M

I bought the walnut round, can’t wait for it to arrive.

S

They are nice. I bought one a while back, and it is very snug and of perfect size.

M

Yes, i bought one last time he had them available and I like it so much I’m getting another…

O

FYI: There are various quantities of each type shown. Ranging from a few to a dozen. @MO- yes, lacewood round are still available. If anyone wants one you can whisper me or contact me at the email address in first post. Just be sure to give me your email address where I can send you a paypal invoice… or let me know if you need to pay by usps money order (snail mail method, not preferred, but if need be I want to accomodate)

M

I just received my walnut round box. Another fine piece of work from oneforetheroad.I prefer the triple coat plyeurethane sealer he used on the outside to the method he used on his first run of boxes. It gives the box a better feel. I did notice however that where my oak box (original purchase) seems to have been created from a single piece of wood as the grain on the lid and box match up perfectly this is not the case on the walnut box, but could simply be the nature of walnut wood grain. The walnut box is slightly larger than the oak box which enhances its value to me as no two are exactly the same. The box is beautiful and well worth the price he charges for them. I proudly carry mine daily.

Y

I got my paduak round today, thanks Onefortheroad. Mine was made from one piece it appears, this lid is tight as heck, I can’t wait to get this broken in and full of some F&T HDT. Thanks again Onefortheroad

T

Prices are at the top of page!

Y

After sitting in my pocket for a while, my lid now slides perfectly, it was just cold, silly me. Was quite nice taking pinches of HDT from a proper box, instead of them plastic smashboxes, I’l have to get more when I have some extra $ sitting around.

O

@ausmike–over the atlantic? not the route I’d take from chicago to australia… you must be using mapquest.

B

nice chimp

T

Or maybe florescent lighting?

V

Ehm - Kendal Green? Ha ha - and what kind of breakfast is that? It looks a bit like a huge piece of FISH? Ha ha I hope it’s really just a sandwich. :o))) I have one of Patrick’s boxes too - the lacewood round - very very nice box indeed. Perfect to take to work!

J

My oak and lacewood snuffboxes arrived this morning, and I’m very pleased with them. Beautiful pieces of work, Patrick, and a perfect size. Shipping from the US by USPS was a lot quicker than I was expecting as well: less than two weeks. Cheers, Jim

O

Glad you like them Jim. And it’s good news that they arrived safely as there are a few others in the UK waiting for theirs also. Also, THANK YOU TO EVERYONE that have purchased my snuffboxes. And thank you for all the great compliments. I hope you all enjoy them and get to use them for a very long time. It’s been very rewarding for me to create them and see them shipped all over the world.

M

that padauk round is one beautiful snuff box.

O

After a bit of a delay I’ve been busy making snuffboxes again. I’ve updated the “what’s available” photo at the beginning of this thread (second picture). Thanks again to everyone that’s purchased these from me. Here’s a picture of some of the new walnut and padauk snuff boxes.

E

Very tempting!

E

Like I haven’t got enough snuff boxes anyway? Onefortheroad - does the original price still hold good?

O

@ermtony, yes the price is still $14.

W

Padouk Round is what I’m after, ta.

K

I’ve had a few of these for several months now (from Snuffstore) and they are great. The lids still fit very snugly and despite being in my pocket all the time and getting dropped/trodden on they still look as new. Well, apart from one which I handed to someone and they then proceeded to squeeze the **** out of it for some reason. So if anyone is thinking of getting a couple just do it!

L

Snuff & the boxes are a little ‘moreish’ everytime I take a snuff delivery my wife says ‘Oh no, not more snuff’ and I say ‘I won’t be ordering any more for a while as I have loads now’ a few days later i’m back on the net ordering more which is crazy because I have enough to literally keep me going for months…whats wrong with me??? lol Those boxes are lovely, its so hard to come by decent snuff boxes these days that don’t cost an arm and a leg.

O

@Snufecker- you’re welcome, enjoy! @Lazarus- Thanks for the compliment. I’ve gone through the same thing with my wife’s looks when I order tons of snuffs and stuff. I’ve been putting off an order to snuffstore just to put some distance between orders. To make things worse I’ve been getting car parts too. @kunugaa- glad you like your snuff boxes from snuffstore. Just wondering if you figured out why this person squeezed your snuffbox. I’m guessing alcohol was involved? Why don’t people think?

V

I am kind of puzzled about what people say they find on Ebay? I have quite a collection of boxes bought on Ebay, and I always talk to the seller first to clarify if the box goes for the collection or into my pocket. I have bought many silver snuff boxes on Ebay which are perfectly snuff tight and certainly not “beat up” looking. Of course a silver box is more expensive than a plastic or wooden box. But that can hardly come as a surprise, since you pay for the craftmanship as well as the material used. I love snuff boxes and will go to great lentghs and high prices to get the right box, since the satisfaction of using a really good silver snuff box is amazing. And it is certainly not true that silver snuff boxes are worse than other materials. That is definitely a myth! I also love wooden boxes, and have one from “onefortheroad” that I sometimes use at work. But please don’t down the silver boxes! :o) Ciao, VIking.

V

Hi Patrick! I found your invoice, and sent you the payment. Cheers, Nicholas.

L

Mines on the way now…getting excited!

E

Likewise!

L

Mine hasn’t arrived yet, starting to get the cold sweats now! lol To be honest its probably best it hasn’t got here yet as I’m still trying to decide which snuff to ‘Baptise’ the box with! Its a big decision which i’d hate to rush! ;o)

D

I got mine in on Saturday if I remember correctly. Lovely boxes, they already have been put to use.

E

Mine also arrived on Saturday. Very nice indeed! One is currently empty. The other has Wilson’s Best Dark in it.

L

My box just arrived and its a cracker! Thanks very much Onefortheroad!!

L

Very dry Amanitamusc ;o) Onefortheroad I was just wondering how long does it take you on average to make one of your excellent boxes?

O

Too long. Honestly, I haven’t really pinned down an average yet. I bounce around doing this and that and typically work on several at a time. It’s hard to keep track of the time spent on a particular box.

A

Are you a wood worker by trade or did you just feel like making snuff boxes?

L

Amanitamusc - have you considered stand-up comedy? You are very funny…

A

My box arrived today - padauk round, absolutely superb in every way and will get a lot of use. If you are thinking about getting one you just can’t be dissapointed: the price and quality are exceptional

L

Glad to hear you like it snuffster - great aren’t they?

A

Just terrific, and the price makes it more of a gift than a purchase. It’s nice to have a box made by one of the members on such a small scale - makes them pretty unique. Are you a full time snuff box user now lazarus? How many do you have?

L

Yeah, I’m ashamed to admit the snuff has become a bit of a habit now and both my boxes are full up ready for use! I only have two boxes but as I said on my other thread I am possibly after another. The larger of my two boxes is full of McChrystals Mild Lemon, the smaller one (made by Onefortheroad) is full of Gawith Hoggarth Cinnamon. I’ve finished work at the hospital now waiting to start my next job so i’m sitting at home for the next 3 weeks and I find myself snuffing more frequently partly because I can and partly out of boredom. I find that because I only own two boxes its tricky deciding which snuff to keep in which box. I guess on an average day i’m snuffing between 15-20 times a day, sometimes more. If I’m in the pub all evening i’ll probably snuff at least 10-15 times that night but I always carry one of my wooden snuff boxes to the pub, it looks so cool on a wooden table next to a pint glass! As my snuffing progresses i’ve changed my mind about many snuffs which I had previously ‘written off’ through inexperience. One of my most hated snuffs was McChrystals Mild Lemon, I really had trouble with it…now its one of my firm favourites!!! In fact there aren’t any dry snuffs I can’t handle anymore and even prefer them to the moister ones now (never thought i’d type that!) which is also cool because I find if you put moist snuffs in a snuffbox and don’t use it up quickly the snuff will go dry in a matter of hours. If you fill the boxes with dry snuff in the first place it won’t spoil!

L

I might buy another box myself soon, trying to make up my mind…

S

Still have any padauk round? Let me know, because i want to order one. Just give me the paypal address, and ill get the money to you. Thanks alot ~douche master ken~!

O

Just wanted to post a picture with some of the new zebrawood and cherry round boxes that are available. The zebrawood don’t have inlays. I felt it took away from the natural beauty of the wood. Hopefully you can make out the wild endgrains in the photo.

L

Sorry Onefortheroad I’m ignorant…what do ‘inlays’ mean?

O

Inlays are objects or materials recessed into the wood. In this case thin strips of other wood, but you can inlay metals (silver or coins) or shells (abalone or mother of pearl) or just about anything. Similar to what you see in finer guitars and such.

L

What function do they serve?

O

These are also still available.

O

Lazarus- I suppose no function at all. Just something to look at. Adds color and design to an otherwise boring object.

T

Those sure look great onefortheroad, I might just have to get another one soon. The zebra wood is beautiful, looks just like one of my pool cues.

S

Just wanted to say I was amazed at these beautiful boxes and would love to order some! I love beautiful handicrafts and fine woodworking especially. The inlays are beautiful, really nice work! Hello to everyone!

P

I’ve ordered a ZEBRA STRIPE snuffbox from onefortheroad !! Just holding thumbs that my payment is successful. I’m not familiar with PAYPAL payments, just hope my bank knows what it’s all about. Living in a Third World country is terrible when it comes to this type of thing. But I’m a fixture here, cannot move away. Our exchange rate is so bad compared with other countries, one needs millions of rands if one wants to move overseas. And I’m also to old already. Regards to all

P

Hi Ladies & Gentlemen, would just like to inform you that, as from yesterday, I’m the proud owner of a Zebra Stripe snuffbox, manufactured by Patrick!! On the bottom it shows the initials “PJC”. Now, that’s either Patrick’s initials or he was clever enough to pick up my initials, which is also “PJC”. Whatever the case may be, I have a snuffbox with my initials on it. It’s filled with my favourite TOQUE Espresso and I will carry it with me where ever I go. Thanks Patrick, you’re a star

A

Congratulations Pieter, mine is constantly in my pocket and in actual fact I think I’m a bit infatuated and may marry it. PJC is Patrick’s initials but a nice coincidence!

O

LOL that’s great Pieter, what’s the odds

V

Snufecker! Thank you, and I too am happy for you, that you found a wooden box that you like. Most of the contemporary wooden boxes I have seen look clumsy and dull. But of course tastes differ. And thank God for that! Have another pinch Viking

B

I just ordered two more.

O

Here’s an updated photo of the snuffboxes that I have available. Sorry I’m out of the zebrawood and lacewood.

K

Lol, I was thinking of getting both a zebrawood and a lacewood. Oh well, that canarywood looks pretty nice. BTW, I must have been using the walnut one for 9 months or so now and it is still perfect. I have had it filled with Tom Buck since I got it and judging by the amount of empty TB tins I have lying around it has had an incredible amount of use. Also, I was in the pub a couple of weeks ago with two (possibly three) of your boxes and they did a couple of rounds of the table with plenty of oohs and ahhs. Nobody ever wants to try the snuff but at least they like the boxes.

B

I have the mahogany (filled with SP), pakauk (filled with Schmalzler), and the walnut (filled with Toque Espresso at the moment)

S

When will you have the zebrawood boxes again?

O

Can’t say for sure. Tried a new hardwood source today. Looked fantastic on their website but it turned out to be a very small operation. Basically a farmhouse with some storage sheds. They didn’t have any zebrawood or anything that caught my attention. At my usual source even someone that isn’t into woods like I am can’t help but walk down the aisles and let out some oohs and aahs. Oh well. So I can’t make any promises if/when I’ll have more zebrawood boxes. I did keep one for myself that I made back in June but I managed to lose it. For a while I thought I must have accidently sent it to someone…used, abused and with snuff in it but I don’t think that was the case since no one ever mentioned receiving a pre-loaded snuff box. On the plus side it does give me incentive to make more.

T

Well if you ever want madrone, manzanita or manzanita root, dogwood, maple, locust, apple, plum, cherry, pear, california buckeye or black walnut wood let me know. I’ve got those in abundance. I’ve got some great black walnut crotches that I’ve had set aside for a while with some great grain but they are quite big & could be cut down. Ive got some good oak burls out at the ranch. From the size of a basketball to the size of a VW Bug. I had some real nice black walnut burls but already sold those.

N

and when ever the wood is chosen, double compartment snuff boxes are and a.s.a.p!

P

I have one of the doubole compartment snuff boxes from onefortheroad. I was excited when I bought it, now I just can’t use it. It ruined every snuff I placed in there. For example, I thought carrying a menthol (mchrystal’s O&G) and a non menthol Wilson’s Best SP in the same box would make for the perfect road companion. But the 2 flavors just ended up contaminating each other with flavor. Inevitably, the top of the box would gather just enough snuff that when you slid it to one side to expose one flavor the top of the box which was covering the flavor you are about to snuff is directly over the other snuff. Traces of O&G would soon contaminate the SP and vice versa when opening and closing to get to the snuffs… A great idea, but in my opinion not technically viable, unless you like mixed flavors…

S

Patrick I’d like to get a zebrawood one and maybe a few others from you, please put me on your backlist. I’d also like spalted maple if you can get some.

X

I got my snuff box the other day. Top notch Patrick! I am sure I will be picking up more in the days to come. Cheers!

S

Wow, that’s a pretty one!

S

I’m hoping Patrick will get some of the original woods back. I’d like to buy a few boxes from him.

O

Some photos of what I have available right now.

O

And these…

O

And finally…

E

Get thee behind me!!! You have some more seriously nice boxes there. Must resist…

B

Hopefully, I will have Patrick’s awesome boxes available on NicotineRUsh.com fairly soon. Tom NicotineRush.com

O

FarleyFlavors, I’m curious, what happens when one of these goes through the wash. I mean, how bad is it? Warped? Cracked? Finish removed? All of the above?

M

Yeah, my walnut box tightened up on me quite a bit (actually it’s developing a little hairline crack on one end). I think I’m just going to take a bit of light sand paper to the edges of the lid and lube it up with bees wax. I’m curious though what did happen with the wash? OneForTheRoad, did you use bees wax to lube the latest Padauk box I got from you ? Maybe that would be a good way to seal the inside cavity, lid and edges. I’ll let you know.

O

The padauk wood is naturally very oily and one of the best woods for the purpose. They really feel like they’re on ball bearings sometimes. And no, there’s no wax involved. Also remember that the woods used to make the boxes, and the finished boxes, are stored at normal room temps. and at 50% humidity. I would advise trying to keep the box in this climate for a week or so and see if that makes a difference. All the woods have different characteristics, but all will be affected by temperature and humidity changes, some more than others. Some change very rapidly and some take a very long time to change. I mentioned to someone recently about a hickory box I have that is really loose normally but a few hours in the cold (out shoveling snow) and you’d be lucky to get it to open. Caution: using wax or sanding the edges is very risky and can very easily lead to unsatisfactory results. Believe me, I know. Haven’t heard from farleyflavors but would also like to know more about the washing incident. Can’t be good though. Would you wash your grand piano out in the driveway on a sunny day with a garden hose? Come to think of it people with nice pianos typically keep the room strictly in a certain temperature range and even have humidity control units inside the piano to keep the wood from expanding and contracting.

S

I just received two of onefortheroad’s snuffboxes today. The pictures don’t do these amazing boxes justice. They are tiny jewels, perfectly made, beautifully finished. The marquetry is superb. Absolutely beautiful work and a treasure to own. My wife likes them so much that I will be ordering more without interference LOL Thanks Patrick for these fantastic snuffboxes!

S

I agree with Snuffbox, just received 3 of them from Snuff Store and I’m very happy with them. Filled them with Rooster, Tom Buck and the new Blender’s Bundle. Might want more of these …

O

Glad to hear you like the snuffboxes. Happy snuffin’!

C

Hello there onefortheroad (Patrick?). I’m new to the site and just come across these grand looking snuffboxes, i’d be grateful if you could contact me with the selection currently available and of course how to pay. Thanking you. Kindest regards, collierboy

C

Thank you Patrick for your swift response, I’ii email you with all the information you require. Kindest regards, Collierboy

X

Just stumbled on this thread. Are any still available? Is the price still the same?

O

My inventory has been pretty much cleaned out. Here’s a pic of what I have right now. Should have new ones done in a couple weeks. Same price for now.

P

I ordered one of your boxes from nicotine rush recently. Now I have to convince my wife that these are in fact a necessity (and not just a luxury) so I can order some more. Great box.

O

Glad you like it Pfrat. Ways to convince your wife you need more snuff boxes: 1. Keep leaving big tins of snuff everywhere since they “don’t fit in your pocket”. (e.g. next to you on the church pew, right in front of the remote sensor on the TV, etc.) 2. Conveniently “forget” to grab your big tin of snuff, that didn’t fit in your pocket, and have to take time to go back for it. 3. Use an empty tin and fill with fake snuff (crushed dog food?). “Accidently” drop, break, spill the contents. Then say “oops, there goes a whole can of snuff, what a waste of money, can you help me clean this up?” 4. Say “this can of Rooster won’t fit in my pocket, can you carry it in your purse?” Then ask for it back every 15 minutes to take a pinch. In each case be sure to point out that it wouldn’t have happened if you had only been carrying a days supply of snuff in a convenient pocket snuff box Still going to be another week before new ones are ready.

B

You could just hire a fake doctor to tell her the only cure for your rare and horrid disease is to have lots of snuff boxs. She probably won’t buy it but the just in case she’s wrong will certainly kick in.

P

I think number 4 on onefortheroads list sounds like a winner (I’ll try the “horrid disease” option if that doesn’t work)

B

it’s best not to use the horrid disease option too much. You never know when you’ll need it. There are only so many times she’ll believe you. Then she’ll be like right you’ve got some horrid disease and you need antibiotic sure…

O

Ok, I’m starting to get some amount of inventory available. I know there’s been a long wait by those wanting the zebrawood. These are ready to go and there will be some more new stuff coming in a week or two. These are Padauk, Teak, Lacewood, Lyptus, and Zebrawood.

O

and

M

I’m a bullet kind of guy, but those are VERY nice! I wonder if there’s a way I could make one to have muiltiple compartments?

T

Yes, I’d definitely like a double compartment version of one of these too!

S

I think there are some boxes with multiple compartments but I feel sure I read somewhere on this forum that they suffer with the snuff crossing over due to the sliding lid.

O

I guess the question is how big you’d want the double compartment box to be. There’s a fine line on how small one would want each compartment to be, and that translates into how big the overall box would be. I do have a design for such a box and will try to get some made but it probably won’t be until April.

T

That sounds great, Patrick - I’ll definitely be making an order for one of those.

S

I bought some nice ‘pill boxes’ at a store called Five Below a couple of weekends ago. They are relatively small (a bit bigger than 10g Toque tins but smaller than the 25g tins), round, and have two compartments. There is no way for snuff to travel into the other compartment, as they are completely sealed off from each other. They were either a dollar or two for a dollar. They are made from a heavy plastic, so they won’t look as nice as Patrick’s boxes, but they are very convenient if you want to carry more than one snuff but don’t feel like carrying several boxes. Has anyone else seen these? If I get a chance, I’ll post pictures. They are definitely worth checking out. ~Snuffy

B

Patrick’s boxes are also now available at NicotineRush. Thanks Tom

S

One of the guys (Trout I think) said he tried a double box and it was no good because the scents mixed. I would personally stay with onefortheroad’s time proven one-snuff design.

P

I’ve already got a Zebra box from Patrick and now I’ve ordered 2 more, 1 Padauk and 1 Oak. Hope to have it soon. I also have a friend in Somerset, UK who often goes to auctions of old stuff. He promised to keep his eyes open for some old snuff boxes.

B

Just picked one of these up from Nicotene Rush the other day , it is a fine looking snuff box, my only problem is that the lid seems to slide a bit too easy and I am afraid of winding up with a pocket full of snuff. Is there a sure fire way to remedy this that anyone knows of?

B

You could try rubbing some solid beeswax on it should help.

B

Thanks for the suggestions guys, there are some excellent ideas there I will find one that works once I get home. It is a lovely box and I really want to use it regularly once the wood seasons a bit and stops adding scent to my snuffs.

X

Yeah, follwing up on the incident in the thread that Bigblue references, I did sort mine out without any drastic measures. I took a hot shower and left the box nearby in a small bathroom. I closed the door and left the fan off. I got the room nice and steamy. After my shower the box was much tighter. I did the same again the next day and it was like new. I guess it had just gotten dried out.

J

I’m glad I’m not the only one who snuffs in the bathroom tomorrow. All of mine are loose except the new zebra I got. I grabbed one because I know thy go fast.

B

Patrick, It was the Lacewood Box, very nice job by the way. I have used the Pieter technique with a very small bit of superglue spread around the 2 edges and it works beatifully now. I will definitely be getting a couple more of different styles in the near future. Well done!

S

I just received 3 more beautiful snuffboxes from Patrick! Beautiful workmanship, as usual! Thanks Patrick!

O

That’s great news. Glad they made it to you. I guess 2 weeks isn’t too bad to your neck of the woods. Enjoy!

O

quick update on what I have right now: padauk BWB lyptus PT teak WI

O

and: walnut 2LD mahogany BTR mahogany W

O

and finally: african mahogany SW

A

i received a zebra wood and a padauk last week !! Beatiful work !

T

I just got an African Mahogany box - using it now, in fact! My Zebra Wood box has a very loose lid, so I’m going to try Pieter’s superglue trick on it when I get some time.

B

@toffeenose: It works like a charm ! My zebra wood and my padauk were too loose and the superglue trick worked great. You can now buy superglue in a little tub with a brush which makes it really easy to apply.

T

Thanks, BradMajors!

J

I prefer the beeswax method myself. but it don’t matter since i lost my snuffbox… not a big loss though it wasn’t a PC just one i found at goodwill.

O

Are these still available?

A

At snuffgear.com. Pat used to sell them here when he started, he doesn’t post here anymore, last looked in in Feb.
