got a box of lotbeck “mit menthol”. even though the name translates as “with menthol” there is no methol in there. that i am sure about. what is there is a sickly sweet smell, that really makes me want to throw up. i know this is a very rude and not-so-useful descripton, but i have no other. trying to describe it, there is cheap perfume, brasil tobacco as in cheap cigars (“stumpen”) and a sick smell of rotting cadavre. also the color is very strange, ocker i think. did i get a bad batch? what is your experience with this and other lotzbeck snuffs…?
I like all the Lotzbeck snuffs, the Perle and the Premium in particular. I can detect very slight hint of menthol in the Menthol, but only slight. The Lotzbeck snuffs remind of the Molens ones to some extent and I like those as well.
Just tried the Lotzbeck mit Menthol again - actually it’s more like peppermint, but very subtle.
I gave Lotzbeck a chance and can safely say that it’s not for me and that I wasted my money. It reminds me of drinking water out of an empty coke can that’s been sitting out in the sun, so the leftover syrup melds with the water in those horrible state of super-dilution. when I snuff Lotzbeck, all it does is leave me unsatisfied and annoyed so that I must pick up another snuff and forget that I even own the Lotzbeck. Or maybe I’m being overly bitter!
ermtory: thank you for your opinions on that. maybe it will grow on me or maybe i got a bad batch or maybe it is just not for me. glad to hear someone enjoys it.
It all goes to show we all have different tastes. One of my personal favourites is Smith’s Golden Cardinal yet I know that a lot of people really don’t like that one. Maybe I just have strange tastes!
I have just recently got a new tin of lotzbeck perle, Its been some time but i have also gone through a tin of premium… They both seem pretty similar in that the both have a strange sweet fruit flavor, I also love the fermented and malty flavors they have… A little to most for my liking… I do enjoy this one as an evening snuff very relaxing…
I bought a tin of Lotzbeck Perle a long while ago. It looked and tasted like some sort of rank dust you would find in a basement that has a history of mildew. I didn’t like it very much.
lotzbeck doesn’t seem to hold up to time very well. I love the snuffs don’t do them all the time I like finer dryer snuffs typicaly. Once they start to dry out they aren’t the same as they are fresh. Even the premium (mild menthol) goes from smelling like a mapley slightly fruity syrup awesomeness to a sort of sweetened tea scent.
I hate to jump on the Lotzbeck bashing train, but I have not enjoyed the two I have tried either. The first tin I bought was the Perle and I picked it up at an actual tobacco store. I was happy to find a place that actually had about 9 different snuffs in AZ. I got the Perle at that store, but didn’t open in until I was a little further down the road. Had I been close enough to make it worth my while I would have gone back and complained that they sold me a completely old, dried out tin. It was unsnuffable and I wound up tossing it. Later I bought a tin of menthol from Nic Rush because I thought I should give 'em another try. It was certainly a little bit fresher and moister, but still it was not very good. I have been told the premium and the vanilla are both very good, but I haven’t tried either yet. After you try two snuffs from one company that you don’t like, it’s hard to justify giving them another chance.
I’ve only tried Lotzbeck Vanille. I quite like it. It has a strong vanilla scent that sticks around for a while.
I too have only tried Lotzbeck Vanille. I like the bookstore/cigar shop aroma it produces and willing to try others.
I was hesitant of the vanilla… Vanilla is for ice cream and cakes!!! I am curious if it’s moist?
indeed moist!
I don’t typically like vanilla flavored products. However, I recently broke down and decided to try Toque Vanilla and I love it. So, I would consider still giving Lotzbecks vanilla a try
Lotzbeck doesn’t seem to travel or keep well at all. This was one of the first snuffs I ever used, as it was about the only thing I could find in my neighborhood in Hamburg. I still pick it up when I go to Germany, but every time I have bought it in the US – either through a shop or via internet, it seems spoiled. I don’t know of another snuff that quite does this.
Just tried the Lotzbeck Vanille for the first time. I really like it. Strong vanilla flavor and smells so sweet in the nose, yet doesn’t taste like sugar (I can always taste the sugar when I use the American sweet snuffs). Not an all day snuff for me but really the only all day snuffs for me are scotches (Rooster) and toasts (no.22). Time will tell how long before it dries up. But as you may have guessed I like 'em dry anyway. The perle and premium milds I’ve had were very dry even when I first opened, but I liked them fine. Anyone else ever tried the Lotzbeck Brasil Schmalzer? I really liked that one a lot.
