Molens de Kralingse stopped selling snuff????

M

The online shop page says We regret to inform you that due to EU reglementation we have stopped selling snuff tobacco.

First of all - what EU regulation are we talking about? Second is it possible to buy the snuff at least in person when visiting The Mills? This really ruined my day as I was about to make an order …

P

Hopefully @jaap will reply. That would suck. I know the mills were for sale not sure what the status of that was. That sucks if he did stop selling.

M

I am from the netherlands and i see the same. it’s not possible to order online but it might bee in the molens itself. I hope @jaap can tell us what to do.

S

@snuffmiller

M

I just an email from Jaap, that due to EU regulations they are unable to sell the snuff online nor in the mills… :((

M

Oh my god an other fantastic snuff producer killed by regulations and local county. Makes me so mad !!!

S

Oh no… Was just about to make a new order. But can’t reach the website…
Pffff… Stupid regulations!!! I don’t swear a lot, but now…

P

So, does this regulation apply to all the other EU brands too?

5

More bad news for the snuffing world However, does this mean they have stopped production, or are they still able to sell to vendors, and are just unable to sell direct to the public? If this is an EU issue, then what about Poschl and Bernards for example? I’m so glad I have got a few kilos of bulk stashed away

H

Doesn’t seem right to me. Any EU thing affecting Molens would be affecting every snuff maker in Europe.

S

Thanks for all your kind words. We are talking about to things that make me decide to stop selling snuff. First the mills are sold to a new owner without any consultations of the crew who runs the mills and this means we are not certain about the future. I intended to go on and look how things should go.

Secondly I looked into the new EU regulations for tobacco:

http://ec.europa.eu/health/tobacco/docs/dir\\_201440\\_nl.pdf

Was it before this regulation became law in The Netherlands it was enough to fill out the forms about the poducts we make and the ingredients we use. Now we have to make determinations for example of the pH and % nicotin in every product. Also we have to give the exact tobacco composition of each product and also of all our used ingredients.

All these demands can fullfilled by commercial companies, but as we are a non profit organisation run by volunteers with the aim to preserve historical production methods we can not.

So I decided to stop selling snuff all together.

Jaap Bes.

S

@snuffmiller This is a sad, sad day.  My heart goes out to you and your people who were working so hard to keep history alive, yet were simply overcome with pencil-pushing requirements piled upon you by [insert pejorative].

This makes me very sad.  Best of luck to you in your future endeavors.

F

Well I think it is absolutely bloody outrageous. What we gonna do about it?

M

This so sad and annoying at the same time. :((

I suppose we cannot circumvent it in some way - like e.g. sending donations for running the mills and then getting the snuff for free, which then technically would not be buying nor selling :D

S

@MichaelP: The Dutch tobacco law forbid to give tobacco away for free !

Jaap Bes.

L

Im sorry to say this, but here in the US we get the same kindof regulations. The FDA ruling! It is worldwide! Look at the NY ban on soft drinks, trying to tell us we use to much salt and so on. I can’t understand why unelected groups can do this without votes. They know how to take care of you more than yourself. I’m not a very smart person, but this really pisses me off. All I can say is Election time is coming. If Britain can do it, then we can do something! Sorry to get alittle politcal. We need to wake up or I guess we can just keep ignoring it and stock up on tobacco now while we can or until our affordable heath care that is going towards not being affordable tells us no more tobacco(ok to smoke pot) or you will get thrown in jail. I’m going now and shove more snuff up my nose.

T

I am buying tobacco seeds for myself.

S

Sorry Jaap.  I wish they all would just leave you and the mills alone!

1

…darn it, i shoulda stocked up on some bulk of some favourites…!!

I want to Thank You  Jaap and Crew, Ster and Lellie too. Hope the Windmills

don’t idle wonderin’ what to do, so again, a big thanks to you…!!

please join me in a toast to Jaap Bes and Molens de Kralingse

M

Let me add  my toast and  condolences. It pushed me to make my 1st Mr Snuff order, unfortunately, probably the only one for Dutch Snuff. Brexit was good for snuff, However, I think it will be eventually be tough to get snuff sent to the USA, the USDA or some other government agency will see to that…   :(

Didn’t someone also say the other day German snuff is endangered by EU regulations ?

N

This is terrible news, I wish I hadn’t put off on ordering. Is there any chance of a final sale to clear out your remaining inventory or is it all gone already?

S

Maybe some commercial operations an pick up the mantle ??? Cough cough toque

H

This is all so sad. It’s definitely a global push, with Big Tobacco profiting immensely. I’m just happy that I started saving and cellaring long ago when people were joking around about a potential “tobaccopolypse”. Where do we go from here?

T

I’m going to become good friends with toque economy bags.

J

@tlag77, for real!

@snuffmiller Thank you for your explanation, and you truly have my sympathies and understanding for the way you have been treated. Thank you for keeping the mill producing fine snuffs for as long as you did, and please pass on my thanks and condolences to your colleagues. I hope this doesn’t mean we’ll be losing you as part of this community Jaap. You have been a wonderful member of Snuffhouse, and long may that continue. I hope also that the torch can be passed on in some way to keep the snuffs alive, even if it cannot benefit from natural energy or your personal mastery. It is a sad time, and I fear there will be more sad times ahead. Thanks again to Jaap and all at Molens for their service to the world of snuff. My very best wishes to all.

M

@snuffmiller Thanks to you and your team for the beautiful work you’ve done. Sorry this it how it goes, but respect for your decision.

M

@snuffmiller Thank you for all the amazing snuffs you produced, perfect customers service and everything!

D

Sooo sad!!! Bloody rules!!! I updated my blog about the mills: https://dutchpipesmoker.wordpress.com/2015/10/31/sniff-that-snuff/ Jaap, thanks for the snuff!!!

M

It’s a bloody shame !! This nice historical piece of the Netherlands gone by a stupid law ! @snuffmiller ik hoop dat julie er toch uitkomen met de nieuwe eignaar en dat de molens in ieder geval in jullie liefdevolle handen blijven.

T

@Snuff miller sorry to hear that. Big government is trying to shut down our vape industry here in the USA.

M

I never had a chance to try Molens de Kralingse. This isn’t going to affect poschl will it? Sheesh it is hard enough to find snuff here in the states as I only know of two shops that cost an arm and a leg to get some. So the snuff probably stays on the shelf for a long time before a sale is made.

Sorry

N

Your government isnt trying to shut down the vape industry, Big Tobacco is trying to shut down the vape industry through your government

W

Those are very bad news

I’ve been delaying to restock my bulk Chocomint Latakia and now is too late :((

Thanks to Jaap & the rest of the volunteers over the mills for this years of wonderful snuffs.

T

@Wulfensteinsson I think Mr.Snuff still has some, as of yesterday anyway.

W

@tlag77 Great! I’ll go asap to get some. Thanks for the tip! :-bd

S

Thanks for all those kind words :x

M

I am as upset as any of you to hear that De Kralingse is going out of production. It is such nonsense for snuff to be included in these onerous regulations. The EU claims that scientific evidence is considered when making these rulings. This is patently NOT true. As far as I know there is no evidence of harm to health caused by nasal snuff. But this is not the first time we have seen this (the ban on snus is a good example), and it will not be the last.

The only bit of good news is that Jaap has agreed to do one final run for us. We are in the process of putting together an order. It would be helpful to get an idea of what snuffhouse members would like so we can put together a sensible order, you guys can order it fresh and get it into long term storage.

Please email Leo (wholesale@mrsnuff.com) with comments. This will give him an idea of the more popular flavors.

Maybe I will post this in a new thread to give it a bit more prominence.

Dave

P

Governments Suck !      All of them ! ~X(

M

That’s fantastic @MrSnuff I’m lucky to have a lot of kralinger snuff but I know there will be enough animo to make a nice last order !

B

Hey he’s written down the details on all the snuffs. Which means there has to be someone with the money and time to make something out of this.

B

also how much money would it take for Jaap to be able to fullfill the new legal requirements? Might not be too much if we put our resources together. Just some thoughts.

S

Get as much of it as you can @Mr.Snuff - especially A/P!

Guys, I’ve just placed an order at snuff.me.uk for 8 of Jaap’s creations. They have the old style tubs for 0.50 GBP and the newer tubs for 1.50 GBP. Don’t know how long they’ve been sat on the shelf as it were, but at least there’s another brief window of opportunity for some of you, depending on location and shipping restrictions of course. If you go there, be sure to sample some of the Jaxons line too. SP Premium and English Toffee are two of my favourites, and I’ve added a tin of Choc Tangerine to try this time as well. Have at it folks!

Quick update: I got my Molens snuffs through from snuff.me.uk today, and the older tubs have certainly dried out somewhat - so much so that some of the tubs looked half full due to the extent of the shrinkage. However, for 50 pence a tub I’m more than happy to have to rehydrate prior to use. I haven’t opened the newer tubs yet, and obviously they’re not transparent, but they “sound” dry when shaken. Again, at 1.50 per tub, I’ll live with that. I usually have to rehydrate snuffs when I’m part way through them anyway, so the fact that I need to hydrate the first half as well as the second half makes little difference to me.
