Been researching melatonin, I guess at night if you’ve got melatonin (sleepy hormone) going in your brain, it detracts from the level of dopamine nicotine will give you. Another reason the first snuffs of the day are the best. When you have high cortisol levels (stress hormone that gets released when you start waking up) it makes the nicotine cause more of a dopamine surge… Mm dopamine surge…

This may explain late night binging. I personally am more inclined to use much more tobacco before sleeping resulting in less satisfying results, yet other symptoms of heavy nicotine dosing are present. This would be a symptom of addiction. It is said that dopamine production as the result of nicotine uptake is the cause of nicotine addiction. This melatonin connection confirms this for me. Furthermore I would speculate that those who use tobacco and are not addicted to nicotine may not be getting the dopamine production from it that those who have addiction symptoms are.
