Any snuffers out there who are fellow members of the military?

T

Not in a long while.

L

No military experience. However, I am an Eagle Scout which I believe qualifies me for a slightly higher rank upon enlistment or draft. Bizarre…

A

Battery Sergeant Major, Field Artillery(Signals) here, too old for active reserve now.

X

navy reserve here. 14 years now. I was (am?) an Eagle Scout too, FWIW.

S

Air Force K-9 back in the day. Dual certified Patrol/Narcotic dogs most of the time. Far East and Central America/Nicuaraga and Panama. We did what we had to do. Wouldn’t do it again, wouldn’t trade it for anything.

S

Serving with the TA. Was in the regs (Coldstream Guards) but had to leave during my training due to problems at home. Plan on rejoining as an officer after college. Army No: 30032244 Serving with: In process of transfering to Honourable Artillery Company from 70 (Essex Yeomanry) Singals Squadron.

P

I did time in the army during 1963/64, anti-aircraft regiment in Cape Town. Then some short camps while on the reserve list for 10 years. I still have my battle dress, size 32 pants and 36 jacket. I’m now size 42 pants and 48 jacket. My army no was AT 26668 and my rifle’s no 4278, FN full automatic, 20 rounds.

I am going on my 15th year in the Army myself. Just finished my second tour in Iraq. It has been great but I will also be happy to retire in 5 more years and spend some more time with my family.

S

Been in the military since my 16th, could have retired last year but declined and wanted to stay until I’m 56. But with the way things are in the military at the moment (new governement, less money) I’m going to retire 1ste of Januari next year (I’ll be 52 then). Started with 1 year of service in Germany with the 1st Cavalry Hunters, then I was old enough to apply for the elite forces, got through training and loved the livestyle, always on the move, all over the world. Until during a mission I got seriously injured and had to move on. I then became a dog handler/trainer until now. btw snuff was something lots of guys used in the special forces as we where not allowed to smoke for obvious reasons during missions.

S

USMC, most of my time was spent with the Fleet Anti-terrorism Security Team (F.A.S.T. Co.), which is part of the Marine Corps Security force battalion.

S

I fly F-14 tomcats in the movies! they call me Iceman.

D

It has been a long time but I was Air Force for six years, and I have a son currently in Iraq in the US Army Infantry. Husband was also Air Force.

T

I worked on submarines in the 80’s.

S

I hunted submarines in the 90s!

S

I always wondered how live on a submarine would be, we did training with the navy seals but where not allowed aboard of a submarine. Belgium only has a few mine hunting boats and one very old Russian submarine on display for the public. I suppose it takes a special kind of person to be able to live on board of a submarine, very stress resistant?

K

I am in the Navy 12 years now. Im an E-6 and getting out in November of this 2010. yep thats right I have no desire to retire from the military and am throwing it all away to become a cop in Los Angeles and I cannot wait until my time is up. Every since the military became a popularity contest with the politicians changing shit around they can keep it. Screw Obama. Women on Subs, Gays serving openly, Liberty buddies, hurting peoples feeling ect ect all I can say is FTN . Phew I feel a lot better thank you for this thread

A

And “politicians” are the people you serve and if you have a problem with that, you shouldn’t be in military.

T

I can see in some ways where he is coming from. I was in the Navy back in '84, and that was before it became so feminized. Now the men and women do boot camp together. Nothing against women, but the problem here, is that the women are right next to you, yet they do not have to do the same level as you, and it become more a co-ed social club. And subs are a small craft, and it’s just a fact, women and men together like that, can be a disruption. As far as gays, I don’t care, they never bothered me. But yeah, unless you agree to be disposable pawn for the government’s interests, you shouldn’t join or be in. I got out. Though I joined mainly to leave a bad homelife. I’m glad I did it, but wouldn’t do it again.

K

Tom I agree. I am not angry just a little irritated that it took me 12 years to realize it is all BS. What a waste of my life. I tried to get out on the Navy’s early out program and got denied. oh well I hang in there another 9 months. it wont be hard after 12 years. One thing is for certain all 3 of my kids are going to college

K

Agreed. Had a great time but now its time to join the productive members of society.

K

Well there are some initial rights we agree to give up naturally but as the years go by and we get new people in office they make changes that take even more away from us. Its all good my time is up. all I can do now is respect those who still serve and be glad I am not them

A

Well I say thanks and God bless to all our folks in the millitary, whoever and wherever they are. You have done and are doing a great job.

N

@Kincaidc: In a few years you will be glad for the experience you had in the Navy. It gives you a different outlook on life and a different attitude towards it. Give it some time.

S

I must agree with Nachman, the things I experienced during those 35+ years made me a completely different person. I can’t get upset about stuff anymore, I learned to enjoy the small things in life. I’m getting out end of the year (if approved), I’ll be 52 then, time to enjoy my last years. They decided to close 40% of all military bases last year, easy to do as the military personnel can’t take any action. We have to work with minimum material and training, only the special forces are a exception, they are very well trained but they don’t deploy them because they are afraid for casualties. Times have changed.

L

I served 12 years in the german army. Infantry, Scoutbataillon as an explorer. Several times at mission. Afghanistan,Djibouti,Ex-Jugoslavia. Just left the army in 10/2007.

T

It does have it’s benefits. I hope you learned a useful trade, I did not.

B

Definatly some of my millitary friends (never been one myself) are definatly my friends I would want there in a tight situation. Strange side note all of my ex or current military friends have been willing to try snuff.

B

Formerly of the Royal Corps of Signals. 600 independant sig troop and a lot of individual placement with other signals units to handle special equipment.

S

Agreed, while I was only in the Marine Corps 4 years, I wouldn’t trade the experience for the world. But, getting back to kincaid’s rant. We should support anyone who wants to serve our military and that includes gays. I’ll admit that I bought into the “homophobia” while I was in, but I was also young and stupid. I now see that was an erroneous stereotype. And “screw Obama?” WTF kind of nonsense is that? He hasn’t even made any changes to the military for you to be complaining about. If anything you should be pissed off at the last asshole who got us mixed up in all this. Afghanistan brought down the Russians, and combined with Iraq, it’s likely to do the same to the USA if we don’t get the hell out of there. Maybe after this war we can go help decide who gets the “holy land”.

S

@Kincaid, Twelve years! One might be inclined to wait it out until retirement; I know I wish I had. I had this idea that life in the civilian sector was free of bullshit. Fourteen years later I have had my full share of as much bs as the Navy ever dished out, and then some–but I’ve endured it with shittier benefits and less pay than I received in the Navy. If I had it to do over again, I’d have spent those fourteen years in the NAV and would be about to retire–but to each his own.

K

Well retiring is never going to happen for me. I’d rather eat ouT of a dumpster than spend one more minute as a robot for uncle Sam. And to clarify I am not bashing on the gays in the military. I am simply stating keep it to yourself we don’t care nor do we need to hear about your sexual preference. The straight guys don’t run around the ship making sure everyone knows they are strait that would be sexual harrasement. And yes Screw Obama for the simple fact that sunfegnugen you are rght he hasn’t done a damn thing. Not even what he has promised to do.

A

I think you’ll find a lot of similarities - and a massive amount of BS - in the police force. I’m considering early retirement after 21 years for at least some of the reasons you mention for the military. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great job and I’m proud I’ve done it - just pays to go in with your eyes open in this day and age.

K

Eh well if. Don’t like that I’ll find something else. I am sick of doing a job I hate. Life is too short so if I find myself miserable yet again I’ll quit and do something else. I have made enough money in the stock market crash that I could survive a few years without a job at all so i am not worried about it. I am concerned wih the fact that I am about out of Mc Chrystals O and G though. I love that stuff!

A

Of course, get the essentials right! Actually at least 25% of my colleagues are ex-army, most like it well enough and its steady work that you can make a difference with. The great (and probably saving) thing is that however much BS the politicians or bosses put onto the force you will still find yourself one day helping someone so much that it makes everyhting worthwhile. Shortly after joining I found myself runnning to a call from a lone female who had heard her back door being forced at 3 am. She stayed on the line and we got there in time; no one can mess with that kind of satisfaction. Go for it my friend.

K

Hell yeah snufster much better than stripping and waxing a freaking P-way. I can’t wait

D

GOOD GOD Kincaidc! Needle guns, scrapers and paint. I saw the bullshit on the wall with the navy post tailhook, I did my time but when the worthless lifer nursecorps thinking they are line officers stripped my gi-bill for nothing they could kiss my arse! I miss the old full time not so PC and pansy navy, when they labeled it the kinder gentler anything leave. I would have been 1-2 years off of retirement this year nor do I care.
