Anyone want to buy my neti pot?
probably better to leave the tobacco up your nose until you blow it next…
I live in Connecticut and i found no cases of this in my state on wikipedia. Regardless I am going to research the quality of water in my town, I love my netti pot and wont stop using it, I use it about once a week and wont have a problem boiling the water first.
Louisiana actually falls about 30th in per capita income.
Most of the municipal water supplies come from aquifers. Some do use river’s as water sources.
I have always been told to used distilled water or boil water before using it in a neti pot
@Ansel : " probably better to leave the tobacco up your nose until you blow it next…" Agreed
“only 32 infections were reported in the U.S., despite millions of people swimming in lakes and rivers”
How can you worry about THAT and be willing to drive… or eat eggs (salmonella) … or get on a plane…
I prefer THIS risk to to the unknown risk of leaving tobacco, a proven carcinogen in every context EXCEPT snuff so far, in my nose.
DOES makes sense to hedge the risk by using my water filter! If its an amoeba it should be pretty ‘big’ as compared to a virus or something that cant really be filtered.
Thanks for the heads up. Using bottled water kept at room temperature seems a simple enough solution for me. Who knows what else is in our tap water that could disturb the sinuses. I’ll take heed for sure even though I rarely use the netti.
I agree with Gsnuff … look at the odds … use bottled water for paranoia’s sake … but in the end, the risk seems very very very low for most …
MEH
Just buy a gallon of distilled water
Problem solved
Every year a few people down here die after swimming in lakes and rivers. I stick to the ocean and sanitized pools.
Either way, a truely snuff-relevant and interesting discussion. Thanks to Ansel for posting!
I used one a few times and stopped. I don’t like it, I don’t think it does anything for you, imo. It made my sinuses and nose more sensitive. I prefer to use traditional western methods for my home remedies. Now that I have disagreed with the moderators this post will be deleted…
Perhaps if you posted without provoking the moderation team your post would not get deleted.
The mods do a great job here and are second to none, the best on the net as far as I am concerned.
I have to agree with snuffster on this. There hasn’t been a single time a mods caused me to scratch my head in confusion. I might think they jumped the gun a little or taken a little more time then needed. Which is my proof they’re not wizards or other types of supernatural creatures. Too bad we can’t get them a round (of snuff of course). Without the mods this would be a typical discussion forum. Just enough jerkiness and impoliteness to stop reasonable discussion. This is one of the few places on the internet I can go and not think some people are placed here by aliens to make us give up hope for humanity.
Thanks for your support Bob. Moderating is very much a damned if you do, damned if you don’t type occupation. No doubt we get things wrong but every decision we ever make is designed purely so that people can talk about this hobby without the bullying presence of the jerks you get everywhere else on the net. The sarcastic, the mean spirited, the people that can never say a good word will always have a short life on this site. They are usually the ones that think they have some kind of right to be here, like the place is run by the government or something. Funny that.
More boards should be run this way. You guys do a good job of keeping this a civil and pleasant place to visit.
I don’t mind a little sarcastic humor but I have no time for internet tough guys.
I love when someone is moderated and they insist they are protected by their right to free speach. The worst part of moderation is you have to look at things from multiple angles and sometimes say it doesn’t matter if this is right or wrong it just doesn’t work here.
Two of the things I have done that I have no desire to do again…Be a mod and referee a basketball game.
Umm… Getting back to neti pots…
Many people probably do not have the patience to let gravity do the work for them with flow. If anybody here falls into that category, I would suggest:
NeilMed Sinus Rinse – a plastic squeeze bottle. that lets you squirt the water into one nostril and let it come out the other while you keep your head (pretty much) upright. A bit of pressurization helps the flushing process too! see:http://www.neilmed.com/usa/sinusrinse.php
Save yourself some money – buy a pound of seasalt instead of those little packets!
Howdydave,
I have one of those and the first and only time I used it I thought my head was going to explode. I’ll stick to my Neti-Pot (which I use nearly everyday) and put my trust in Northumbrian Water.
Howdy Toque!
I pretty much stick with my neti pot too, unless there is some major blockage to contend with. Once that is taken care of, I’ll finish the job with my neti pot because the slower flow will rinse out every nook and cranny. If your neti pot came with a measuring spoon for salt, I would still suggest that you get either some sea salt or uniodized salt from your local market.
I have no problems using city water from Rochester, New York.
Yep, I get my sea salt from the local organic shop.
When I run out of packets I usually use sea salt, but I like the packets because I always end up putting too little or too much salt (ouch!)
As for Louisiana reports…
Must be all those little critters swimming around in the swamp water!
Wouldn’t a decent amount of salt(s) kill off most of the nasties (that are present in some fresh water)?
especially after boiling AND salting it, what could survive that?
“especially after boiling AND salting it, what could survive that?”
lol, I forgot!
