I have literally been snuffing for less than a week but I started on Hedges which I really like. I bought some Wilsons Best SP and whilst I love the smell and flavour I’m finding it’s very easy to get it on the back of my throat. I am not snorting at all, at least I don’t think I am. I did take the plunge earlier and took the somewhat counter-intuitive advice mentioned elsewhere here to take a large pinch. This I did and it seemed to help. Any more tips?

Try taking a pinch, bring it to a nostril, block it with your thumb and inhale through the other nostril.

Breathe in so that your lungs are mostly full of air first. That way when you take a sniff you’re using less lung power and the snuff shouldn’t go as far back. Sharp but short sniffs is what works for me.

A few of us have found Best SP difficult to take compared to the other WoS SP options. Have a go at Tom Buck (or Queens Extra Strong, which is identical), SP100 and Gold Label - you might find them easier.

Will do thanks, I have some SP100 and also some viking blond on the way.

I found the same difficulty with Lundy Foot and found that scrunching my nose as if I were smelling something unpleasant restricts airflow enough to keep it from passing directly to my throat. I imagine it might look funny to outside observers, but it’s worked wonderfully so far. Just figured this out a few minutes ago, actually :D.

I really dig the SP 100, the tin I had smelled a bit of coconut and woodshop. The Best SP is also one of my favs. I started with the SPs, had the same problem as you. I just learned from a lot of the same advice others have given already. Also watched some guy on youtube (can’t remeber his name, think he is Canadian if anyone else knows him) who does reviews and noticed how he snuffed, that helped me from going Scarface on the finer snuffs and also helped enjoy the scent more. Wish I was better at describing his style, but I keep deleting what I wrote because of the way it reads.

Keep at it and understand that like anything else – our noses are subject to daily changes. Just as our stomach may be fine with spicy food 6 out of 7 days yet revolt against us on day 7, our noses and ability to “tolerate” certain snuffs is subject to flux.

Also gros and fin make a good mix.

Im pretty sure the SP100 is the same as the Best SP but with a finer grind (if it’s not the quite the same flavours as Best then it is near-as-damn it) so if you like the SP100 you should get some Best as that is easier to take. I have both in bulk and I can vouch for this!

Best SP is a tricksy bugger too so be careful. Breathing in before taking a pinch seems to help.

Thanks, so I’m finding. I am loving the taste, smell and the hit seems just right for me so I’m persevering with it. I find that definitely sniffing from the ‘front’ of my nose is best. I’m experimenting with the back of hand versus finger pinch method, and four times out of five I manage to avoid the throat or sinus hit but it does get me occasionally. One method I have tried with some success with Best SP, is to press my finger into my snuff container, and get an amount onto the end of my index finger and sniff it off there. Obviously best done indoors, and solo!
