I’ve been thinking about a proper mixed grill for quite some time now and today I’ve made this mix. I’m sure some of you snuff connoisseurs would like to crucify me for this. I’ve put together: TOQUE: W&H, T&M, Peppermint, Menthol, Natural, Original, Raspberry, Cherry, Toffee, Peanutbutter, Vanilla, Espresso, Pomegranate, Grapefruit, St Clements, Chocolate and Absinthe DHOLAKIA: Kamal, Manjul, Ganga, Swiss Chocolate, Sparrow Green and Sparrow Cool WILSONS Burgundy, Crumbs of Comfort, Irish HDT 22, and Prime Minister SAMUEL GAWITH Jockey Club and Black Coffe POSCHL Gletscher Prise, Lowen Prise, Robby’s Mint, Gawith Apricot and President GAWITH HOGGARTH Kendal Brown and Tia Maria MOLENS Latakia 1860 JAXON’S cafe Creme, BERNARDS Zwiefacher, Kloster Mischung, Jubiläums 275 Jahre and Alba Persischer BESPOKE Christma Joy MAGNET Peach TAXI Spearmint and McCHRYSTALS O&G. That is 47 different snuffs in one 25gram Toque tin. I took equal amounts of each with my small silver snuff spoon and this mix is now sitting on my desk. I will try to let it settle for at least 48 hours. Madness?? Maybe!! I’m bored after not working for 12 days and that’s why I did it. I hope I will be able to use this mixture. Now why did I put it on here? Because I would like to know whether there are some more crazy people like me out there. Cheers Pieter
So Pieter - How did it taste? Which snuffs could you still recognise in that mix? Would be interesting to know which stood out.
Sorry - didnt catch the bit about letting it sit for 48 hours. Go on, have a pinch now and let us know!
Mopey, I took a pinch now and you won’t believe this; It tastes like nothing!! Only snuff that come through faintly is the Dholakia Sparrows!! I just hope it will improve with time. But if it does not, I will mix in some strong stuff to make it snuffable. Everything won’t be lost. Will let you know later on what happened
I usually end up throwing my mixes away - I guess this is why the snuff makers get paid for what they do. I did make a great mix once though - 1 part O&G, 3 parts Toque Chocolate, and 1 part The Dutch clove snuff - I forget its name. Was really very good. Maybe your snuff will turn out good, I have had cigars that tasted crap but really tasted nice after a few months in the humidor - the great mystery of tobacco awaits!
That is one hell of a mix Pieter! Hope it tastes ok. Stefan
Sounds like what I did the other night when I was bored, but my mix was of 110 varieties. I started using mine immediately after mixing, and each pinch tasted a little different. I decided to let it sit for a couple days, so the flavors can all blend together. I’ll be going back to it tomorrow, to see how it is. Pieter - you’re not the only crazy one around here.
I would think that that many flavors would all muddle together and mess up the taste, but then again, it might be like a good cigar that has different flavors to it depending on how long you smoke it. Anyways, let us know how it turns out after the flavors mix for a while.
Your walking a thin line there pal. Yet I cannot cast the first stone. I’m sure you won’t have to waste your mix. But you may have to use some sort of intelligence to make it snuffable. Unless you got really lucky. Now I didn’t see any Royal George in there.
When got back into snuffing, about 4 months ago, I got the standard HDT, IHT, and rooster. I did not like them too much so I mixed a bit of each in a wilsons cherry wood box. I have a bit from time to time and add a bit of each plain snuff I get as I get them. I never know what it will be like when I open the box. It must have about 10 things in it now. Remember crazy is only not having the same world view of a group of people. All the mixes I have done that I enjoyed enough to make again took me between 4 and 12 tries to get one I liked. If I were doing such a massive project as you I would expect to do 100s of tests to get something I loved.
I like to make mixes too, but I’ve never tried that many types all together! I hope it settles down to something nice, Pieter!
I’ve stirred and tasted the mix about 10 times already and everytime it’s different. The first impression is of a cool (cold) breeze going up my nose. Not a menthol smell at all, just cool. Next is a very slight burn which is very nice. There after ?? I can’t describe it !! It’s like nothing else I’ve ever tasted, so I can’t say it’s like this or that!! One thing is sure so far, the snuff in there isn’t wasted. It is GOOOOOD!!! I’ve put it down now and will let it rest for a couple of days. Will tell you some more about this concoction later.
Sounds great. Makes me wanna try some mixes once I increase my snuff variety a bit.
You are so right!!! But…I wish you can taste this!! I’ve been at it all morning, trying to find a way to describe it. It’s unreal. There is no way I can tell what it’s like. I’ve some of this monster mix in a seperate tin and I’ve been digging into it all the time, can’t stop. It is absolutely delicious. I’ve put some away, will try to let it mature but I don’t know for how long! But, I won’t do it like this again. I will rather start with a plain snuff like Natural and add on from there. I might have some snuff in MG 47 (mixed grill with 47 snuffs) which do nothing to enhance the taste.
Lol Roderick. Stefan
It’s 9.00pm and I’m still busy with MG47, must have sniffed a good 5grams already today. And the taste keeps on changing all the time. At some stage it reminded me of Christmas Joy. Now it’s sweet like nothing I’ve tried before. Oh, it is so good!! Roderick, I’m a South Afican and we tend to be a little behind the rest of the world in all respects. So please tell me what is significant of being called Heinz? The only Heinz I know is a company who makes old world medicine. And thank goodness, MG47 does not taste like medicine at all. Cheers Pieter
Heinz 57 varieties is ketchup. We use the term to describe something with many differant backrounds. Ie: if someone has a mutt with unknown parentage, we might say he’s a “heinz 57 variety”
Thank you, miamimark!! Unfortunately I only have 47 different snuffs at present. If both my orders get delivered this week, I will have 57 by the weekend and I might go for a MG57. Hell, this stuff is potent. I was just now sitting 2 metres away from my wife and everytime I opened the tin, she would rub her nose and complain about “the smell”. Funny thing about this mix is, it does not clog up my nose at all although I’ve been at it all day long. I’ve never before sniffed so much snuff in one day. This is the good life!!
what did George 3 mix all his snuffs???
bigblue 1, I’m happy if I can still make someone laugh. We live in a sad sad world and many a time, people are so serious about life that all the joy is lost (see posts about new products). Me, I don’t take life to serious. I wanna be, for ever young!! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! This MG47 is just growing better and better, never had anything so nice before, except MAYBE sex.
So then you should have sex while you have a snoot full of MG47!
I’ve tried the MG47 again this morning after it’s been sitting for at least 48hours without being disturbed. I’m unable to describe the smell/taste/aroma. The nice, cool breeze up my nose is still there, it’s sweet, spicy, darkish…very nice indeed. I will do it again, for sure. What amazes me is the nicotine hit. It makes my head spin, it is STRONG! Why should that be? So, what I have here is a snuff, very easy on the nose, beautiful aroma with one hell of a nicotine hit. You want some? See the top of the page for the recipe!! Aaaah, after about 5 minutes, I now smell CUSTARD
Wow it must be an amazing snuff if you can smell dead generals from that far away. (sorry just in a funny mood today)
I have some of this mix in my Patrick box for today. It is good. Period. I won’t do it again. In fact, I’m not going to make any more big mixes. Hopefully, by end next week, my latest order will be here and I will have 60 different snuffs. I’m going to store them according to type, all dry stuff together, all SP’s together etc. I have on my desk a nice bowl in which I’m going to place my day’s snuffs. I will then change this everyday so that I can rotate through my stock regularly. As it is now, I sometimes “detect” a snuff of which I have already forgotten. I don’t want that anymore. I also have lots of mixes, some small (5g) some large (25g). I’m going to find me I nice, airtight screwtop jar and chuck ALL of this mixed stuff in there. If it’s a flop, so be it. I’m fed-up with all the little bottles and tins and boxes and what not with more or less snuff in them. I will still make cocktails but, one at a time and small amounts. Once I’ve used it all, I will make something else. I’m trying to get some order back in my life and this is the place for me to start. And, as we say in AA ( yes, I’m a recovering alcoholic, member of AA and sober since 24/12/93 ) “thanks for listening to me” !! Regards Pieter
GOOD NEWS!!! This “blend”, after adding some more unwanted snuffs, developed into the most delicious snuff I’ve ever tasted and I have about 250grams of it. BAD NEWS!!! I haven’t the faintest idea of what it consists of now.
I was just wondering how MG47 was coming along, Pieter! Can you try to describe the flavour now it’s had time to settle?
Hi Debbie, it’s very diificult to describe the smell of this mix. First of all, when I open the jar, the aroma that comes forth, reminds me of a freshly baked fruitcake, sweet smelling and “warm”. It might also be smelling like Christmas pudding, the ones that my mother used to bake. The snuff is quite moist because I’ve added a lot of Taxi Blue and Red. I buy Taxi for the tins, which I use as snuff boxes. The tobacco smell is very distinct because of the all the Taxi. After a while, and another pinch, I do get a hint of mint because I’ve added some Crumbs of Comfort. The overall aroma is sweet and minty with a nice tobacco flavour. I don’t mean sweet as in candy, more like stewed fruit. Problem with MG 47+ is, it’s very moreish. Once I’m into it, like now, I can’t stop. The nicotine hit is above average and every pinch leaves a very nice, soft “after burn”. Funny enough, it’s not cloggy at all, does make my nose run a bit but that’s OK because once I had a good blast, I can just continue. The texture, once again because of all the Taxi, is coarse and it does tend to drop out of my nose. But I don’t worry about that, I go outside on the lawn and just have my way with this wonderful stuff, scooping lots and lots out of my Patrick box!!! It’s NICE. I LOVE SNUFF Regards Pieter
I’ve now got to find a new name for MG 47, something like MUBAR…Mixed Up Beyond Any Recognition. I kept on adding more and more snuff until I now have what I believe to be African Jewel. It’s sweet, like honey, with a very good after glow. One can still recognise the menthol - O&G and Toque - but very far off. Peppermint also shines through if you really “look” for it. Because of all the Taxi in there, it’s also got a nice tobacco flavour in the background. It’s still moist, also due to the Taxi and because I keep it in a glass jar with screw on lid. But, unlike Taxi, the snuff sits snuggly in my nose. I’ve finished off a Patrick Box (will this become our standard snuffbox measure?) today!! Very moreish, no clogging and soft on the nose. Problem is, I have NO idea of what’s in it as far as quantities are concerned. So I will never be able to repeat this operation. I’ve weighed an identical, empty jar and then my snuff containing jar to see how much of this concoction I have…287grams of pure gold!!! That’s 11.48 25g tins. Should last me a while.
SnuffPM, here is my effort to mix my own. At present I have a total of 54 different snuffs in there and…I often finish a Patrick box in one day. I won’t even try to describe the taste…IT’S AWESOME !!! I take HUGE pinches of this mix, it’s perfect
Maybe we should all go for it!
@ Pieter, he’s gone! not been active since Jun 23rd 2009
