Losing smell or is it just summer?

Here in the Pacific Northwest, I’ve been snuffing since September, so not quite a year. Now, my first tin of Thor’s Hammer smelled like a barnyard and I loved it. But my second tin, which just arrived, has very little or no smell, nothing much of anything. Same with the Thor’s Dark. Might the summer heat contribute to lack of fragrance? If so, why?

To be clear, I keep my tins between an airtight glass jar with canning lid for the unopened tins, a clamped down/sealed tupperware box and my pocket, all in the dark.

Does outside temperature impact the snuff fragrances or has my nose changed, or the tobacco changed?

My favorite snuffs including Jock’s Choice, Thor’s Hammer, Jip! + Smoker’s Blend, and Hedges among many others. They all seem ‘muted’ in the summer and had all seemed so very vibrant and ‘bright’ in the winter. Or am I overthinking?

Thanks!

Your woes are more likely due to anosmia. Anosmia may be seasonal, associated with seasonal allergies. You could always have a blood test for identifying any allergies.
Sharrow snuffs (including the Viking range) are all dated on the bottom of the container so you can check how fresh they are.
Overuse of medicated snuffs can have a rebound effect causing congestion which in turn can lead to temporary anosmia.

Looks like I need to sit it out for awhile - bummer!

Update: Yes indeed, anosmia it was…I took a break, and lo and behold, after three or four days I can smell my beloved barnyard snuffs! Thanks PhilipS2. I do love my medicated snuffs - Hedges every morning. And every evening. I like it with lunch, and I like it with ham. Sam I am!

Smelling coffee grounds and the use of at least a little bit of menthol (not medicated, as camphor overloads the olfactory bulb) should help improve your dilemma. If I’m not tinned with menthol for the day, I use Snuffy Weiss in between sessions.

I relied heavily on camphor during my first few removals of decomposing human remains, just a bit of the stuff can and will shut down your olfactory system.
