Mr. Snuff

S

What the hell’s going on with Samuel Gawith and you? I’ve been waiting months to order from you. But your not having any SG on the shelf has stopped me. Sure, i suppose I could order from another online company. But after standing by and watching you and Tom struggle and what not, I try to keep my loyalties to my poor, fellow, no-longer-free americans. Please tell me this agony will end soon, by gum!

C

I think he’s trying to get the 25g tubs of SG.

B

I can’t/wont speak for Dave, but my experience dealing with SG was the most frustrating/annoying experience I’ve ever had with a supplier. I’ve had a small business of some kind for about the last 30 years. In all those years, dealing with many hundreds of suppliers, SG was the worst. These people could care less whether they sell product or not. Tom

R

I remember visiting their stand at last year´s Intertabac. The friendly SG rep just continued to watch the hall dome, despite me greeting him and he didn´t make a single response. That was quite bizarre. I mean, they went there to do business, and after all, I work in tobacco wholesales (well, we don´t import, so it was pure personal interest, but he couldn´t know that). I don´t care too much for SG anymore. Maybe I´ll retry the one or other snuff if available in decent containers, but they´re clearly the last in line for me.

A

I think their snuff is crap anyway.

N

Gave my Scotch Black away - nasty stuff.

T

Irish D Lite was not bad.

E

I like Irish D Lite too. But it’s very plain & simple and would probably be hard to ‘screw up’ for them. I’ve definitaely seen a decline in quality with their pipe tobaccos in recent years, and I know that alot of pipe tobacco sellers have had the kinds of problems to which Tom was referring.

B

Yep, That’s probably why their 1792 flake pipe tobacco is hard to find in the US based web shops.

E

Yeah, all of their pipe tobacco is really hard to find now days. And when it arrives, it’s gone in no time.

W

I was a patron of SG’s weed for years, really liked their pipe tobacco and was happy to buy from such an old and iconic company. Recently my supplier told me that they could no longer get baccy from them. So, I had to hunt around for a replacement and found 4noggins. Way better tobacco. Way better. The Lord works in strange and mysterious ways.

E

That’s really saying something too, wildwilliam. One of these days, I’ll try their houseblends you were telling me about.

S

Listen to all the SG pooh poohs! lol

R

i hated the SG cherry snuff… i gave it away…

P

I love SG St. James Flake pipe tobacco, but I’ve learned to snatch up a pound or so whenever it’s available, because it so rarely is. They have very good products, but a serious problem with the management of their distribution network.

I

saucy_jack _“Listen to all the SG pooh poohs! lol”_Yes SG, please listen!

S

@iggy: so are you saying I’m an idiot or that SG sucks? lol

L

Emailed SG from the uk a few times recently but no reply. Love their black coffee but have to be very carefull because of the tap box drying out problems. Only people that seem to have it nice and fresh is snuff.me.uk.

N

@saucy_jack: I think he’s trying to say SG needs to get their shit together, I’m down to my last pound of 1792 over here! And the only people who have it in stock is in the UK and they overcharge bigtime, 45 pounds for a 250g box that costs 25 US across the pond, and the stuffs made in the UK you’d think it would be cheaper wouldn’t you?

S

@n9inchnails: yes, i know. you’re both quite right. i have quite a bit of SG “cellared” so the pipe end I’m not worried about. But damn I need more of their snuff. They are weird businessmen, I won’t deny it. i emailed them once and they practically called Tom a liar. But living in a decaying society doesn’t help matters, either.

A

I emailed them some time ago about some bulk orders and they were very helpful guess they were in a good mood. anyway, i think SG make some of the finest snuffs avaiable.

K

@n9inchnails: Tax, here the only thing the government can come up with to disuade people from doing things they don’t want people doing is to make it more expensive, dickheads. I think I’m going to try ordering from Synjeco in Switzerland and if that doesn’t work I have a friend who always seems to going to the continent so I’ll get him to pick me up a pound or two. @ SG fans in the US: Hmmm, I might pop out to one of my many local tobacconists tomorrow and get myself a tin of Squadron Leader. [Evil Laugh]

C

If you guys are that hard up for SG, just order from Snuff.me.uk, they sell drums. Or order from Snuff Store UK, although their customer service is pretty shoddy as of late, IMHO.

L

@cstokes4. Allways get my SG from snuff.me.uk, but cant find any mention of drums on their site. How much do they charge for 1/2 pound ?

X

Its at the top of the SG page as I recall. You have to use a drop down menu to pick.

L

@Xander. Thanks. Found it OK

C

Looks good Dave, are you getting any of the new Wilsons Whisky in?

T

Get some UMA, Swastik, and Arora snuffs, and I’ll be ordering.

E

@Dave: Are those Gawith twists 50g? Apologies if you’ve already answered about this before. Or does anyone else happen to know? Thanks.

A

I just received a mail from SG , and they said me they have discontinued selling the moist variatys in plastic dispensers So our complaints were heard.

E

OK. Thanks Dave. Mark

N

Dave, my order arrived today thank you so much for all of your efforts. To everyone else the majority of my order was Wilson’s and all of them are as fresh as the ones I purchased direct from Wilson’s a few months back on the web special also the McChrystal’s and Dholakia are very fresh and moist as well. Do yourself a favor and get some of this current inventory Mr. Snuff has in stock you won’t be sorry.

B

@ap: That’s very good news indeed !

A

Excellent news indeed. Hope to get the whole SG range tinned.

W

Brilliant news re the plastic dispensers. Can’t wait to see the whole range in vacuum sealed tins, there are a lot of SG snuffs I would like to try but won’t due to the dispensers. Stefan

X

Good job, Dave! I’m quite thrilled as I’m sure other members are. This is a huge step by both you and Sam Gawith in the right direction! I am a little confused though. I see you have both Scotch and Scotch Black listed. As far as I knew “Scotch” was no longer made but SP Scotch (not a moist snuff) and Scotch Black still were. You have Peppermint Dark’s picture where Scotch Black is listed.

X

Also you have Lavender spelled wrong.

K

@Mr. Snuff Just got my last order in today. Thanks Everything looks great.

W

That’s brilliant news Dave you have yourself a new customer! Stefan

N

Great score Dave, i just ordered the lot (except LB which I just got in the mail today)

X

Don’t be too hasty Dave! There was a very dark rappee by the name of “Scotch” and Ermtony and I split the last known tin in existance. Perhaps its back again? The SG website has more than one omission. Its similar to Scotch Black anyway but you may want to sample your stock before you sell a rappee as an SP or vice versa!

N

** Good News ** Have you guys seen the new Wilson’s bulk snuff options at Mr. Snuff? Select Wilsons>> Bulk>> 260G or 450G and then from the drop down menu select your desired flavor. This is just the ticket for me, I loved the fresh snuff received from the Wilson’s web special several months ago but what a hassle if you live in the US. I did a shopping cart comparison at Wilson’s direct and with Dave’s site and Mr. Snuff is just as good of a bargain and hassle free. The 6-7 tins I ordered from him last week arrived in 4 business days to Texas. Next up a 260g half drum of Grand Cairo and one Crumbs of Comfort.

B

I’d like to see fresh NTSU Black. I wonder how fresh his NTSU Menthol…
