a slide, opening the big lid 50 times a day, exposing your whole ration of snuff to the elements, sticking your dirty fingers in the the snuff all day.
@Icepick Me and many others live by the pinch. It allows prewarming, greater control, including tactile feedback on density and hydration level prior to snuffing. I only ever tap or pour when the snuffbox gets down to a level where pinching is no longer practical. Even then, most times I pour through the lid. I don’t buy snuffs that come in tap boxes, or oily snuffs that are too fine to pinch.
I only tap out coarse or Germanic style snuffs. Everything else gets pinched unless my fingers are dirty.
@50ft_trad A sterling defense to be sure, I myself appreciate the pinch, but literally any time Im not seated and relaxed I can’t be faffed.
