I cut up coffee filters and made Makla Rouge into portions. It is so much better. The Rouge kinda tastes awful and it burns my tongue by itself. It is a little lighter in nicotine, but now I can get past the taste. I know this is a snuff forum, but I ordered a bunch of Makla from Mr. Snuff and I didn’t know what to do with it. I love the buzz, it tastes like metal not tobacco.
that scares me. Which type of metal? glam, death, black, operatic, etc…
My brother’s wife actually did that too with Makla Ifrikia I gave them. She likes snuff and loose snus, my brother cigarettes and portion snus.
Bob- It tastes like hair metal haha!. It tastes like iron or something.
So the Makla is a Los snus as opposed to snuff? Glad I avoided it then since I only very rarely use snus and haven’t really found one I like enough to start using it regularly. Now if the taste was that of Progressive melodic death metal instead of hair metal…
Haha. Makla makes a snuff. It is called Neffa Ifrika. I bought that one too, but I haven’t tried it yet. Makla has the most nicotine out of any of the snus/dip I have used. It is the only reason I still use it. I’ve heard good things about the snuff though. I’ll probably make a post after i try the snuff
I’m looking forward to hearing what you think of the snuff, as I’ve been considering trying it myself. It just hasn’t made it to the top of my wish list yet.
Actually technicaly speaking, Sifaco is the maker of both Neffa Ifirika the snuff and the other products which are all maklas. Makla is not snus, it is Makla. It is however used in a similar fashion to snus. Pöschl even makes a few maklas, which I have tried, thanks to one of our generous members here.
I didn’t realize. Thanks for pointing that out. I would definitely be open to trying a Poeschl Makla.
Interesting. Xander you are quite the knowledgeable chap! I didn’t know Makla was an entity unto itself nor did I know Poschl has makla. I likewise have no idea how you got the umlauts over your “o” in Poschl! All that being said though I wouldn’t mind trying the Neffa Ifirika makla since it’s snuffable. I may look into that one.
Its just stuff I pick up from being around here so long. ALT 148 (the 148 on the keypad not the keyboard) yeilds an ö
Now, revisiting maklas, I like them much more than last time. Of the two I have, Makla Bouhlel Bentchicou Rouge has nicer grind and flavour but is too strong for regular use so I combine it with Makla Ifrikia. All other common types of oral tobacco seem quite girly now, makla is for real men!
ööhhh that is neat.
To be honest, Makla tins are really cute, even effeminately beautiful so it kind of balances manly brutalism of contents. I’d give all possible design awards for Makla tins.
Found another Makla today, called Makla el hilal, which is an Algerian product. It is sold in simple 20g foil pouches. First impression is very good, texture is more like coarse snus, that might be due packaging, not paste like Befaco maklas and more tobacco flavour with superb nic hit. Recommended!
sounds good
@bob It is good and pouch also has packaging date and best before date. Contrast to rusty tin of Ifrikia, which I also purchased, couldn’t be clearer. Fair enough for Algerian makla manufacturers.
Can someone tell me who uses Makla in Europe? Is it immigrants from North Africa or something?
I love Makla. Took me a while to adjust to the feeling of having mud in my mouth, but the nic hit is something else.
Is chema the same as makla? I ran across it this summer while traveling in Italy. I got the mint. Remember the Nic being mild, smelled like double mint chewing gum and was like clay in the can.
