Mentholated/Medicated Snuffs

I am looking for opinions on the menthol snuffs. Up until recently I was exclusively doing Red Bull. My shipments have come in and i now have a wide variety of snuffs, but have run almost empty on the Red Bull. Of what I ordered I got mostly Bernard and Poschl stuff and I am making do with Gletscher Prise and Andech’s Spezial but nothing is as awesome as that sweet hard hit of menthol/eucalyptus. Red Bull is a great strong menthol snuff but it features that wonderful Poschl rebound congestion effect. I will get more Red Bull but I want more. I am definitely going to order Hedges L260. What other mentholated/medicated snuffs should I order? EDIT: Here’s the List! Hedges L260 25g McChrystal’s Original & Genuine 21g Sharrow Mentholated 25g Vac Tin Gawith Hoggarth CM 10g Gawith Hoggarth Eucalyptus 25g Ummm Bundle sale? Adding more later

If you haven’t tried McChrystal’s O&G then that would be one suggestion. Also, the WoS menthols are worth a try - especially if you like spearmint/peppermint as well. Prime Minister is a good one for that sort of mix.

@DilligafB‌, give the WoS SM range a try, also their Raspberry has a great menthol hit and my wife goes through it in one pound six-packs. GH Eucalyptus, Medicated and CM (Camphor & Menthol), WoS Sharrow Mentholated, McChrystal Original are all good. Toque makes a fine menthol and menthol/fruit snuffs. If you’re feeling adventurous give Abraxas Dragun Menthol a try; great, fabulous wonderful snuff-but it kicked my ass up around my shoulders and I had to part my hair to sit down. My main issue with menthol is the rebound congestion, but your mileage may vary. Hedges is always a good bet. I’ve yet to enjoy SG menthols but their Dr. Verey range has legions of fans, so it must be a matter of taste. Lil’ Brown Shack has WoS Dr. Rumney’s, and is a close rendition of the original Illingworth Dr. Rumney’s Mentholyptus (only this one is actually fresh). http://www.lilbrown.com/p-8878-wilsons-dr-rumneys-snuff-12ct.aspx For pure kick-ass menthol, you can’t go wrong with Red Bull.

@chefdaniel i am hoping to find a menthol snuff that has less rebound congestion than Poschl. I thought it was caused more by the mineral oils used in German snuffs. All menthols do that? I’m not religious, but please LORD NO!

The oils don’t help, but in my case they aren’t the culprit. I get the same rebound congestion from English, German and Indian snuffs that crank up the menthol factor. That’s why I rely on Eucalyptus to tame things a bit. I think that menthol crystals used in snuff produce the same effect that menthol inhalers inflict on regular users; that’s why I no longer use 'em. It’s most likely an individual body chemistry thing, some can handle it, others can’t. That’s why I break out the eucalyptus. Like food, always play with your snuff until you hit the zone

A good yet different take on the menthols other than the Poschl´s it the McChristal´s O&G, the menthol on this is lighter and ,at least to me, with no rebound it fades shortly after into a sweet tobacco base. A sure bet.

McChrystal’s Jip is a nice strong menthol

I’ll be honest and say that in general, Gawith Apricot is about as much menthol as I’m prepared to do, and even that would be as occasional use. That said I have just found two refreshing snuffs from WoS very much to my liking; Spearmint Plus and Ice Liquorice. I spend most of my snuff shopping scouring for reviews trying to avoid menthol content (and dry/fine grinds) and am always dismayed in the number of snuffs that have it, so you should have no problem upping your options. You’ll find several menthols and medicated from most mills

Give a try to 6Photo Medicated No.666/No.66/No.6

Another vote for McChrystal’s O&G here.

The first snuff I ever tried was L260. I still like it but not long ago I discovered Fubar medic, which I really like and is a great ‘first thing in the morning’ snuff to clear out the passages. If you can get past the somewhat bizarre name and marketing it’s a really good snuff.

Poschls clog me up terribly. No other snuff does. English menthols indian menthols and bernards clog me up but it doesn’t last long and never feels like cement nose plugs never. So… It is worth a try. And for whatever reason Jr Justice clogs me up terribly too.

Had to take advantage of some sales as well. Thanks for the suggestions guys.

@DilligafB‌ Nice order! I think you’ll be very happy with all those. Glad to see you got the GH Eucalyptus-I add some to almost all menthol snuffs. It makes for a refreshing no-clog treat, for me at least. The CM is also good with a nice dose of camphor to balance the menthol. Good job.

J&H Wilson’s Medicated No.99 is my favorite menthol snuff.

I wish I enjoyed Menthol … all :-& to me … Such a nice looking list @DilligafB‌

So far I have tried the Hedges and I just tried Jip which was very similar. They of course remind me of Red Bull. I also tried the SM 500 which was different, but good. I have decanted Hedges into a Red Bull tapbox, which I think will be always on me. I love the Hedges! For me I don’t get major rebound congestion with non-Poschl snuffs. I get wicked stoppage though. I am hesitant to just start cracking tins open and trying these snuffs as I understand that non-German snuffs are more susceptible to drying out. As well, I don’t have many containers to decant them into. How well do WoS snuffs fare after cracking the seal?

How well do WoS snuffs fare after cracking the seal?

In my experience, not terribly well - and they don’t do wonderfully before you remove the seal, either. I use electrical tape on all my Wilsons tins - just put it over the green tape when I first get the tin, and then when I have opened it using it to re-seal. This seems to work well enough.

Cant beat the Hedges snuff, or the red bull for that matter…

I did love red bull but I’m one that can’t do menthol (it destroys my nose) and it doesn’t get much more menthol than that lol. I finally finished it off a couple months ago just taking tiny pinches here and there spacing them out days or weeks until it was gone. There was more than once I got a little too cocky and took too big of hit which was good at first but once the nose started running and then intense sneezing then congestion I felt instant regret. I may like menthol but my nasal cavity sure doesn’t.
