A thread for those favourite snuffs which are no longer with us
WoS Irish Coffee
SG Yellow Crest
WoS Thyme and Lemon
Molens Chococreme
Everything Chef Daniel and Old Mill.
de Kralingse-St. Omer n.1
does anyone know something close to it?
Everything Old Mill and de Kralingse:-(
Definitely Old Mill. I’d do a lot for a good supply of Old Mill snuff.
I’ve been away from the forums awhile, haven’t needed to order anything either. Come back to find that WoS has more than decimated their catalogue. Goodbye, Thyme and Lemon, Apple and Blackcurrant, and Rum and Raisin.
I’ve never tried Apple and Blackcurrant, or Rum and Raisin, or several others - and now I don’t kind of want to. I’ve lost enough favourites without making new favourites that have already been discontinued.
That’s the take away for me from all of this. I’m pretty set in my ways but all of this is just reinforcing that tendency. I used to get a couple new tins with my standard orders to see if there were some new favorites hiding out there but now I’m hesitant to do so. I don’t want to find a new favorite that I won’t be able to bulk up on. RIP: WoS Morlaix WoS Strasbourg Molens A/P Molens AO 1860 Also a question. I haven’t seen Gekachelter Virginie on mr. Snuff for some time. Has it also gone the way of the dodo?
^ sadly yes, some one on here emailed them and Bernards has confirmed that Virginie is no longer in production :((
@n9inchnails. Well that ruined my day… luckily I have about 150g in stock but I’m going to have to be careful with it. RIP: Gekachelter Virginie Dunkel
Wow this is an incredibly depressing thread. I only had a chance to try two of the Old Mill snuffs, I hope they can figure out a way to continue making these sometime in the future.
It would be great if the larger snuff makers could buy these recipes so they don’t get lost to history.
No more Virginie?!? Well that’s that then. I’m gonna jump off a cliff. Seriously, what is the world coming to?
Tranter toast #21 RIP
@Alberich I have an unopened 10 Gram tin of rum and raisin if you want it.
oohhh man, they hit me in the Willies Strasbourg,Lemon Toast, OrangeChocolate,Grand Cairo.
@Icepick Check with Mr Snuff. I was able to order some tubs of chocolate orange and Grand Cairo. However, I am hearing Grand Cairo is going to remain.
RIP Blue Crest, Red Crest, Toque Espresso, NB Madras, LAT AO 1860
@Icepick @JosephJames Grand Cairo is still on Wilson’s website too
Grand Cairo is on Wilsons’ revamped website so I think it survived the drawdown.
Originally I think Grand Cairo was on the hit list, but Royal George was to survive. It appears that decision has been reversed
Unfortunate because I like Royal George and Grand Cairo about equally.
I saw the original decision, and bought a half drum of Grand Cairo. Then I saw the decision had been reversed #-o I use the Royal George less often, have a couple of hundred grams of Burgundy stashed away, and the F&T are still available. I’ve also discovered GH Mitchells and Western Glory, and have a couple of other more complex snuffs in the stash. I can cope with only having about 30g of Royal George left, easier than I could with GC.
WoS Strawberry WoS Butterscotch WoS Vanilla
Better add Chocolate Orange and Chocolate Mint to those too :((
De Kralingse Macuba & Prins Regent are ones I’ll miss the most, but Gekachelter(sp?) too. I’m happy about Grand Cairo & Royal George not getting the axe for now, at least. Does anyone know if Brunswick got the axe?
@mrmanos Royal George DID get axed, and unfortunately so did Brunswick. The full list of what remains from WoS can be seen on their website sharrowmills.com Note: They are still working on this new site, and there’s lots of refining still to be done, but the info is there if you’re prepared to poke around a bit
@JosephJames I appreciate the offer, but there’s no sense in prolonging the separation. I’ll let this early termination of my relationship with several WoS blends spur me on to exploring some others that I’ve wanted to try for quite awhile!
Thanks again.
To show how bad a year 2016 was for us snuffers. @50ft_trad reading that is just depressing… as well learning a few of the German snuffs like verginie are gone, SWS saying that their items might be limited editions with the new laws, the upheaval of the Indian economy which could result in supply distrupions… not to mention the announcement that Dunhill is getting out of pipe tobacco - it is a dark time for the tobacco world
Dunhill is getting out of pipe tobacco… goddammit! What the hell is next.
Poschl Grado not that it was a favorite but I liked it. In the world of snus great snus get canceled very often. I understand the reasoning with snuff . Stupid bureaucrats ! So corrupt they care nothing about harm reduction only lining their pockets with gold. :-q
It’s sad so many are going, but holy hell there are a lot that must sell very little. I can’t imagine Sam Gawith ever sold a lot of Otterhound or X Blend or Yellow Crest Scented etc. I’m not putting those snuffs down–I never tried them. It’s just hard to imagine there’s a huge market for them. I would have liked to try them all, but these days I’m trying to stick to just a couple and actually finish tins before they go stale.
If anyone has any full discontinued WoS tins left i’ll buy them! dont want to snatch up all of them just a chance to try a few before they go,
Mr Snuff still has a bunch, so place an order.
I’m happy that Dynamite and Lemon Grove are still around.
Awesome!!! thank you shop had lemon grove in the first time i went in there but avoided it as hadn’t snuffed much before and didnt know how i felt about the sound of lemon.
Really fancy it now!
To mr.snuff!!!
I’m gutted to have just found out - via this thread - that Chefdaniel has ceased production. No more Pure Virginia Toast!?
Wow…what the flying fuck?! I just checked the WoS site, and bloody fuckin flying hell! They’ve had to remove so many!!!
Really sad to see this. WoS made so many of my favourites. Glad to still see Best Dark, Crumbs of Comfort and Irish no22, though!
There was a list from wilsons a couple months ago about what they have kept and dropped. They droped 70-75% of their range. SG also had a list and has dropped a large portion of their range as well. @Nulliverse Chef Daniel passed in september, that is the reason old mill is defunct. Sad business that.
50ft_trad Nice list but you missed out WoS Princes
There is always someone that walks into a room that you have spent ages painting
and says “you missed a bit”.
That’s me.
As for the person at WoS that dropped Princes I think they should retire to the gun room.
@ArtChoo There’s a strong possibility that I have missed more. I didn’t have a definitive list to work from, and was just comparing what I could find offered for sale at some outlets, compared with what is now listed on their site. @SandwhichIsles the list from a couple of months ago didn’t reflect the final changes, for example the original list said that Grand Cairo would be dropped and Royal George retained, when in fact the reverse happened @Mike_B Good luck with finishing the tins you have opened already without opening more. I am dreadful at that, and now have over 60 different “live” snuffs in play at the moment, not counting the couple of dozen I’ve transferred to 70ml glass jars to try and get them to keep longer. I could probably go through the rest of the year snuffing merrily without having to open another tin
Braniff: Whisky
Braniff: Caribbean
F&T Bureaux is no longer on WoS web site. It is still advertised in a few internet shops.
So tuck in whilst you can.
Right now, I’m just so glad I managed to get royal george before it disappeared. It’s such a fabulous snuff! HOW COULD ANYONE DISCONTINUE THIS?!?!?
Royal george is slightly floral, vanilla…I’m gonna try to only use one snuff grain daily so that it’ll last me forever.
^^^ I felt the same way about Brunswick, Burgundy, Irish Coffee, and Thyme and Lemon. I’m glad they kept a few SPs, Best Dark, Grand Cairo, Ani Euc, Wall, Grove and a few others. Their current catalogue seems to be quite heave on menthol offerings which aren’t for me, but they’ve kept plent of others to keep a smile on my face. I’m also really glad that most of the F&T’s survived, and quite enjoying the “new” Rumneys Brown too.
Bah! I can’t update my list with the additions from n. and ArtChoo. Maybe I should fire an email off to Davy’s and find out what’s happening with the M&W and Convent snuffs. Can anyone confirm if any other Bernard snuffs have been lost recently, or if it was just the Virginie? Maybe also Rosinski, Gotard, Stok, Abraxas for that matter? An update list of the fallen is probably in order once we get answers in

Aw crap! That’s another great swathe of my favourites gone
After reading that, I went straight to a website of one of my preferred suppliers and started filling the cart… but managed to stop myself. It’s not realistic to try to hold onto every snuff I’ve ever liked. I already have what is probably a 10 year stash. Time to start letting go.
I’d love to stock up on Prime Minister - I didn’t realize how good of a blend it really was.
I’m with you 100% @50ft_trad Trying to hold on is just delaying the inevitable. We’re all adults - we can live without different “flavors”. Really though, they can come back. We’ve seen pipe tobaccos of all kinds come and go through the years. To hear that Dunhill is getting out of tobacco though it incredible - I mean, it’s DUNHILL. Oh well.
I noticed earlier on one website that some of the SG snuffs have started coming through with new names, which means that we should soon know how many of their snuffs have survived this debacle
@50ft_trad Which site?
@SandwhichIsles http://snuff.me.uk/proddetail.asp?prod=SGSEL Check the flavours in the pull down menu Rberry, Keswick, Madegascar, Black Arabica, and some more familiar names. I’m hoping that’s not the full extent of the survivors
Elmo’s and Kendal Brown are there. As much as I like a few others those are the only two that truely matter to me.
The ones that are absent that I’m concerned about are Grousemoor, Toffee, and London Brown (although two of which, I already have a reasonable stash of). I’m very glad the KB and Vanilla survived, and I really hope the Scotch is SP Scotch. It looks like the only surviving (non-mentholated) floral is Cob Dark. I haven’t tried that one yet, but this forum generally has good things to say about it
I like cob dark. It’s very much a lakeland scent, if you know the pipe tobacco.
Almost every pipe tobacco I’ve smoked has been a Kendal tobacco, so I’m happy with that. CCP unscented is one of my favourites, and I’m quite partial to Ennerdale too. Thanks for the insight.
I have just spoken to the Segar and Snuff Parlour in Convent Garden to ask about the Convent and Mullins & Westley lines. The boss man (Robert) is off ill at the moment, and the guy manning the shop today is unsure what the “official” status is. He’s 80% sure the lines are continuing, but he’s going to find out the official answer from the management and get back to me via email in the next day or so. I will of course update you all with their official statement when I receive it.
I’ve updated my list with what is believed to have been lost from the Kendal brands, which without takes the ongoing tally to over 200 varieties of snuff that have been lost in the last 12 months
This is the worst year in the history of snuff, I’m actually quite surprised snuff lasted this long. This nanny state world of perpetual corruption will destroy everything that gives us joy. The 1% will never let us be happy.
More like the globalists and their brainwashed horde of liberal/socialist sheeple.
I managed to get an answer back from Segar and Snuff this morning. They say they are still working on the future of the Mullins and Westley and Convent brand snuffs. They go on to say “it would be fair to say that the range will be reduced, although we may stock some snuffs from Wilsons of Sharrow and Gawith Hoggarth to replace a few of the missing lines”. So I suppose the short answer is still, watch this space.
I am not going to accept that SG Elmo’s Reserve, Kendal Brown and Black Rappee are going!!! I am going to keep on them until they have a change of heart. If you love these snuffs there no reason we cant have a snuff protest, until they reconsider. I have sent a message through to their email enquiries@gawithhoggarth.co.uk asking if they can confirm that these snuffs are going. I also asked if they would make up special bulk snuffs of the discontinued range for personal request. I hope they will get back to me and answer these questions. I am still optimistic. Anyway wouldn’t you think these snuffs would be selling quite well at the moment?
Do remember they’ve made these decisions to keep the company viable. It’s a matter of cut the range, or stop trading.
Understood @50ft_trad. Thanks for going to the trouble of providing this info. Do you have any insights into what could be causing these disappointing cuts?
@Nulliverse I apologize I had missread a post. Samuel Gawith Elmo’s Reserve, Kendal Brown and Black Rappee are staying! I hope I did not worry you
Thanks @Aamon! Am relieved that they are staying… but still very disappointed that so many of my other fav SG’s have been slashed. Gold Mull, High Mill, Jasmin, Lavender Dark etc
@Nulliverse This thread will give you a rough idea of why this is all happening… http://snuffhouse.com/discussion/11206/new-eu-laws-and-the-impact-on-our-passion/p1
Thanks for the heads up 50ft_trad. Will read up. Edit: Have read the whole thread. Thanks for your input re: this unsettling business @50ft_trad.
Wilsons of Sharrow Princes
Gawith Hoggarth Scented Kendal Brown
Snuffstore Cafe Noire
Abraxas Connoisseur Cerise which I was lucky enough to get a tin of. Better to have loved and lost? Almost wished I never tried it since no kind person on this forum has a large quantity sitting around which they don’t really use and would be happy to sell me and make me so happy
I really enjoy the GH Lakeland, which a member very generously gifted a full vac tin of to me. Sad I can’t have more
Just a thought. If every product needs to be registered annually, manufacturers could rotate their snuffs. For instance, GH releases four snuffs this year: Special M, SP, Cafe Regal and CM. Next year GH could swap to making Lakeland, Sea Breezes, Irish D and English Rose. Etc, etc. That is, if GH can afford producing only four.
It would make more sense with SG, still making over 20 snuffs. Such rotation.
I actually still have some unopened tins of royal George and Strausborg as well as other assorted snuffs no longer made. I’m too disorganized to search them out, but stumble upon one pretty regularly. I am now rediscovering the Jaxson’s line, which I am quite enjoying. They changed their tins from SG style to Mc Chrystal’s style. Hmmm. What could that mean?
Royal George was discontinued? Or you mean, pre “New royal George” royal George? I’ve got about 3g of Strasbourg in a tin too. It’s been rehydrated a couple of times, I’ve meant to use it up out of respect but I never really took to it.
I was really fond of Cafe Partisan from Gadsden Mill. The US nanny police put an end to that, unfortunately.
I loved 747.
Sternecker Aecht Fresko
Sternecker Fresko
Sternecker Straubinger Schmalzler
I have some good news.
Mullins and Westley will soon be back on the shelves.
I met the man himself at a tobacco show and persuaded him to sell us a few tins. I am not sure if this will be a regular supply, but i will certainly be doing my damndest to make it so.
I’ll post when I get them. Order placed and money paid so I am hopeful…
