I smoked my last cigarette in my possession last night. I woke up this morning, had 4-5 toots of Quit. panicked. had some Musinotabak, then some more Quit. I have now gone 24 hours without a smoke. The urge hurt someone still comes and goes, but is manageable with snuff. I think I may have licked the devil finally.
Snuffrider, do you like snus at all? That will certainly help.
YOU CAN DO IT!!!
Once you beat BeelzeBubba PHYSICALLY, you must be prepared for the MENTAL attack of withdraws… but yes, it can be done…congrats in advance!!
@ Bipolar…yes, I’ve used it. however, it tends to burn my throat, even though you can supposedly swallow the juice. I may have to learn to get over that though. “Quitting smoking is easy, I’ve done it a thousand times.”…Unknown.
In my experience, if you can hang in for another two weeks, you’ll be an ex- smoker. Snuff might get better for you, too
the quitting smoking quote is by mark twain its in a funny little book i have called the smokers addictionary from the early 1980s
Good luck, I’m sure you can do it. Mind>Matter, don’t give in.
RIGHT ON!! If I can do it so can you! McChrystals S’nuff works wonders!
Quitting smoking is like re-learning how to live your life. I’m 22 and I started smoking at 12 years of age, my entire life revolved around cigarettes. Switched to RYO’s, quit for a year, got put in a bad place and started again, quit for 4 months, then I started smoking Black&Mild Wine flavor Woodtips and i still woke up coughing every day. I took the jump to snuff a few days ago and I’m not looking back. I wake up feeling fine, I don’t cough up a lung when I wake up either. Being addicted to the actual ACTION of smoking has been the hardest thing to overcome for me personally. Now I might take the occasional hit off of a cig at the pub, but I’m not smoking a pack or two a day like i used to.Best of luck to you!
Snuff and the actual “want” to quit smoking is all you need. My 20 year habit is gone thanks to snuff and wanting to quit. Good luck man.
Its really do-able. I never thought I could knock the smokes on the head but with the smoking ban made the full time switch to snuff and although it was hard to begin with cigarettes are a distant memory now. I tried to quit so many timesw that I still can’t quite believe it but when you get completely used to snuff as your way of taking tobacco the cigarette urge just fades away. Keep on going and it will work out. The classic advice I stuck to and the simplest was to pinch every time things got bad. I also had my own addition to this - which won’t be for everyone but was key to my success - that if I really started to go insane I would allow myself a cigarette. I did, several times, but that safety net kind of pysched me out needing to smoke in the end. I still have that in place because every once in a while, how ever long its been, you can get an overwhelming desire for a cig. It really works for me. Total cigarettes since July 07 - probably less than a pack.
If you are looking to kill the nicoteen craving, try NTSU original (the black container with a yellow lid). Enter NTSU in the search engine at the top of this page to learn more. Irrespective of which snuff you use, allways have it with you. When smokers go out they allways check their pockets for cigaretts and a lighter. Do the same with snuff. If you are caught out “snuffless” the temptation to dive into the nearest cigarette shop will be overwhelming. Now that you have found the joys of snuff you will give up sooner or later. Its just a motter of time.
Yep, 100%
Thanks for the encouragement guys. even though many people have quit before me. It is nice to hear that the struggle is universal, not just in my head. today is day 2 and a new issue has arose. I can only get a few pinches in my nose before Im all caked up. I tend to blow often, but I just plain old want more of it shove up there. might have to start using this dholakia white for the next few days, but holy nosebleed does that stuff burn. I had a freak out this morning, looking for cigarettes, before i turned to Toque Quit and piled it in there. but as I write this, the urge to climb the walls and race across the ceiling Exorcist style is fading. so what do you do when you want more and cant get anymore in there?
Pinch and shove.
Rinse out the nose and start again. Also, use American Scotches like Bruton, Red Seal or Navy. They have lots of nicotine.
I think a lot of times it works for me when having a bad craving to chain pinch a fine strong snuff then when I start to feel a little bit of a buzz to take a big pinch of something more coarse ground to stretch the buzz out. Since the finer grinds tend to hit hard and fast but they don’t tend to last.
@ Bob that’s a good idea. will try it out now. I apparently have a huge tolerance. I get a craving about every 5 minutes. used to be 30 with smokes. but with the cost of snuff, I can pinch every 3-5 minutes all day and still spend less than with cigarettes. so i figure. pinch away, rinse repeat.
@# London Jack:When smokers go out they allways check their pockets for cigaretts and a lighter This drove me nuts for a few days after I quit. I kept thinking I was forgetting something! I carry a bullet and/or a schnifter with my snuffbox as it simulates the pack-o’-smokes and lighter and gives me something fiddle with.
Update… I slipped and had a few smokes over the last day. Having said that, they tasted like 17 different kinds of ass and I couldn’t finish it. So now I’m at the point of, “Why bother with them,” I cant stand the taste compared to my lucky Wos IDHT #20 and Trusty Toque Quit. that’s all, just venting
Dont beat yourself up about a few cigarettes. Be laid back about it. You will make the transfer sooner or later. Snuff gets nicer and ciggies get worse until you dont want them anymore. Get a glass jar and every time you dont buy a pack of cigarettes, put the money in the jar. Take it out and count it occasionaly. Soon you will have a nice pile of dollar bills to get something good. Every time you dont buy ciggies you are denying the government their tax revenue. Saving money and screwing the government at the same time. That feels really great !
I still have the occasional ciggie, too. I’m down to one every 2 or 3 days, but I still light them up. Usually, like you, I end up saying, “Why did I bother?” But considering the fact that I started smoking cigarettes at 15 or 16, and that I’ll be 53 in December, it’s not so unusual that an addiction built up over decades should still be trying to re-establish itself. Most of the time, though, I’m choosing snuff, snus or a pipe. They’re all more satisfying to me. Those last few cravings for cigs are dying out, it’s just taking longer than I’d hoped. When I take the long view, I realize I’m beating them, and I thought that would never happen.
congrats on your leap!!!.. i made the fall yesterday lol after a almost 3 months leap… god i hate cigs but yet i smoked them yesterday all day… dam it and i had snuff too…i didn;’ even enjoyed them so much … i guess i was being too cocky with my snuff made me quit attitude…anywhoo i am back on track and i started this morning right with a good coffee and a healthy shovel of NTSU up my nose… :)…
Just think about how stinky smokers are. That helps a lot for me.
No lie, Bob. I can’t stand it. It is funny how oblivious I was when I smoked. Now I can smell them like a K9 on a kilo.
Seriously. I sometimes find myself thinking I used to smell like that. Another good one is the first time you kiss a smoker after having not smoked for a while. Gives me more respect for some of my exs.
I *know* that I used to smell like that. Amazing how much that crap kills your senses.
It definatly does. I find snuff does the opposite. That since snuffing my sense of smell is much more precise. I don’t know if I’d say stronger but it does seem to make it easier to pick scents apart. Back to smoking it’s always blown my mind how many cooks and chefs I’ve known who smoke.
So many cooks I worked with told me it was gross that I snuffed and also that it would effect my ablity to smell the food properly. Oh well their lose I guess.
What I used to do, way back when I was wanting to quit smoking, before I knew about snuff and snus, was I’d get something I did not like to smoke, be it these little cigars, or some nasty cigar, and when the urge hit me, I’d light up, thinking how terrible this was, and end up putting it out. That really didn’t work so well, as I’d then later just buy some ciggs. What allowed me to quit, relatively easy, was when I met my wife, a non smoker, and eventually moved into her house, from my apartment. The change into a non-smoking environment along with me wanting to quit, made it easy. I did still ocaasionally smoke, but only when out drinking with buddies, but never at the house. Now, I may have an occasional smoke, but only when my smoking buddy visits to drink, and we use the back porch, and I bum off him(it’s usually just one).
I have gone on and off from smoking so many times in the last several years that I have lost count. It just gets to the point that I am no longer enjoying the cigarettes, and I just stop buying them. I’m at the point now where I’ll smoke a couple of cigarettes when I am drinking with my normal gang and use snuff at all other times. This works well for me because it is far less expensive buying a pack of cigarettes (for all of us) a week than going through a carton in 5 days. Plus, now I get to enjoy those few cigarettes even more. Then it’s a seamless transition back to snuff…once I sober up. ~Ken
