For the most part I have found it better to take snuff as it comes from the manufacturers.
Each one has had care and time put into the creation of it’s profile.
When mixing them I often find that the scent and flavour layers and becomes intolerable.
I have been trying to re create Swisher’s Checkerberry dry snuff as being in the Uk it is not so easy to order it.
Can you share your thoughts with me on how to achieve the wintergreen green flavour and profile of Swisher’s Checkerberry?
A good plain base from which to work from and how to subdue or tame the Methyl Salicylate? Using existing snuff.
Thanks in advance
Hey there,
Sorry I can’t help you with your request, since I don’t know the Swisher’s Checkerberry, however I wish you a warm welcome to Snuff House! I hope you will find what you are looking for!
I have mixed a few different Snuffs, FT Sando Domingo with Benard Jubiläums for one, but most except that one does not involve medicated fresh Snuff since I have a hard time with them. Raw tabacco Snuffs I find easier to mix with scented Snuffs without getting the overload you mentioned. Snuffs from India are also great ones to mix around. If you’re looking for a base, Pöschl Schmalzler are good in the low nicotine department as are the different Blonde types. Stronger bases could be Taxi, Viking or Toasts. You can also browse through the many English vendors and look for unscented Snuffs as a base. Anyhow, I’m not sure I’ve helped.
Good day and good Snuff to you.
Ps. I have recently placed an order at a artisan snuff maker in Germany. When I browsed through the selection, I remembered seen a wintergreen snuff. Here’s the Link
Pöschl JBR Green has wintergreen flavour.
The Poschl green is a nice one but it differs somehow from the American Checkerberry. I was thinking that maybe the American stuff starts with a sweet base? So after the wintergreen has melted away then it melts into a sweetness not present in the green Poschl? Still working on it. Maybe the green Poschl is a good starting point and then something sweet. Thanks!
Haha thank you kindly. A good day and a good snuff to you too. What a lovely community. I shall look into your suggestions. Any suggestion is welcome nice to be part of the community!
Maybe something like Toque Bubblegum and the Poschl JBR green is the one to try next. I will let you know when i get somewhere close. We will see.
Since Checkerberry actually falls under moist oral snuff category, it very well might contain some sweetener and other flavourants (like menthol, eucalyptol etc).
Some flavours aren’t that great on their own, but blends nicely together and turn more enjoyable, when combined. I can see this being a case with methyl salicylate.
If you are about to play with wintergreen oil or pure methyl salicylate, keep in mind that it is toxic and don’t add more than 29 mg per 1 gram product.

Thanks. I think methyl salicylate has a similar action to aspirin. Although reported to be 50 or more times stronger than aspirin. I think i might just have to use a VPN or something and find a supplier. I tried looking up the patent but its more confusing than not. I think you are right though about the added something for oral snuff as my attempts havent produced anything as good as the product itself. Close but not as good as the original. Thanks !
