Tom I agree. I am not angry just a little irritated that it took me 12 years to realize it is all BS. What a waste of my life. I tried to get out on the Navy’s early out program and got denied. oh well I hang in there another 9 months. it wont be hard after 12 years. One thing is for certain all 3 of my kids are going to college
Agreed. Had a great time but now its time to join the productive members of society.
Well there are some initial rights we agree to give up naturally but as the years go by and we get new people in office they make changes that take even more away from us. Its all good my time is up. all I can do now is respect those who still serve and be glad I am not them
Well I say thanks and God bless to all our folks in the millitary, whoever and wherever they are. You have done and are doing a great job.
@Kincaidc: In a few years you will be glad for the experience you had in the Navy. It gives you a different outlook on life and a different attitude towards it. Give it some time.
I must agree with Nachman, the things I experienced during those 35+ years made me a completely different person. I can’t get upset about stuff anymore, I learned to enjoy the small things in life. I’m getting out end of the year (if approved), I’ll be 52 then, time to enjoy my last years. They decided to close 40% of all military bases last year, easy to do as the military personnel can’t take any action. We have to work with minimum material and training, only the special forces are a exception, they are very well trained but they don’t deploy them because they are afraid for casualties. Times have changed.
I served 12 years in the german army. Infantry, Scoutbataillon as an explorer. Several times at mission. Afghanistan,Djibouti,Ex-Jugoslavia. Just left the army in 10/2007.
It does have it’s benefits. I hope you learned a useful trade, I did not.
Definatly some of my millitary friends (never been one myself) are definatly my friends I would want there in a tight situation. Strange side note all of my ex or current military friends have been willing to try snuff.
Formerly of the Royal Corps of Signals. 600 independant sig troop and a lot of individual placement with other signals units to handle special equipment.
Agreed, while I was only in the Marine Corps 4 years, I wouldn’t trade the experience for the world. But, getting back to kincaid’s rant. We should support anyone who wants to serve our military and that includes gays. I’ll admit that I bought into the “homophobia” while I was in, but I was also young and stupid. I now see that was an erroneous stereotype. And “screw Obama?” WTF kind of nonsense is that? He hasn’t even made any changes to the military for you to be complaining about. If anything you should be pissed off at the last asshole who got us mixed up in all this. Afghanistan brought down the Russians, and combined with Iraq, it’s likely to do the same to the USA if we don’t get the hell out of there. Maybe after this war we can go help decide who gets the “holy land”.
@Kincaid, Twelve years! One might be inclined to wait it out until retirement; I know I wish I had. I had this idea that life in the civilian sector was free of bullshit. Fourteen years later I have had my full share of as much bs as the Navy ever dished out, and then some–but I’ve endured it with shittier benefits and less pay than I received in the Navy. If I had it to do over again, I’d have spent those fourteen years in the NAV and would be about to retire–but to each his own.
Well retiring is never going to happen for me. I’d rather eat ouT of a dumpster than spend one more minute as a robot for uncle Sam. And to clarify I am not bashing on the gays in the military. I am simply stating keep it to yourself we don’t care nor do we need to hear about your sexual preference. The straight guys don’t run around the ship making sure everyone knows they are strait that would be sexual harrasement. And yes Screw Obama for the simple fact that sunfegnugen you are rght he hasn’t done a damn thing. Not even what he has promised to do.
I think you’ll find a lot of similarities - and a massive amount of BS - in the police force. I’m considering early retirement after 21 years for at least some of the reasons you mention for the military. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great job and I’m proud I’ve done it - just pays to go in with your eyes open in this day and age.
Eh well if. Don’t like that I’ll find something else. I am sick of doing a job I hate. Life is too short so if I find myself miserable yet again I’ll quit and do something else. I have made enough money in the stock market crash that I could survive a few years without a job at all so i am not worried about it. I am concerned wih the fact that I am about out of Mc Chrystals O and G though. I love that stuff!
Of course, get the essentials right! Actually at least 25% of my colleagues are ex-army, most like it well enough and its steady work that you can make a difference with. The great (and probably saving) thing is that however much BS the politicians or bosses put onto the force you will still find yourself one day helping someone so much that it makes everyhting worthwhile. Shortly after joining I found myself runnning to a call from a lone female who had heard her back door being forced at 3 am. She stayed on the line and we got there in time; no one can mess with that kind of satisfaction. Go for it my friend.
Hell yeah snufster much better than stripping and waxing a freaking P-way. I can’t wait
GOOD GOD Kincaidc! Needle guns, scrapers and paint. I saw the bullshit on the wall with the navy post tailhook, I did my time but when the worthless lifer nursecorps thinking they are line officers stripped my gi-bill for nothing they could kiss my arse! I miss the old full time not so PC and pansy navy, when they labeled it the kinder gentler anything leave. I would have been 1-2 years off of retirement this year nor do I care.
I spend 2 years in the Dutch Army. Had fun, but glad I’m not longer in the army.
