McChrystal's Anisette Review (my first snuff review)

When I first looked into our wonderful pastime of snuffing I was doing a lot of reading . When I discovered that Licorice/Anise flavoured snuffs were available I new I had to try one. Today my shipment of McChrystal’s(USA) snuff came and was so happy to try an Anise flavored snuff. Now while I cannot compare this to other snuffs with an anise or licorice scent, I can tell you what it was for me, as a new snuffer, to try this product.

Right when I  opened the lid off the tin the smell enticed me. it was sweet, floral and deep with overtones of honey. A medium brown colour with clumps that when prodded  with the tip if the back of the nail clipper smoothed out in a  creamy way. Although I’ve yet to get the pinch technique down to any degree I couldn’t help plunk my fingers into that sweet moist  tobacco.

I admit, in my over-eagerness I sniffed too hard when bringing my fingers to my nose and the snuff immediately hit my sinus. :frowning: However, it didn’t burn and after coughing a little proceeded to try again. This time I used the back of a nail clipper to take a small pile of snuff and bring it to my nose.  ( I haven’t a snuff spoon.)

I took a small whiff and immediately the aroma told me I was in for a treat. Upon snuffing it off the back of the nail clipper my nose was full of deep, sweet notes of pure licorice, just as I had hoped it would be. The scent was a much deeper experience of the tin notes and the floral quality was wondrous and I found the experience intoxicating.

The snuff was neither drying to the nose nor did it make it run. It had no burn but rather had a gentle tingle to it , as the delicious aroma made its way through my whole sinus,  I immediately decanted over half the contents of  into a tap box and repeated the experiment with my other nostril with the same effect…

This snuff for me is easy to take, and for a beginner, I think that’s saying a lot. Of the few snuffs I’ve tried this one was the one that immediately identified itself to me as an all-day snuff.

Again I’ve only been snuffing for three days as of this post and haven’t tried any other anise or licorice flavoured snuffs, But I definitely can say I will be stocking up on this one as it makes my nose VERY happy.

Well that’s all for now. This is my first try at reviewing a snuff so please let me know if there are any other notes i should add to this.

Happy Snuffing! B-)

if you like anise, youll probably like the Toque Absinthe. Its a bit more of a complicated scent but the licorice is there in spades. Its a bit more fine than McC but medium moist and i find it easy to take with a velvety texture. I like black licorice sweets a lot but i found i dont care for it much in snuff very much. Its just a bit of a heavy scent that totally eclipses the tobacco, but lots of people love it. im glad you found one straight off that you adore. It took me awhile to find one like that. But remember well when i did. That was Queens (or Tom Buck). Nice job with your review. Cheers!

Probably going to throw this on my next snuff order, I love licorice. Nice review!
