Making my own snuff is the only way for me to enjoy snuff. There is no seller in my country. Mr Snuff wont ship to my address.
And recently my friend’s order from Toque had been confiscated by custom.
There are no way for me to get raw tobacco leaf.

Last month ,I make my own snuff using Erinmore flake. It taste ok.

My question is, I really love HDT. What are the closest pipe tobacco blend that I can use to replicate HDT?

Hey there,

I’m sorry I can’t be of much help. I don’t know much concerning pipe tobacco. However, it’s sad that you are having such a hard time getting snuff delivered to you. I simply wanted to wish you well and I hope someone will be able to help.

Good day to you @zack

I believe HDT uses a lot of Burley. If you can get a reasonably pure blend of Burley pipe tobacco I’d try that. Something like Brown Irish Twist or Gawith and Hoggarth Burley blend. You might be able to get some additional toasty flavors from roasting blend in an oven on a low setting. Let us know if you can get those pipe blends and if you try them how they turn out.

They won’t ship to your address? That’s rough, where do you live?

Pur Semois by Vincent Manil comes to mind. Not a facsimile, by any means, but this pipe tobacco is slightly toasted and blended without any flavourings. If you have any at hand, give it a whirl. Use 150 micron sieve, thoroughly mix dry flour with 1% calcium hydroxide and moisten this dry mixture with 12% water with 4% sodium carbonate dissolved in it.

Hmm, I haven’t tried making snuff from pipe tobacco. Cigarette tobacco might work, but it’s hard to find decent quality. What about cigars? Grinding cigars is a great idea that’s been discussed on this forum before. The results are truly excellent!
