Just wanted to let you know that I am enjoying O&G since some days now. The hot weather makes me demand rather the fresh type of snuff then the heavy ones.
My very favorite snuff is OG, I go through a large tin a week. Just out of curiousity how did you contact McChrystals phil? The email link on the website always returns my emails as undelivered. Does anyone have an email for them that works? Also, can anyone verify that the Highland Ice is the same as the OG? I have been curious about that snuff as well. Not sure what the exact thing about the OG that makes it the perfect snuff for me, but it has been my main snuff for a long time now, would love to know that recipe.
I also pretty much stick with O&G these days. Like BigSnoot, I get through a large tin each week. Some times more! Occasionally I dip into some Bordeaux or Seville to mix it up. My latest bad habit is cigars and love nothing more than having a couple of draws on a cigar then having a pinch of O&G. I am sure its not good for me…
i think highland ice is different from the o&g. highland ice has another mixture of menthol aromas and feels cooler then the o&g. and it is less complex, lacking the depth in tobacco flavour but making that up with a “freshness” i can not really explain. i like highland ice better then the o&g.
O&G is definately my choice snuff. I can use it all day, every day and not get tired of it. The menthol definitely has a nice little kick, but nothing like Red Bull or so. Definitely my favorite. ~Snuffy
If you don’t mind menthol then O&G is the most universal snuff you will never be tired of.
Im suffering from a common cold at present. Last night I could not sleep due to a blocked nose which the normal cold medicine could not clear. At 4am I got up and “stuffed” my nose with O&G. The result was unreal. Within seconds I was able to breathe through my nose again and I slept until 7am without any further problem!!
Pieter, I’m a great fan of O&G but I think Hedges L260 it even better when you get blocked up.
All this talk of O&G made me take a pinch. This tin is over a year old, but still tastes very fresh. I’m just not much of a menthol fan, but I do like the O&G.
I saw this thread revived earlier and have been taking O&G all night…I really need to order one of those tubs I saw on that one web site awhile back.
I love O&G. For me, it’s the perfect grind and moisture. I enjoy drier/finer snuffs, but when I’m “on the go” they take a little too much care to sniff properly. I enjoy coarser/moister snuffs too, but again, “on the go” they require more frequent nose blowing. For me, O&G is just right. It’s also my favorite blend. (flavor?) IT does come at a price though. 1) The '10gr" size costs more than many other snuffs. 2) This is compounded by the fact that the tin only comes with 8.75grs in it. (BUT, you can open a fresh one without spilling it) 3) It suits me so well, I take much bigger pinches. 4) It doesn’t last as long, because I frequently use it “out of rotation” (just can’t wait for it’s “turn”) 5) All this combines to make it more expensive than I think it is. 6) I DON’T CARE! I love the stuff, I’ll pay whatever they want! Cheers, Java
O&G was my first ever snuff that I tried. I went completely off it and even hated it when I discovered Wilsons SP100 and Toque Original, but over the last 4 days I’ve given O&G a second chance and I’ve gone through a large tin already! I’m now falling back in love with the snuff that made me fall in love with snuff! Stefan
I never tried , but i ordered a large tin among a bunch of snuffs from my smoking shop so lets see if a can handle this because i am not a strong menthol lover
Just be careful on Hull docks then
We have a large snuffing population in Hull, perhaps it was to get rid of the fishy smell that the city once had. But as far as I know there is only two members from here on this forum. ermtony and myself. But beware we could have lurkers, lol.
I’m running low on the ol’ O&G myself. Other the mentholated blends I’ve tried, I like it the best. Right now I’m debating between more O&G or ordering some Toque. Toque is the best deal (free shipping; to the US I usually pay more for shipping than I do snuff!), but I know O&G is good. Opinions?
Have you tried any Toque yet? Trying new flavors is half the fun to me. I like the Toque menthol a lot. O & G is so different from Toque menthol, they don’t even compete with each other.
Another advantage of carrying a tin of O&G with you is you can safely offer a pinch to people, it is so easy to take with simple instructions. Can’t do that with many snuffs.
Just opened my first tin of O&G. It’s pretty nice but i think McC’s Jip is better. is there a little citrus in O&G or do i just smell something else in this snuff…
@dm_lasse maybe it’s the camphor.
I love it, but nothing gives me rebound sinus blockage like O&G for some reason.
@dm_lasse That’s the general consensus. It has the tradtional medicated ingredients (menthol, camphor, eucalyptus) but also something citrusy probably bergamot. I agree JIP is better, but I know that’s a minority opinion. O&G has less menthol than JIP too.
I found o&g q bit camphor heavy for my tastes.
When it comes to that perfect hit, nothing has ever come as close as O&G. I’m thankful that the perfect hit doesn’t occur more than a few times a week, otherwise I might not ever do anything else, including work.
OG’s camphor is just perfect for me but my new friend Gawith Hoggarth’s CM is very close to the OG and there is a bonus, it’s container is just very handy to use. no need to play with bullets. heard it can be dangerous ;,P
@hooked what do you think about CM being a close relative to OG?
It’s fairly close, but not quite. I just took some down and realized I’ve always pinched the CM out of the container, using a spoon improved the reception.
I’ve been on a snuff mission to find O&G’s equal, more affordable and available in bulk, but the mission is not done.
I love Cm and find O.g. gross. It’s something I imagine most people can’t smell (our sense of smell is actualy shockingly individual and no two people do smell the same things.)
@hooked - I find a 50:50 mix of WoS SM Blue and Tom Buck or Best SP to be a reasonable approximation, though certainly not identical. It works out quite a bit cheaper than O&G too.
I love O&G and mix it 50-50 with Tom Buck or another strong SP as my regular snuff.
Thanks @erntony, the SM Blue and Tom Buck, is pretty dang close. And I’ve had em in the pantry all along!
O&G was nothing special to me, and it was kind of dissapointing since so many people advocate it, but I still like to have some every now and then
and to my nose smbluck is nothing like o.g… Again with noses being unique.
My olfactories must be different as well. I liked O&G occasionally, now it’s too much camphor for me. Also I never got even a hint of citrus from O&G.
