So I got some Hollandse Bolongaro snuff which I am quite enjoying, but I understand the the box that it comes in does not keep the snuff fresh for long periods of time. So I was wondering what would be the best way to store it? Right now I have it in the box that it came in, in a zip lock bag. Is this enough or should I store it in something else? Thanks in advance.
That’s enough. I have them all and I don’t even keep them in a bag. The taste/smell is as good as the where when I got them ( Some of them over a year ago ). Maybe a bit dryer - but I don’t care about that. I just keep all my snuff’s in a drawer in cupboard…
I keep it in the freezer in the bubble wrap envelope in which it was deliviered. Just started taking some Latakia out a week or two ago after being in the freezer for a year or more. It is still fresh and moist. I know that many say that freezing is not necessary… But it just seems to me as if moisture, in plant material, left at room temperature, for an extended period of time is a sure invitation to some sort of decomposition. Even if it is only a loss of flavor. Then again… my scientific background is in physics, not chemistry.
@howdydave: most snuffs contain a fair amount of salt which will prevent decomposition. Jaap Bes.
Well howdy Jaap!! I haven’t talked to you in ages! Is salt what you use to get the pH level right? That sort of makes snuff “tobacco sauerkraut” doesn’t it? ©¿Θ¬
@howdydave: We use ordinary kitchen salt, but it doesn’t influence the pH. Therefore you can use salammoniak or potash. And yes tobacco fermentation resembles fermentations like sauerkraut and silage. Jaap Bes.
Jaap sent you mesage via the website about ordering the 100 gram cantainers. thatks edm
@mustangii: Just back from a short holiday, I’ll answer you shortly.
