This is, for me, one of the nicest lemon flavoured snuffs available yet it seems as if it’s not very popular amongst our members. I can, and do, use this snuff all day long because it’s like an SP to me. It’s soft on the nose, easy to take and the lemon flavour is “just right”. The feel of the snuff is silky between the fingers and the aroma lingers for quite a while. It has become one of my daily favourites and is one of my top 5 snuffs.
Never got on with it myself. Do like the aroma but a touch too dry for me
It’s a tad too harsh for me. I much prefer Wilsons Lemon Grove.
I like the McChrystals better than the Lemon Grove because it is more lemony, but I am waiting for hot weather to do either (and I have both in the fridge). To me, they are summer scents. Of course Pieter is just finishing his summer so he has been using summer scents for a while now.
I like Mild Lemon and Wilsons Lemon Grove. Pity McC’s red containers are not airtight, my last one I ordered wasn’t even snufftight as there was Mild Lemon loose inside the jiffy bag.
If you have some Gawith Hoggarth Dry Orange to hand, try a equal mix of both Dry Orange and Mild Lemon. Nice Orange & Lemon Snuff.
Thanks Snuff Head. Sounds good.
@ Nachman, your welcome.
@ Snuff Head, I still have a 25g (?) tin of of Mild Lemon in use and when that’s depleted, I will open a 200g tub which I’ve received recently. I’ve had the same problem with another McC’s red container where a lot of snuff leaked into the jiffy bag. I won’t order anymore of those rubbish.
I love it as well! Lemon Grove is also excellent, so I will not choose between the two. They are both different enough to keep on hand if you are a citrus scent lover. I think both are on my Bulk Purchase Dream List. My Mild Lemon was in a round tin, and not leaky. Its as good as a Wilson’s tin. I would recommend avoiding the red boxes also. I like your recipe, Snuff Head. I will have to try it. I’m low on Dry Orange though.
Thanks Pieter & Xander. I’ve just tried another mix of Dry Orange & Lemon Grove, and that’s very nice too. Again mixed equal.
Snuff Head, I think once upon a time GH made a Dry Lemon. I wonder if it was any good.
I have a 200 g tub of Mild Lemon in storage, another 200 g tub on the way, and five little 4.4 gram tins I use as snuff boxes (I love the little McChrystals tins). And I’ll probably buy another tub just to be on the safe side. I really love it.
This is one of my favorites, great lemon hit, almost too much if one is careless, but so refreshing. I too have stocked up, except I am beginning to wonder if I am actually allergic to it, just makes my nose run, then stops up. Been trying to over come this problem for a week now. Great snuff and would be a great loss if I have to give it up.
@ LHB: and I thought cstokes was bad about his Grand Cairo. Mild Lemon is excellent, but sadly it does not enable one to fold space.
@ Xander You are quite right. But I’ve been importing space into my otherwise modest domicile by buying several jars every week. Each jar has a volume of about 120 cubic inches. If you can’t afford a bigger dwelling, just import more space into your existing one!
Agree. Mild Lemon is the best citrus snuff, hands down. I also find it very “SP-like” and can use it all day.
Mild Lemon is one of my favorites. I recently ordered a 200g tub of it. I actually like it better then Best SP. One of the mixes I’ve done with is with Swishers Honey Bee.
Mild Lemon and Anisette are my all time favorite McChrystal’s. They are definately permanent selections in my Top 10 Snuff Classics. So no one knows if this is an old tin or not?
how is the snuff in it? Looks like an old tin indeed!
It looks collectable snuff_noob. Never seen one like that either.
It’s so old it predates the British Letter-Swivelling Revolution of 1594.
And they even knew tobacco can damage your health in 1594. Just like the Romans knew asbestos could in the years B.C.
in view of the health warning, its not that old. i’m wondering whether this might actually be a new label?
I haven’t actually opened it yet, so no clue of what condition its in. It was the only tin of it they had and I had never seen a tin like it before, so I bought it.
I’ve seen a picture somewhere of a tin like that or was that a dream. I really swear I have. I think the sticker would be the easiest thing to change. They may even have added their own sticker to the snuff as in the place you bought it. What I like about your pick is it looks sinister. Like your an undercover cop nubb whos document what you found on a suspect. And will be laughed at by the older cops. It’s really the lighting though that does that and your serious expression. I say open and see how it is and give us a full report cause I’am curious too. Sure at the most a month and a half roughly someone will give us a straight answer.
I bought a tin of Wilson’s SM recently with the same red label. The contents was still fresh, surely not an old tin.
That looks a lot like the tin of SP Silver I just got from ermtony. I just picked it up and realized that the health warning using the the current verbiage is a sticker which peels off. It looks like that one underneath.
So it seems as if this is just an outdated sticker and the snuff inside should still be good?
No, mine had a modern UK warning label (THIS TOBACCO PRODUCT CAN DAMAGE…etc) over the simplistic warning print (Tobacco Seriously damages etc, etc) that yours had. My sticker actually covered the part from where it says ‘Sharow Mills’…straight to the bottom. When peeled away, it looks like yours. Yours appears to have a sticker for the name of the snuff only. Presumably at one time it was more economical for them to print universal stickers for all tins, and then slap a sticker on it to label the name of the snuff. My label is the right way around though, lol. I’d be curious to know what is beneath your name sticker. In either case, if the tape band around the tin’s seam is tight, the snuff should be fine. I opened this SP snuff a few days ago and it was very fresh smelling. I’ve even had a few tins that were much older and still seemed fresh. Of course I’ve also had some that were completely dried out and scentless, or had corroded the tin from within. Older tins seem to be hit and miss, if any air is getting in at all, then all bets are off. Let us know what you find.
Ermtony has a nice picture of the one I have HEREThe white part peels away revealing a label similar to yours.
Well the sticker is one complete sticker, and the metal underneath appears to be blank metal. The sticker is actually on the correct way, my built-in camera on my MacBook doesn’t do the whole “mirror correction” thing, which is why it looks reversed. I opened it and it seems rather dry, still has a lemon scent to it, similar to McC’s Mild Lemon, but it also has a “dirty/dusty” scent to it. Not sure if thats what its supposed to be like, as I’ve never had Lemon Grove before.
Well, it sounds like it might have dried out then. I have had a few that had that scent you describe. If you like it well enough, then snuff it up. If you don’t like it, please don’t write off Lemon Grove until you try a fresh tin, as its really a great snuff. At worst, you have a little piece of history and perhaps a collector’s item. Plenty of folks collect old tins. There is a huge image gallery of them on the yahoo snuff group. I’m just teasing about the label. I thought the reverse image was kind of amusing.
Its good enough to finish, its only a 5g, and I do get a “lemon grove” vibe from it. I can image walking into a lemon orchard, smelling the lemon trees and soil lol.
McChrystals Mild Lemon has become my “take to the island” snuff which means it is my #1 favourite.
Mild Lemon is unbeatable! I’d only rank it behind getting an unexpectedly large amount of money in the post, or maybe sex. But seriously, it is THAT good.
I’ve got a 250g drum of ML
