I’ve just now opened up a fresh tin (medium size) of McChrystal’s O&G. Normally these tins are filled to capacity and more; one always have to be careful when taking off the lid for the first time. The tin which I’ve opened now is only just over half filled!! It was sealed as normal with the cellophane paper which I had to cut off. So, it came like that from the mill. Anyone else had that experience?

Snuff like the O&G are pretty moist & fluffy when they are filled. As they sit & moved around during shipping etc. THat fluffy snuff kind of packs & settles down as time goes on. But my experience with McChrystals is that they are generally only 3/4 full when I open them.

I just received one large tin from my smoking shop and is partially filled as Ixskllr said !! by the way its good stuff!! How many grams in the large tin , does anyone know?

I’m drooling with anticipation. My first tin of this highly touted mix is somewhere in transit to my house as I type.

McChrystals O&O comes in 3 sizes, small, about 5g, medium, about 10g and large, about 25g. Whenever I opened one of these tins, it was filled to overflowing. I’m pretty sure of that. Wilsons is not available in SA, so I’m not mistaken about that. But, be it as it may, I’m beginning to like this snuff more and more. It’s so soft on my nose, unlike other menthols. I take it first thing in the morning and when I go to bed. Alpha and Omega

Hooray! Got my first tin of O&G today. I love menthol so its a big hit with me. Reminds me a lot of the WoS Menthol Plus tho I have to say I prefer the WoS slightly more. WoS has that sweetness to it that I can’t quite place. Anyway, I am loving the O&G and doubt the can will last through the week. Glad I gave it a try.

I am not a menthol fanatic but i can t keep my nose far from O&G, Good menthol kick , and you can smell the tobacco and a sweet note that i am not sure what can be!

As a follow up, I had occasion to acquire another tin of this. Seems a small uptown cigar shop here in Dallas carries the O&G in the small 3.5g tins. I couldn’t resist and bought one of the overpriced tins even tho I could tell it was rather aged. The plastic wrapping had turned brown. Inside, the snuff had dried to a fine powder consistency. It still had the same strength and taste as the fresh tin I had recently bought via the web but I just had to know how different it would be. The fresh one is much better IMO so I dumped the old tin in with the new one to rehydrate it a bit. Still holds its potency and flavor although I do experience some clogging and sneezing after using it a couple of times. Ironically, I have to use a Poschl blend to unclog my sinuses. Guess everyone reacts differently to various snuffs in that regard. Nevertheless, I enjoy the O&G and consider it a great blend. Two thumbs up to an enjoyable menthol blend. One more thing as an afterthought. The old and dried tin had considerably more settling in it as opposed to the fresher tin. Guessing that the moisture content of O&G is rather high and the age and handling could account for the settling qualitites as addressed in previous posts here.

I bought a large (25g) tin Of McChrystal’s O&G today and…filled to capacity!!! This is the only decent snuff I can buy locally and at a very good price, R32.00. That is equal to £2.06 or $3.20.

I’ve bought several tins of O&G, all different sizes and all were filled to the brim.

I’ve had problems with partially-filled tins only with F&T.

I’ll weight out the next can I buy to make sure but I bought the 20 something gram tin (was completly full)so it may take a while . O&g is a little on the moister side of things so that would not look like as much as alot of wos or touque snuffs. Either way it a small price to pay for such a large reward. This stuff stole me away from ciggerettes so fast it would make ur head spin. When I first started snuffing I didn’t want nothing but o&g. Now I love others just as much but it holds a place in my heart and IMO the greatest all around menthol snuff . It’s strong smooth and forgiving ,its rich and satysfing and a pleasure to use all day long ,and it’s one of the only ones that I need a back up supply all the time and have to reorder before it’s finished.

Some blends are more moist, therefore weighing more.

I just got an extra large tin of McChrystals SP today and it was full to overflowing.

Mine was overflowing too, until I let a friend try it.

The Large tin is a 10 g tin with 8,75 grams in it and the extra large tin is a 25g tin with 21 grams in it.

correction then, I ordered an Xlarge tin of SP that was overflowing. I even used a business card to try to flatten it down a little, but it was full up.

I just received my order of O&G for the first time and I must confess it is the best of it’s type that I have had. I’m ordering more, too.

McChrystal’s O&G is so popular it CAN’T be that good, can it? Actually, yes it is that good.

Make sure you try Hedges L260 if you love the O&G.

Everybody complains about not being able to buy Hedges in bulk, but I wonder how many people go through a 25 gram tin in 6 months? On the other hand, with O&G, you really should keep a 200 gram tub around.

It takes me around three months to deplete a 25g tin of Hedges. I really love the stuff, plus I am apparently one of those people for whom menthol presents no nasal problems whatsoever. In December I bought a large tin of McChrystal’s Apricot that turned out to be not even half-filled. That is just as well, as I quickly discovered that I really dislike apricot-flavored snuff. I strongly suspect that this tin will forever remain half full.

That’s a lot of Hedges! I have a vial I filled up a couple of weeks ago that’s still about half full. Lately I’ve taken to WoS SM 500 when I want a real burn. I just took a small pinch of Hedges and it definitely made my eyes water, but the SM 500 really makes me cry. Actually, the Hedges does seem to have more of a burn, but there’s something about the Menthol in SM 500 that just blows me away. I do love so-called “medicated” snuffs, and am trying to make the rounds. McC Supermint and JIP are in my next purchase, and I have a bunch of GH Camphor Menthol on the way (along with another tin of Hedges).

I’m also about two-thirds of the way through a 25g tin of J.H. Wilson Medicated No. 99 that I bought back in December. Although it is not a menthol or what I would call a “medicated” snuff, Toque Peppermint is out of this world!

I find the English menthol snuffs too strong in the menthol dept, and lead me to congestion city. I like the slight underlie of menthol used in the traditional Indian made snuffs. Also the Dholakia Medicated is a good amount.

I had the same experience with McCrystals Hops snuff…the tin, factory wrapped, was obviously less full than the same sized tin of O&G. But given the different grind and moisture characteristics, I just figured that they both amounted to the same net weight…8.75 g

I get through a 25g tin of Hedges every month - I take it every morning! A 200g tub of O&G lasts a year.

I buy O&G in the 12 x XL boxes that they sell on MSS and elsewhere. 12 XL tins lasts me about 4 months. For 12 tins oots about £32 for 242g, so a bit dearer than 200g in bulk, but better seen as you get the tins. Stefan

I love O&G, but for the life of me I can’t tell the difference between O&G and Highland Ice.
