Magnet Menthol disappeared?

Hi, I’m a new poster to this forum (although I have been lurking for quite some time). I’ve introduced myself in the introduction thread, in case you’re interested. Does anyone know what’s happened to Magnet Menthol? I can’t seem to find it in any of the online shops. This is a pity, since it’s definitely my favourite menthol or the only menthol I can say I honestly like. Partly because of the nic hit, but also for the very unique aroma and the pleasant fine grind, which doesn’t suffer from the dryness. Has it been discontinued by Swedish Match? If it has, can anyone point me to a good alternative?

I tried a search and wasn’t able to turn up a vendor. No clue on if its discontinued. I read something about a manufacturer who pulled out of the USA market and brands were dropped. I don’t recall the name of the manufacturer. I’m new here also, most likely one of the regulars will be able to help.

For some reason… don’t quote me on this… but I could have sworn I read something about this snuff being discontinued??? I’m sure xander will chime in…

Who me? I think Magnet Peach was discontinued. Look in some of the Swiss online shops. I’ll look for some links later. They had it last time I looked. Also I think Estatepipes.de has it on clearance. Better still, perhaps our resident South African snuff expert will chime in. He sent me a sample of Magnet Menthol some time back. I don’t remember being impressed, but I haven’t pulled it out in awhile. It was way better than the horrid Peach one though. Also I think Swedish Match sold Magnet (and all the Leonard Dingler brands) to Altria a couple years ago. That’s absolutley everything I know about it. Mostly its guesses.

Hmmm maybe it was the Peach- I just know I heard of a discontinued Magnet snuff at some point…

I’ve looked all over (bored at work)… not finding any information on it.

Magnet Menthol is alive and well, available at our local M&B. Magnet Peach “disappeared” about 18 months ago. Nobody wants to say it was discontinued, only “not available at the moment”. It’s a pity because I loved it.

I havent tried any of the menthol south african snuffs, but for quality and taste i love ntsu and taxi both. I would try the mentol from those guy’s and see what you think if you havent before.

@PieterClaassen I have purchased Magnet Peach from http://www.snuffstore.co.uk/ a month or two ago. It’s my current morning snuff, combined with Taxi Red (your invention, right? :). And it is still available from their store.

Three shops in Switzlerland have it on their sites: http://www.zigi.ch/index.php?list=WG35 http://zigi.kiosk-marktplatz.ch/shop/USER\_ARTIKEL\_HANDLING\_AUFRUF.php?darstellen=1&Kategorie\_ID=81&kat\_aktiv=81&PEPPERSESS=10825f485379dd74777950ada798d2a2 http://www.schnupftabak.ch/web/index.php?page=categorie&cat=1&x5bded=9c1f5c3043905566d2d90565cc2b48e7 Ask them before ordering if they have it in stock. I don’t know anyone who’s shopped at either place.

Actually some pretty interesting snuff on those sites, Xander. I can’t recall seeing Covent Keen Scented on sale at any of the other retailers. I may have to put in an order just to get some of the oddities.

@shikitohno Covent Keen Scented is simply one of Mullins and Westley snuffs. Covent Snuff is their snuff brand, since they are based in Covent Garden in London. Keen Scented happens to be their medicated one. M&W (Covent) snuffs are not quite as hard to get. Their shop is called Davy’s Segar & Snuff Parlour. It has a website, which you can order from if you are able (probably no US orders): http://www.davy.co.uk/CigarAndSnuff.php?menuid=4 Curiously they only carry their main four brands, but the shop itself is reported to have a monthly rotating Dealer’s Special (rotates between Emerald Mocha, Rumba, Covent Rose and Citrus Delight). This is the only place in the UK to get these as far as I know. Snuffstore.de stocks all eight varieties (4 standrd and 4 specials), but does not always have them all in stock. Best bet for US residents? Don’t order from Switzerland or Germany. Find a friend in London area to pick a few up for you. The Trade thread awaits requests! As for the other snuffs on those sites, yes, some odd ones indeed, at least to our Anglo-centric discussions and commerce here. One I think is from the Swiss or French tobacco monopoly (Pasquale Mentolino) another I think is from the Italian state monopoly (La Nazionale Mentopin) but I’m not sure. Filek knows these a lot better than me, and we do have a few Swiss and Italian members here who know better also. Perhaps one of them will shed some light on that. A few others are odd ones from Pöshl, like Ozona Anis, which is only distributed in France and Switzerland last I heard. Also Mac Cartney & Mac Craig (not Mac Craig Royal). I know nothing about Mac Craig, but I heard that Mac Cartney was discontinued. Perhaps not in Switzerland. If you do make an order to Switzerland for some oddites, check first to see if everything is in stock, and if they will ship here. You may also want to arrange a group buy, as others are probably interested.

@Xander, thanks for the links. Alas, I live in a country with very strict import policies. Basically, everything is forbidden, except for what the EU explicitly forces my country to allow. In other words, I’d rather not order from outside the EU, since it’s an incredible hassle. At the very least, I’ll have to show written proof of the price and pay toll PLUS a draconian tax PLUS VAT. Perhaps contacting the UK webshops might help me…

@Snusmumriken, what about a friend sending you some gifts?

@Xander Just a quick note regarding 2 of those oddites: Mac Cartney: Yes Im quite sure it was discontinued but my local shop still has some tins floating around. I tried it and its a pöschel copy of McCrystal OG. But a bad copy, just a ton of menthol really. The ozona anis on the other hand is quite good, if you like anise that is also some menthol in there if course. I can get it locally too.

@Goldenboy Thanks for the info. A kind friend sent me a tin of the Ozona Anis, so far its the only mentholated Pöschl that I would get again. Its a good one. I don’t understand why they limit its market. I figured as much regarding the MacCartney, even the logo looks like McChrystals. That new MacCraig one does too.
