I ordered two of these a couple of months back and both have broken, the sliding lid got loose and then too loose to seal the box … I actually had a bit of plastic when I took a pinch which I guess is from the slider mechanism? I know these are not to pricey an item, but in general is this unusual, would you expect them to last more than a few months of daily use ? I threw one and glued the end up on the second
I have one I’ve used almost daily for over a year. I have a couple more for back up if it breaks. The only problem I’ve noticed is the hinge tends to collect fine snuff particles and gets tight. Tight enough I feel the need to clean it to prevent breakage. Having said that I rarely use the sliding side bit.
I’ve broken a fair few of these in my time! An issue is that coarser snuffs will get stuck in the groove in which the slider runs, and then when you try and close the slider completely, the lugs on it break off in collision with the snuff in the groove. The only answer I’ve got to this is a toothpick to clear the snuff out regularly, a bit less heavy-handedness, and some patience (I broke a couple because in sheer annoyance at not being able to close the slider completely, I rammed it shut and broke it - can’t blame the box for that and more’s the pity!) The ones that I’ve managed to keep intact I’ve been more than happy with.
The sliding opening seems to be a weak point. I’ve had a couple break there. Good while they last, though.
I actually super glued the slider on one of mine cause it was loose. Other than that all of mine are holding up quite well. Both sizes are nice too, some days I prefer the Snuffhouse box and others I go for the Rococo box.
My problem with these boxes is that they are too small. The Mr.snuff box is too short and the Rococo box is too shallow. If they made the Rococo box with the same depth as the Mr.Snuff box it would be the perfect size.
I only use oldfashioned snuff boxes (see my profile picture for one of mine) and for special snuff I have a silver box. They were made more then 100 years ago and very sustainable for everyday use. Ok, they are more expensive to buy, but use them daily, and with antique you can always sell it later and even make a profit. Or leave them to your kids when you pass away so they can remember their “snuffing grandpa”…
don’t see the snuffhouse box anymore. is it gone? not the 3" mrsnuff box
