The online shop page says We regret to inform you that due to EU reglementation we have stopped selling snuff tobacco.
First of all - what EU regulation are we talking about? Second is it possible to buy the snuff at least in person when visiting The Mills? This really ruined my day as I was about to make an order …
I am from the netherlands and i see the same. it’s not possible to order online but it might bee in the molens itself. I hope @jaap can tell us what to do.
More bad news for the snuffing world However, does this mean they have stopped production, or are they still able to sell to vendors, and are just unable to sell direct to the public? If this is an EU issue, then what about Poschl and Bernards for example? I’m so glad I have got a few kilos of bulk stashed away
Thanks for all your kind words. We are talking about to things that make me decide to stop selling snuff. First the mills are sold to a new owner without any consultations of the crew who runs the mills and this means we are not certain about the future. I intended to go on and look how things should go.
Secondly I looked into the new EU regulations for tobacco:
Was it before this regulation became law in The Netherlands it was enough to fill out the forms about the poducts we make and the ingredients we use. Now we have to make determinations for example of the pH and % nicotin in every product. Also we have to give the exact tobacco composition of each product and also of all our used ingredients.
All these demands can fullfilled by commercial companies, but as we are a non profit organisation run by volunteers with the aim to preserve historical production methods we can not.
@snuffmiller This is a sad, sad day. My heart goes out to you and your people who were working so hard to keep history alive, yet were simply overcome with pencil-pushing requirements piled upon you by [insert pejorative].
This makes me very sad. Best of luck to you in your future endeavors.
I suppose we cannot circumvent it in some way - like e.g. sending donations for running the mills and then getting the snuff for free, which then technically would not be buying nor selling :D
Im sorry to say this, but here in the US we get the same kindof regulations. The FDA ruling! It is worldwide! Look at the NY ban on soft drinks, trying to tell us we use to much salt and so on. I can’t understand why unelected groups can do this without votes. They know how to take care of you more than yourself. I’m not a very smart person, but this really pisses me off. All I can say is Election time is coming. If Britain can do it, then we can do something! Sorry to get alittle politcal. We need to wake up or I guess we can just keep ignoring it and stock up on tobacco now while we can or until our affordable heath care that is going towards not being affordable tells us no more tobacco(ok to smoke pot) or you will get thrown in jail. I’m going now and shove more snuff up my nose.
Let me add my toast and condolences. It pushed me to make my 1st Mr Snuff order, unfortunately, probably the only one for Dutch Snuff. Brexit was good for snuff, However, I think it will be eventually be tough to get snuff sent to the USA, the USDA or some other government agency will see to that… :(
Didn’t someone also say the other day German snuff is endangered by EU regulations ?
