Mixing Menthols and Scotches

D

Just curious if anyone has ever tried this. Looking at concoctions from locally available snuffs and debating a mixture of RR Mills Plain + WOS Menthol Plus. Ken

B

I thought about ordering some menthol crystals just for this purpose.

I

Starr Scotch has none of the BBQ flavoring and mixes well with everything. Adds a nice kick too!

P

I’ve mixed American Scotches with other snuffs (a little Garrett Sweet & Mild mixed into some Toque Chocolate is very good), but I haven’t mixed them with menthols yet.

D

Tried some navy sweet plus WOS menthol plus by just putting both on the back of my hand and it was pretty good. The experiment continues. Ken

I have a snuffbox dedicated to this concept. 20 parts Rooster to 1 part Wilson’s SM (You may want more menthol). The 20:1 removes the BBQ edge and “puffiness” from Rooster. Good stuff.

A

There used to be a high toast called wit and wisdom, I would love Toque to do one similar.

T

He could call it, pomp and circumstance.

R

O & G and rooster 50-50 is a pretty good mix.

_

I do not know if this is getting off the subject but try 2\\3 Bernards Cardinal with 1\\3 Hedges L260. Let mature for a few weeks and enjoy!

J

Yes! “Let mature for a few weeks” is in the Snuff For Dummies guide as well.

A

Pomp and circumstance would be a great name for a Toque menthol/toast.

T

Yeah, it’s a cool sounding name.

B

or he could call it wit and wisdom. Or wisdom and wit.

D

Well I gotta say, the menthol + scotch mix works really well. Had some navy sweet in a snuff box and it was running on the low side so added in a dash of WOS Menthol Plus, well got damn, I think I like this. Ken

R

being a newbie i find scotch to be a little hard to sniff for me; i guess my sniffing technique is not the best yet. funny i have no problem sniffing something like toque natural toast but the scotches always end up in my throat… anyway today i did a 40% CC scotch 60% Gawith apricot and not only that i loved it didn’t hit my throat either… this was my first menthol scotch try; by the way is anybody here getting apricot out of that snuff??? all i get is menthol with a hint of mmm hay maybe? hayish grassish kinda smellish lol… i like it tho… Ra.

A

With the Scoth/toast type snuffs you have to change your technique a bit. The simplest way I find to avoid getting it where it shouldn’t be is just to breathe in extremely gently as opposed to a sharp, definite sniff, with the finger and thumb pincj just slightly inserted into the nostril.

D

RR Mills plain + WOS Menthol Plus is a hit now as well. I did about a 3 to 1 mix in favor of RR Mills. Great hit, the menthol smoothes out the PN drip if it occurs. Ken

N

I made a small batch of 2 parts Rooster to 1 part Hedges and it turned out very well.

_

Just mixd up 1/4 WoS Honey Menthol to 3/4 Honey Bee, Will try in 2 weeks.

R

Bruton and Toque Menthol 50-50 is nice

D

Lately, although not a scotch menthol mix persay, I have been mixing Tube Rose with Toque Peppermint, typically a 3:1 or 2:1 ratio, respectively. I find it very enjoyable and a nice compliment. Ken

M

I just tried mixing 75% Superior Scotch with 25% McChrystal’s Sturco on the back of my hand. It was very good I must say. The Superior cut down the menthol blast without taking away from the nasal passage clearing effect. The scent is great as well.

S

I’m yet to be convinced of a mentholated toast/scotch. Maybe a should do what I never do and try some mixing. The idea of it just sounds wrong to me.

W

This had me wary too but I threw together 4 parts Bruton to 1 part Singletons Super Menthol in a smash box and the results were nice. It is easier to take than the straight Bruton plus it leaves a nice cooling tingle.

I

Isn’t Checkerberry essentially a medicated American Scotch?

S

Well I take it back. I did the mix. 3 parts scotch. Tops mild in this case. 1 part Toque menthol. Surprisingly delightful. Live and learn eh.

S

Isn’t Checkerberry essentially a medicated American Scotch?

No. Checkerberry is not a scotch.

X

Agree. Not a scotch. Medicated is a generic term. Its got no menthol, but has a cooling - clearing effect because mint and wintergreen have some similar qualities. so it could be considered medicated by a broad definition. I do, but some may just consider it “flavored”. Anyway, its not a scotch. A scotch is a specific type of snuff. A mentholated scotch is theoretically possible but Checkerberry is too coarse and moist to be in the same class as scotches.
