I picked up this little gem from a free sample offered by Mr.Snuff Not having tried an Indian Snuff I was intrigued to know more. The wee vessel arrived in short order and I promptly got into my tiny treasure from the exotic far east.
The first thing I noticed was that the container was quite small, 8grams, a cylinder about the diameter of my thumb, an inch and a quarter high. The outside label has six photos of the founders of the company, hence the name!
I twisted through the paper label and popped the lid off. It was full to the brim with a red rusty powder. It was moist and had a complex menthol aroma. Easy does it as I lifted a small spoonful out and placed a soft moist heap on the back of my hand.
With a gentle sniff I was met with an aromatic spicy menthol. Soft and easy to take. Another spoon doled out and again the wonderful mentholated perfume of Medicated No.66.
The perfume has notes of patchouli and quite possibly sandlewood. There is a note of violet way down in there too, but it could just be my interpretation. This snuff also seems quite high in nicotine. I’m assuming a large percentage of the snuff uses sun cured tobacco, which I understand allows more nicotine to be present in the leaf. Take a good pinch, but I suggest not doubling up that volume too quickly. It could easily lead to head spins.
If you like medium moist menthols, and want a new experience I highly recommend Six Photo Snuff - Medicated No.66.
I don’t like menthol much, but I love this snuff. While I initially thought this was the same flour as 6 Photo Natural, with menthol, camphor and some other scents, I don’t think that now. I ordered 400g of No. 66 a while back, and it was much darker than Natural. There is also a deeper, almost chocolate-y body to this snuff. Like Natural, this one has a satisfying burn and nicotine level. This is one of two menthol snuffs I’ve ever tried that I enjoy for the snuff, along with GH CM. In that I mean that this one, while having plenty of menthol, isn’t solely about the menthol. The camphor also adds a great cooling finish to this. The tobacco base is top notch. This is a great first thing out of bed, last thing before bed snuff, and this is the one I’ll have on hand for when I get sick. Indispensable. The menthol snuff even a menthol hater like me could love.
Agree with both above posters. UNTIL now, they have changed the formula and added more menthol. I think it has totally ruined the delicate aromas that were distinguishable before. Now it is overpoweringly mentholated. Much stronger than before. I used to love no.66, was my favourite snuff. But this last 30g tin I have seems to be a totally different snuff. I don’t think I will be buying this anymore *sulks* Disappointed. Edit : got some more no.66 recently and its the same as it originally was and my favourite again. I actually think I got a mislabelled no.666 tin X(
This stuff it’s beautiful, indeed. Today, I’ve received my 8 gr. tub. Grind and fermentation-wise, this snuff reminded me of GH Kendal Brown (I’m not kidding here). The scent is magical: menthol tops a very well crafted perfume with notes of various herbs: while the no.6 is a fairly one dimensional (but not in a bad way) menthol/cardamom, here we’ve got a mysterious medicated scent, more powerful on the menthol and with some camphor scent lingering through. The cardamom makes his presence noticeable towards the middle of the way, and it unfolds towards the earthy, woody base. There’s something almost citric that pervades the whole experience, a smell almost like lime juice (not the lime listed on the ingredients, but the fruit, I mean). The result is natural and refreshing and as English as it’s Indian, which speaks of the crafting power of the master-blenders at 6 Photo.
