I’ve tried a few, my favourite being Hedges L260…silky smooth, fine but moist, huge whack of nicotine and menthol but an underlying hum of quality tobacco too. Minor nose burn, but the kind that makes one feel excited rather than watery-eyed and throbbing-faced. Poschl President is very nice, very strong menthol whoomph, no nose burn at all and a nice nic hit, but gives me an incessant and unpleasant-tasting throat drip which will probably put me off using it in the long run. WoS Ice Liquorice is delicious, and was my first snuff love-the liquorice is subtle, but it delivers well on the menthol front-not overwhelming but present enough to let you know it’s there. I’m a fan of mentholated snuffs, part of my work involves me singing regularly and I find a good honk of Hedges clears my head and gets all my pipes open for business. Good stuff! I’ve heard that Toque are making some pleasant menthols, so will try some soon. I doubt I would ever make a menthol my go-to snuff, but I like to dip into them from time to time, mainly as a palette-cleanser inbetween other snuffs. What are your favourite menthols?

X

Jip, WoS Honey Menthol, WoS SM 500 Odd for me to have favorites, since I used to loathe menthol. I still have to be careful with it. I also love the lightly mentholated florals from Gawith Hoggarth, like Lakeland.

S

My favourite menthols are, McChrystal’s O&G, WoS Honey Menthol, and WoS SM Blue.

J

Interesting stuff…I have to admit that WoS Honey Menthol caught my eye last time I was ordering from Mr. Snuff, I was was very tempted but limited myself to my already-extravagant seven purchases, knowing that I’d be laying cash on the barrelhead for some Abraxas joy before long. Next time!

M

GH Camphor Menthol is a must try!

A

McChrystal’s O&G and Wilsons Honey Menthol for me too, and I can get those locally.

K

O&G for me. I also really like Gawith Hoggarth M4X, which is a herbal menthol, it has the aroma of autumn rain.

T

O&G

J

Khalid, I think you just sold that M4X to me-what a great description! I’ll have to track some down.

W

O&G, SM Blue, Hedges, Toque Cherry Menthol. Stefan

P

Can not make a final choice on that matter. i am a HUGE fan of menthols and i am more then happy that the world of snuff of today has so much to offer. (of course, i like snuff without menthol too)

N

Gotta be McC O&G for me

B

l260

B

Have half a tin of WoS Extra Menthol in my drawer. It does the trick.

H

I had been using President almost exclusively for several years… Then I discovered snuff from India!

I

O&G. The only menthol I could say I like. Every other menthol I have bought ( and there have been plenty) Have become gifts to the earth.

M

G&H M4X & Lakeland, Bernard Fichtennadel and recently I have discovered that WoS Vanilla Ice is quite pleasant!

M

Bernard’s Polar Prise is bloody remarkable. A must try as well.

J

Vathek, is WoS Prime Minister a straight-up Menthol or a blend of Menthol and something else? I’m intrigued to try. I think a great Menthol snuff is very, very hard to get bang on, and I can see why Hedges L260 has been in production for so long-I love that stuff, it’s like snuffing a minty fist in a silken glove.

J

@matsnuffs I am a bit of a Bernard convert of late, I’ll try that Polar Prise on my next order. @howdydave I like President a lot, but for the pesky sour throat drip it gives me-I don’t get that from Hedges, I wonder what the differing ingredient/change is?

J

@Mrnose Vanilla Ice? I wonder why I haven’t spied that one before…is it still in production? I hope they didn’t cease production because the name clashed with that of a dreadful 1990s rapper…

M

@Jinder: Polar Prise is what the poschle’s snuff should have been

H

@Jinder I never have a post nasal drip issue with President. Could be that I don’t take it as far up my nose as you do. All the drip I get is out of my nose, which requires me to blow my nose fairly soon after taking a sniff. It’s a great decongestant!

M

I actually like some Poschle’s snuff–it has a mixed reputation. President and GP were my first snuffs. Gletscherprise, I swear, is 500 times better out of foil re-fill packet than a tap box.

B

oddly enough red bull has started stuffing me up, but president presents no problems.

T

O&G. alpina a close second and in third place ice liquorice. The last one reminds me of PK chewing gum.

J

i like lowenprise and hedges mixed together

A

Kendal Eucalyptus

P

I like WoS Super Menthol, by itself and as a mixer.

O

I have only ever tried two mentholated snuffs although I will try more in the future but the ones I do have I will most likely restock on when I got out, the first English snuff I ever tried was Prime Minister and I love it reminds me of the way the air smells after a spring rain, the menthol is not too strong as to make you cry but it definitely makes its presence known. The other that I have recently acquired was Poschl’s Ozona Raspberry…it’s a bit like having a Cherry or Raspberry cough drop in your nose which is not a bad thing but that’s what it makes me think of each time I take a sniff.

U

O&G regularly. Other menthols - especially the Poeschls - clog my nose.

B

SM Blue. The only menthol in my house. I alternate between that and SM 500. I use menthol only for sinus clearing purposes and if me or the kids get sick. A little pinch of menthol works wonders for plugged sinus. My youngest is 16 and not addicted, so save to recriminations, please.

Z

Hedges or WoS Prime Minister can’t decide.

X

@Jinder: Almost all Pöschl products give me wicked post nasal drip as well. I know it happens to a lot of other people too. I think its the combination of too much menthol and the paraffin they use. Bernard’s (even the mentholated ones) don’t do it to me and they also use paraffin. So something specific about Pöschl’s recipes. I used to hack and spit and try to clear them from my throat. I’ve since learned only to take them right before a hot shower.

M

@Jinder: Vanilla Ice is still available, we carry it at my shop in Missouri. And concerning the early 90’s rapper with the same moniker, I find the allusion to be a selling point among my younger customers.

S

Hedges L260 is the ultimate strong menthol IMO, though Poschl’s Red Bull is also great for a strong menthol kick. It seems finer and stronger than most other Poschls. My absolute favourite is probably Gawith Apricot, though the menthol aspect is a bit milder than with many menthol snuffs. Also get through a lot of President, and others that have also been mentioned… I would also add Radfords (in the big tins) which has a spicey kind of edge, and particularly J&H Wilson’s Medicated no99.

J

@sloth - I’ve just received a box of Gawith Apricot from Mr Snuff, so I look forward to trying that! @mrnose - hehehe I should imagine it is-it’s certainly a humorous name for a snuff. I’ll try some, I love Ice Liquorice so Vanilla Ice sounds great. @bigmick - no worries, I’m certainly not going to be judgemental. There are far worse things a 16yr old can take than a pinch of menthol snuff to clear his head! @ourlastdefeat @vathek - I’ll try Prime Minister on my next order, sounds delicious, thanks for the descriptions, gentlemen! @howdydave - I may be taking my President a bit further into my nose than your good self-I’ll try taking a more delicate sniff and seeing what happens…certainly makes for a top-notch decongestant prior to a singing commitment for me, if I could knock the throat drip on the head I’d take it with me to every gig. @matsnuffs - Polar Prise is on the shopping list! Thanks to all for the input-great info.

M

Highland Ice by McCrystal’s is often overlooked, but pretty nice. I liked English Menthol too. Toque Menthol is a shining star, as well.
