So I tried menthol snuff and it just made me sneezy and congested. I’ve read some reviews that say O&G is not like that. I’ve also read things like, ‘I don’t use menthol, but I still have a spot in my collection for O&G.’ I recently ordered McChrystal’s clove and S’nuff and I loveeee clove. I’m wondering if I should take another chance on menthol, in the form of O&G. Is there more flavor in it than just menthol? What do you think?

I like O&G, but to be honest I don’t find it to be any different from many of the other menthol’s I have tried. I think you should try all the snuff you can, sometimes a snuff you do not like at first becomes one of your favorites later.

It is a strong menthol, but there are some other flavors behind it.

I think Og is a matter of suggestion. Very little to do with the actual scent. Then again who knows.

It’s not hedges strong but its definitly there around the same strength as say toque menthol but quite the different flavour. I would atleast try it as I can’t put it down (it is in my nose right now), but then again I tend to enjoy the menthols. This is my first tin (a large mcc tin) and its over half gone in 3 days, which is quite a bit for me.

I think O&G’s charm comes predominantly from the combination of the grind and balance of flavours. It’s light and fluffy and not overpowering in any way, a true all day snuff.

I have some O&G myself, I like it so much that I will be ordering a large tin as soon as I can . Highly recommend the O&G. It reminds me of Vics VapoRub, or Halls… It’s like Halls for the nose!

Having heard nothing but good about McChrystal’s bulk I think I’ll be ordering 200g of O&G this week.

12Xl is 252 g. 21g in each and from my smoking shop that will be £34.99 excluding shipping. 200g direct from McC is £28.50 including shipping. I would go for the bulk, personally.

O&G is definitely worth buying in bulk. I shall be doing so at the end of this month.

I tried some of this today for the first time. I enjoyed it very much and im not really a fan of menthols. It was from a tin that is for “public” use at my tobaconnist. (cigar bar). Possibly the constant opening closing dulled that menthol whack i usually get.

I use menthol as a kind of seasoning; a dash of menthol in a snuffbox full of plain SP is very nice and I don’t get any congestion or problems, just like taking regular snuff; apart from that Im a snot monster in 10 seconds with un-diluted menthol.

Thats a good idee snuffster. Im going to have to do that for my snuffbox tomorrow.

I actually jone’s for it after the first small tin. All new snuffers should be warned about buying to small a first time order of O&G!

I took the plunge! I ordered a large tin of McChrystal’s O&G. I also inquired about the snuff that’s flavored with hops. Ian is sending me a sample. I’m pretty excited. Their prices are a little overboard, but their snuff is ground with a little bit of heaven and I can’t get enough.

I tried a tom buck and o&g mix, and it was darn good. Thanks for the tip @snuffster !

Just add a very small amount, maybe around 1 in 10 parts. This works well with any strongly flavoured snuff to a plain one, another variant I like is Royal George with a plain snuff, just adds a nice background flavour.

I’m a big fan of the O&G. I’ve had it put away for awhile and I’ve been hitting up the Wilson’s Super Menthol…I guess that makes the O&G seem less menthol-y when I go back to it. I’m a menthol fan either way, but O&G is my go-to guy.

I love to back up my Bruton with a hit of O&G.

yeah sp and menthol is awesome. Makes it kind of sweeter and more citrusy but in a really unique unnatural way.

I like to use Hedges as a mixer, the stuffs so strong the smallest amount will add menthol to a mix

I’ll go against the crowd and say that O&G isn’t outstanding. Just another mentholated snuff. Much prefer GH CM. I really liked Sturco as well but I think its only available in bulk and the minor tins. Of course, if my morning doesn’t start the L260 way, its not a fit day. I’m not saying its bad, because its not, its just over-hyped.

I think people like it because its really only a moderate menthol dose. Most other English medicateds have much more menthol. ^^Sturco has to be one of the most viscous. I much prefer the flavor of JIP to O&G, but the menthol in that one is pretty hefty too, though its good in small doses Most of Wilsons have too much as well, and they have even less menthol than many. GH CM is a good one for sure. Actually, the Toque ones don’t have over the top enough menthol but there are not many varieties, and I would think they would do a few more. A Camphor-Menthol Toque or even a straight camphor Toque would be interesting to see.

I too would love to see a CM toque, with the M on the moderate side. I love O&G but also use GH CM and SG Zip. I tend to only really appreciate a Hedges style blast when I have a cold.

I’ll try this with Tom Buck when my next large tin arrives. My mix will be 10 pinches of tom buck, and 1 each of O&G and hedges L260.

Yes - if I want to appreciate what a cold is like, a pinch of L260 will certainly remind me… Never tried O&G because of the ‘M’ word, but I do like GH C&M, easy to take and doesn’t bung me up. Maybe it’s camphor that my nose gets on with. Is O&G more camphor than menthol, perhaps? Are any other snuffs camphorated as opposed to mentholated?

Toque’s Camphor & Clove is fantastic. Gives a nice warm, numbing sensation. I don’t know if it’s more due to the camphor or the clove. Definitely my favorite bedtime snuff, tho.

GH CM is just as good.

Although when initially taken, I tend to agree, the scent is very similar. However a few moments later, there is (to me at least) a big difference between the base tobacco’s. Where CM is more ‘floral’ so to say and the O&G is more ‘biscuit’-like. I much more prefer the latter and almost always reach for the O&G instead of the CM.

This is an interesting snuff.  I took two piles to my nostrils then sat back but nothing good came from it, just a weird toothpaste texture in my nose.  I waited a few minutes, blew my nose then decided to give it another go.  This time I experienced the subtle complexity of O&G and now, a surprising nicotine kick

I like it.  I’m glad I tried Hedges L260 earlier as my first mentholated snuff and I think I prefer it but I still have a couple other snuffs to try

McChrystal’s O&G is quite good, in my humble opinion.  I think what I like about it is that it isn’t taxing on my nose.  The camphor seems to add to the flavor rather than take anything away from what it’s meant to be.  I’ve read about citrus being present although I can’t detect any unless I don’t know what to smell for.  I think I get cardamom or cinnamon, maybe another spice too.  That and of course a menthol that’s strong enough to satisfy without irritating my nose

I definitely notice a difference in the 21g tins.  It’s fresh and has a nice tobacco consistency.  Lastly, the nicotine seems to be about medium high, but I can take quite a bit and it certainly wakes me up

I’ve just ordered ten 21g tins because it was better priced for me but I normally get a 200g tub.  I’ve gone through two since my last post.  I think the tub is the freshest snuff but I’ll see if it’s all in my head as I can’t remember what the 21g tin is like.  I’m definitely addicted to this snuff.  Not in a bad way.  It’s just so refreshing and easy to use all day for me

This was my go-to, all day snuff for several years but alas all good things.

Perhaps I overdid it, but now O&G (and every other menthol snuff) stuffs me up for hours after the smallest pinch. Tried a break of several months, new tins, different mentholated brands, but no luck. How I miss my old O&G! Such a perfect texture, moisture level, nic hit, tin and nose scent. Haven’t been able to find an all-day replacement since.
