Menthol clogging

I’ve been using snuff for just over a year now - I have acquired quite a few tins in that time and tend to switch things up on a daily basis.

I have found that I can do almost any amount of plain, schmalzlers and such without issue, but within a few minutes of bumping any menthol/medicated snuff, my sinuses will block up (they will ease after a little while).
Is this a common effect of snuff? The initial mentholated bump will instantly open me up, but almost completely close within 10 minutes (re-opening after around an hour).
I’m okay reducing the amount of menthol intake - it doesn’t seem to be the case with blends from the likes of Bernard, Rosinski or Pfalzer, but McChrystals, Wilsons and 6Photo blends, I can almost guarantee it.

I was just curious if this is a thing for others - it’s not unbearable, but almost certainly a pattern; it is also somewhat reduced with good hydration, but not totally alleviated.

Yeah , that’s pretty much my experience too . Some of my favourite snuffs are menthols but I can’t really use them as alldayers . If I was using snus too , not so much an issue . But on a 100% snuff diet I mostly stick with plains .

Thanks for the reply - nice to know I’m not alone in this; no matter, it won’t stop me enjoying menthol/med’ snuffs, I just need to remind myself that I also enjoy breathing through my nostrils!

Menthol rebound is a thing apparently, so the more you use it the more congested you become, or so google tells me.

On the other hand, the paper below suggests that menthol does not affect the airflow (its not a decongestant) but rather it fools you into thinking your breathing easier by stimulating your cold receptors, like the anti version of chilli burn.

Thanks. I’ll read that later (I’m playing a pool match tonight).
I wonder if the likes of Jip! and other snuffs which claim to have eucalyptus actually do offer any decongestant properties, or they simply amplify the near placebo effect?

For what it’s worth, much as I love Jip! I definitely get a rebound if I bump it too often. However, I found that I don’t have the same problem with J & H Wilson’s Medicated No. 99. I can use that all day without trouble. I have no idea why but I’m pleased to have made the discovery.
