I bought Three Thistles Sweet and Strong scotches on a suggestion from Tom F and found both offerings to be exceptional. To me it delivers the same hit as rooster, but overall has a nicer, more delicate yet complex flavor. There’s more than just BBQ there. I also found the sweet to be just as strong as the “strong” version, but having a much subtler taste and preferrable post nasal drip. I can take large amounts of both the sweet or the strong, neither burns nor bothers me but I seem to like the sweet the best. Not that I mind Rooster which I can also rail in huge amounts without it burning all that bad, but I just find myself using much more of the Three Thistles and enjoying it better than just about any other scotch. For the positive impression and lasting glow the Three Thistles line gave me, it surprises me just how little press it gets. In a world of Dholakia Whites and NTSU’s and Rooster, my other favorites, it seems one of the most under-rated snuffs out there because I would put it in the same class with regards to enjoyment. I’ve been reading many of the forum posts for the last 4-5 months and I didn’t find that Swisher’s Three Thisles gets mentioned much. Besides this thread there are only two others discussing it, ever! Even google doesn’t have it on the pick list when you type in “Three Thistles snuff”. This seems to be a very open minded community of very diverse people from just about everywhere. Maybe people go mad for it like I do and just don’t discuss it? Does anyone like Three Thistles, or do I have to buy like 50 tins (because scotches last a long time in storage) before it gets canceled like so many other american snuffs? Anyhow I thought so highly of this offering that it merits a discussion of its own. Let me know what you think if you’ve bought it, tried it etc. I’d like to get a pulse on what people think about this snuff only because I like it so much and it gets so little exposure. And if you guys haven’t tried it, I highly recommend it. Ciao!
Three Thistles is my third favorite American Scotch. I use it about three or four times a week. In Strong Scotches, I like Garrett better, also Garrett is more widely available.
I like it a lot. I think it was the very first snuff I ever tried, though I can’t be sure. I have not yet picked a favorite scotch, but 3 Thistles would definately be in the top 5. I can buy it locally, and I’ve seen it in stores that sell snuffs fairly often, so I don’t think its in danger of getting canceled. It seems pretty popular. DeVoe Sweet is cancelled though (last I heard). It was predeceased by its mate DeVoe Scotch. I’m glad I had the pleasure of their aquaintences while I could. May they find each other in the hereafter. (Actually I’m not shedding any tears over DeVoe. Its good but there are too many similar ones out there.)
Yep…This is an underated snuff.I only use it once or twice a week…or when I need a quick “Blast” of nicotine.Very nice BBQ flavor but not overwhelming.I have been so pleased with this snuff I have not bothered trying Rooster or other potent Scotches! The Wiz!
I think swisher snuffs are, in general, under rated. Not only do they have the largest selection of any US snuff maker, but there are some real gems in there. Navy, Rail Road Mills and Three thistles all have an excellent scotch and sweet. And I could not forget the occasional tryst with Checkerberry or Macoby when I want something different. But Starr, wild cherry, honeybee and honest all find regular rotations on my line up.
Honest is Conwood. But overall, I really like the Swishers, and I “think” they may be my fave. Their Superior is very good too.
I also love 3 Thistles plain, along with WE Garret, Square, RR Mills and Honest plain scotchs. I don’t do the sweets much at all. Buttercup and Honest seemed to be my favorites, AIR. Wild Cherry was also good.
Agreed… It is unique and under-rated. So much snuff and so little time.
Of all the American brands, I believe I like this one the most (Three Thistle Strong). It’s strong, it’s pretty, it’s pretty dang strong. The gray plastic container seals well, not that it’s moist and needs it. I just tried to get a good whiff of it and it burned my eyes! It’s always rewarding, to our friends over the pond, pick up an American classic, if you get a chance. Europe is blowing the doors off of the snuff world, for flavors and options, but we got a few classics, too.
I ordered alot of snuffs recently. American and Foreign. Three Thistles is definately my favorite scotch! It is strong, it seems easier for this rookie to do, and there is more then just bbq in the flavor. My next order will include several tins of this!!
My opinion is unchanged from when I reviewed Three Thistles Strong Scotch a couple years ago. Good snuff. Never did get a chance to try the sweet. It’s hard to find around here now.
Three Thistle Strong is without a doubt my favorite scotch, hence my icon
I also like TTS, always have it in stock.
