McChrystal’s Riley’s B.M. Snuff

X

Has just been announced at Snuff Store. I suppose this is another revived recipe. They sell it from bulk. I don’t need to post the link do I?

S

Nope, I got the email, too. I may try this out, but I hope they keep it for a while, as I’ve just recently put in a big order. Seems this always happens.

M

jeez I hope it’s not what it sounds like…the deer arse oil was bad enough.

X

I’m not sure I follow. What does it sound like? Deer arse oil is musk, but I think all musks nowadays are synthetic, or come from musk-like plants.

M

“B.M.” is slang for bowel movement.

B

yeah I was expecting a negative review of a snuff I’ve never heard of. Something like “Rileys c.m. smells like the outhouse at a music festival so I’ll just call it rileys B.M. snuff since that is what it smells like”. So what does it smell like.

S

Here I was thinking Riley’s Beaver Musk…

Well, here’s my review of Riley’s B.M. Snuff. Just added it to Filek’s site as well as my own.

Until Snuff Store recently started stocking this snuff I admit I had never heard of it. Definitely my loss! From Snuff Store: “Riley’s B.M. Snuff is traditionally known as the ‘loose snuff’ in the McChrystal’s range, originally sold over the counter from a jar, weighed out and then transferred into a paper packet that was marked Riley’s B.M. Snuff.” I guess that accounts for my unfamiliarity. It is very similar to Original & Genuine, being a medicated snuff with a significant camphor component, having the same medium grind, the same mid-brown colour and the same middling level of moisture. In terms of flavouring there is little to choose between them. I may or may not be imagining that I think there may be a touch more eucalyptus in the Riley’s, and that is working from a side by side (nostril by nostril) sampling. Whether Riley’s and O&G are the same or merely very similar is actually not particularly important - it’s a very tasty snuff and one which I will be happy to keep on hand.

Here’s my review since I’m waiting forever for the snuff to get added to Snuffreviews.com: Very similar to O&G but sold from bulk, so the price can’t be beat. The main differences between this and O&G are that this has a much sweeter opening note and significantly less camphor. It has a bit more menthol, but still a medium and not obnoxious level, much like O&G. Also there is less of that slight citrus character that O&G is known for. All in all its pretty good, and its a good subsitute for O&G if you’re not particular over names. In fact, all of those noted differences are probably due to its freshness being sold from bulk. I am reliably informed that the initials B.M. stand for Brown Menthol.

R

mmmmmm…beaver musk.

M

Another new one on me, since I couldn’t find the link in the latest e-mail I got from them. Wagering that I’d like the stuff, as McC never seems to disappoint me.
