My almost full cafe 11 now resides in the trash (moment of silence). Found out these artisan snuffs need refrigeration a little too late. Other than Abraxas and Sir Walter Scott, are there any others I should be storing cold?

M

going to check y Cafe 11 tin. De Kralingse suggests refrigeration.

Old Mill should also be refrigerated. The Butternut and Toast and Jelly have real Amish hand churned butter in them so they’ll get hard when chilled but will loosen up as they get warmer.

Thank you. Just got a tin of DK Prins Regent. To the fridge it goes. Have to try the Old Mill. A lot of good reviews.

This thread sounds like the name of a terrible restaurant!

I’ve been taking my chances storing them in a cool dark place. As for Butternut Toast, I’m storing it in my snuffboxes.

@chefdaniel I received my first order of Old Mill yesterday… super fast delivery, great snuff, thank you. I will post some thoughts after I spend some time with them, but I know that I’ll be ordering more Dreamcatcher for sure… the ultimate relaxation snuff. What’s the shelf life for a snuff that needs refrigerated and what’s the best way to go through a tin. I pocketed a small tin from the fridge this morning, plan to enjoy it on and off at work today, and then return it to the fridge late this afternoon. Is this okay? @Wolf13 Sorry to hear about your Café 11.

@Jim‌ Thank you for your kind comments, very much appreciated. Dreamcatcher, for me, is the ultimate snuff nightcap. Great, deep sleep with technicolor dreams and I wake up ready to go. I put my tins into mason jars, then into the fridge, grouping similar snuffs to avoid cross-scent migration. Menthol and mint are particularly guilty of illicit travel that way. I take out a tin, use a clean spoon to fill a snuff box and put the tin back in the fridge. It warms up in a few minutes in my pocket and is ready to pinch or spoon pretty quickly. Your way should work fine for small tins, but I’d reconsider for larger tins. I’ve had a few snuffs stored that way for just over a year. They might have lasted longer, but I ended up enjoying them instead of finding out :)) I have zero restraint in that department. When I like a snuff it has a habit of mysteriously disappearing. Cheers

Wilson’s of Sharrow also recommend that snuff should be kept in a refrigerator. http://sharrowmills-online.com/information/faqs.html

Guess my thinking has been all wrong. I just figured since cigars are kept in a humidor, tobacco must do well with that type of environment. I always kept it sealed inside a small plastic container at room temp. Live and learn. Thanks for all the input!

Hello I have these Abraxas Dragun and Firedragun, and they are amazing!! Do you think they should be kept in fridge. Both are quite dry snuffs, so?.. I have stored Viking Dark and menthol same place in room temp as my pipes for about 3 months now and they both taste and smell fresh. is molding a problem with these dry snuffs? Thanks

O

I have an opened tin of Dragun for a little over a year stored at room temperature and it’s still good, I even think it has hardly lost any of it’s aroma. Parts of my collection of toasts I rarely use are even older and still good, I think snuff generally keeps well if it’s very dry and unscented. It probably helps that I don’t pinch directly from the storage containers anymore since my tin of F&T Santo Domingo got moldy after I was only half done with it.

J

Thank you otherwheres. I had sir William Scotts that got moldy but it is quite moist snuff.

I had 300g of Black Motia in my cupboard for three years, and it’s still quite good. However, it did end up in the trash can on accident. As for Dragun, Dholokia White, White Elephant . . . I tend to place them somewhere cool, dark, and without direct contact with natural;sunlight, and/or light.
