Does any one know, if de Kralengse snuff can be purchased in bigger containers, like 50-100 grams? And if affirmative - where? Thanks guys!
I don’t know if they sell it in larger containers, but you can make bulk orders from them. I plan on putting one in once I have my snus stockpile built up. I remember that when I looked, it was way cheaper than buying from vendors. I want a giant tub of the Chococremesnuif. That stuff is delicious.
@viking NO. I tried to purchase 300g of Choco and 200g of Chococreame direct from Jaap. He could not send bulks so he sent me a ton of his plastic dispensers with about 12.5g in each. I dumped them into a container I like using from Bed Bath and Beyond. It is the OXO with a single button on top and is air tight. Comes in many sizes. So, in essence I made my own bulks…
The problems are the Dutch tax and custom regulations. Selling to tobacconists outside The Netherlands have other regulations than selling to private persons. When selling to private persons in and outside The Netherlands and also to tobacconists in The Netherlands we have to put a tax seal on every unit we sell. The fixed price is on the seal and about two fifth of the price are taxes and duties. We have to buy these seals in units of 96. So you can imagine what we have to invest before we can sell one can of 100 g or 250 g to a private person. Jaap Bes.
Mars Cigars sells them from bulk (generally in smashboxes) You might order with them. They might also just send you 50 smashboxes full. Don’t know, might be good to ask. A couple of these I could fantasize about getting in bulk. Prins Regent and Macuba for starters.
Xander, the thing is that when ordering from a non-EU country the snuff might very likely get busted in customs, with fees and the rest as a result! :o(
Snuffmiller - That’s really sad! Because f ex in Denmark, we have no snuff sellers, and so my only option is to order over the net. And receiving 20 plastic containers is not an attractive idea. Aww how sad, I really like your snuff a lot :o(
Snuffmiller - I don’t understand that? What is the difference between putting 10 seals on one 100g can and putting one seal on 10x 10g cans? Same tax label right?
If it’s like cigarettes, it could be quite different. RYO cigarette tobacco, individual packs and cartons don’t get the same tax stamp on all of them. There could be a seperate one for each weight level.
shikitohno, You are quit right, there are even regulations how to glue the stamps on the boxes! If there is enough interest in bulk I will look into the matter of investment in tax stamps. Anyone who is really interested in buying bulk can contact me: info@snuifmolens.nl I’ll keep you posted about the situation. Jaap Bes.
@viking Not a big deal if you want the bulk. The caps come off quickly and then you can recycle the containers. That is what I did and I am happy with Jaap’s good service and great snuff.
around here we can only recycle plastic grades 1&2. My de Kralingse containers are 5s. I’d be happy to send them back to Jaap to refill if he wants them :0)
Mars sells there’s in larger smashboxes if you get more than 5g. I would not be surprised if they would order you a 200 or 300g bag if you want.
Jarhog wrote: "I would not be surprised if they would order you a 200 or 300g bag if you want. " That is exactly my thought. It looks like a willing vender could supply you with a bulk order. And it looks like a bulk order just might make a vender willing. Can’t hurt to ask.
Bigbuyer> It will take more than even this wonderful snuff to convert me from using a snuff box to use a plastic container :o) he he he…
@viking I dump all of them into my OXO air tight containers and pinch from there, right out of the bulk!
^^^^BB, now thats what I call a snuff box
@snifs That is my bulk boxes. The large on can hold about 200 grams or so and the smaller one around 100 grams. They never leave the house. They do refill smash boxes and snuff boxes. I do pinch from them too. Something about having a bulk. The snuff stays better I think.
It certainly does keep better in bulk though I’d be wary of pinching often from bulk as some moisture and flavour will be lost every time you open the container. I only ever open my bulk containers to fill a snuff box. That way the snuff will stay good for years.
Good to know because I have been wondering how fresh bulk snuff would stay as the bulk container went down. I know on tins that 80% fill is minimum to have it stay fresh.
I have very god experience with bulk containers too. I sometimes pinch from them in the morning to decide which snuff to take that day. And I’m positively surprised how fresh the snuff can be even after years. Little tins and boxes seem to fizzle out the aroma after a short while.
@viking I agree 100%
Also it’s a nice feeling to know, that you have “snuff enuff” he he
Hello Maciej, I found something about Nessing snuff in a Statistical yearbook of 1863 about the Netherlands. It says that a tobaccofactory of J. Nessing in Amsterdam which produces andouilles (small cylindrical carrots) had the years 1859 and1860 only partly work for its 43 labourers. I’ll have a look if I can find something about the manufacturing of andouilles. Is there a deadline for the questions? I am still looking for them. Kindest regards, Jaap Bes.
Hello Maciej, For this snuff was used “good smelling” Virginia leaves and it was sauced in different ways, there are nine different receipes. The one I chose is the first type. The leaves are sauced and put together in “karotten” of about 2 kg. Left to mature for at least 6 month and after that chopped fine. This year I’ll prepare the last Karotten soo I expect to have the snuff at the end of 2010. After that I’ll have a look to prepare "Fine Rotterdam St. Omerkarotten also called Doppelmops. Kindest regards, Jaap Bes. P.S. By the way how is the quiz progressing?
Just read on the Mill’s twitter that Doppelmops is going to be produced. Very exited! You people have to know that “rolmops” is the Dutch word for rolled up fish with unions and piccles. I don’t know a translation to english for “doppelmops”. And I guess this snuff won’t have to do anything with fish, maybe it was a fisherman’s snuff?
@Salmiak: No translation for Doppelmops, the only connexion with “rolmops” is that the sauce contains wine vinegar. Jaap Bes.
@snuffmiller Jaap, what does the vinegar do to the pH? Does it make so low as to slow down the nic hit? Not that I care. I’d happily do your snuffs if they had little nicotine. They are truly artisan snuffs. I’m in love with FCV. I like to alternate both of them with my usual intake of HDT to get the proper balance
@chefdaniel: Alkaline conditions favour the nicotine uptake. Vinegar lowers the pH of course, but to what extend I don’t know. I never checked the pH of the tobacco. The stable/ ammoniak scent however originats from alkaline conditions resulting from the addition of chalk or other alkaline substances. Jaap Bes.
