Medicated snuffs for us menthol junkies

I apologize if there is already a post pertaining to this topic., I would like some imput as to which snuffs available are the best medicated ones. I used up the last of my TOQUE menthol…bulk…alas gone. loved it. I have had Dr Rumneys and loved it. I got a sample yrs ago of the SM500 from wilsons…great snuff. Recently put in a large order with Mr Snuff for some 6 photo special, 6photo Super kailash, 6 photo anarkali. jh wilsons 99 medicated. Poschl president, samual gawith medicated I think it was called. and some wilson sm500 too. any ideas on the STRONGEST ONES would be appreciated.

Strongest? I’d say Hedges 260 “The Snuff”. (strongest menthol that is)

Frederic Tranter Glacier. Feel free to correct me on this one, but it’s one of the strongest I’ve yet to try.

I agree about Hedges L260 being one of the strongest. WoS Extra Menthol packs a hefty menthol punch also. I haven’t yet tried Pöschl Red Bull, but it is reputed to be a very strong menthol. I’ve got some of the latter on order – I’ll update this after it arrives.

Hedges L260 is indeed probably the ultimate menthol mutha when it comes to strength. Poschl Red Bull is also top notch… I prefer President overall, as an all day/everyday snuff, and it does have a damn decent menthol kick, but Red Bull is much stronger if you’re mainly after the menthol blast. Medicated no99 is also splendid, and I’d add Radford (big tin variety). I haven’t tried WoS Extra Menthol that @PipenSnusnSnuff mentioned, but WoS Menthol Plus is pretty strong.

I can’t stand mentholated snuff, but I can confirm that Red Bull has a LOT of menthol in it. I bought some just for the container and made the mistake of trying some before I dumped the contents. As a menthol hater, I instantly regretted trying it, but if you like menthol you’re in for a treat. I know you enjoy experimenting with blends and stuff, have you considered getting hold of some menthol crystals and mentholating your own? The crystals are dirt cheap, you only need a tiny bit, amd you get to tailor your snuff to the exact menthol level you enjoy. Also, you get to try menthol versions of your favorite snuffs, even though there might not be a commercially available mentholated version.

@mr nose … so you think the fredrick tranter glacier has more of a menthol blast than hedges ?? if so gotta get some

It was Hedges L260 that nearly put me off snuffing for life. It is widely available in newsagents in the area that I lived in, so naturally it was the snuff I tried first. Unfortunately it was alsi the snuff I tried second and third. My friends and I used to buy it just to dare each other to take it! If I hadn’t realised that not all snuff was viciously mentholated, I would never have properly discovered this wonderful hobby. I’m certainly not knocking anyone for liking mentholated snuffs, but they are definitely not for me. @graybeard19, I forgot to mention that Red Bull also has other stuff in it; eucalyptus is one of the other ingredients if I recall correctly. Seems like it would be right up your street.

McChrystal’s Sturco always gets forgotten in these discussions, unless I bring it up even though I don’t like it. Way too much menthol for me. I do like their JIP! though, strong menthol but not one that sends you running around in fits of pain.

Radford is pretty strong too.

The first and only menthol snuff I’ve tried is Toque Menthol. It blew my head off! Strong or not, It helped me realize I don’t like menthol!

My very first one was Silver Dollar Cherry. It has a really, really mild menthol to it that just opens things up a bit. I really enjoy taking it in the late evening, many times as my last pinch before I pull out the sinus rinse. Toque Menthol is a different story. That stuff is really potent. It’s great for when I’m sick, but it’s a bit too much for me to use regularly. Toque Peppermint is a good balance of flavor and menthol for my tastes.

Toque peppermint is pure peppermint, I’ll swear on it! For anyone who doesnt like menthol it is somewhat a similar propostion but far easier on the nose,

It may not have menthol added, but peppermint is one of the things they extract menthol from. I get (albeit very subtile) the cooling and clearing effect from the peppermint snuff too. Then again, I may be fairly sensitive to it as I even notice it in something like a peppermint altoid. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Menthol

Menthol comes from mint. The latin for ‘mint’ is ‘mentha’, from which we get the word ‘menthol’. Originally, all menthol was produced from mint oils, but nowadays it can be synthesized. So, mint flavored things have menthol in them by default. Edit: @Dogwalla beat me to it :o)

There is a great 6 photo menthol in development, med 99 lovers will apprciate it.

snuffster you are my snuffing hero. First abraxas then this news.

@doctorbeat You’re just so much more eloquent about it  I guess this little tangent is a good example of how varied the spectrum of menthols can be. I want to get a really violent menthol. My boss is a menthol nut and has no technique. I want to see if he’ll explode if I bring in the right one.

Yes, of course menthol is extracted from mint. Everybody knows this, however mint snuffs can certainly be either mentholated or non-mentholated. For example, Wilsons Primer Minister, Spearmint Plus and Extra Crumbs of Comfort are examples of mint snuffs that are mentholated. However, their Peppermint, Country Mint, and Crumbs of Comfort are not mentholated. To be fair there is a debate ongong as to whether regular CoC has menthol. Extra CoC clearly does, but there s either none, or only a minor amount in regular CoC.

I’am sure there is menthol in Crumbs of Greatness (I’am gonna rename all my favorites). Just a touch. Though clealy there is more then mint in that one so maybe the other subtle scents make it seem more mentholy.
