Loose Snus

I just bought a package of General Loose Snus. Any tips on how to take it? I’ve tried the portions, but I like how you can use more with the loose. It just seems to make my front teeth black. Seems like it’d be better in the bottom lip.

Take a good sized pinch from the can and put in your left palm. Slowly shape it into a cylinder with the fingers of your right hand, pushing against the side of your left palm as you gently “cup” the hand that your using to rest the pris in while your baking it with the fingers of the other. Use your body heat to mold it and get it to stick together. Within a minute or so you should have baked a good pris. Then grasp it between your right forefinger and thumb and insert in between you cheek and your gum on the LEFT side. If you try to do it on the right side, it makes a mess. The bigger the pris, the easier it is to get it to stick together because your lip puts pressure on it. Always insert a pris on the opposite side of the hand that your using. If you lower lip General, it will slide around and you’ll wind up with a mouth full of tobacco. You also salivate less when you put it between your upper cheek and gum. A properly baked pris of General Los should be good for about an hour if you upper deck it. I tried to find a video on youtube; even 6 months ago there were some good ones, but now it’s just a bunch of stupid kids making music videos about snus. I’ve gotten to the point where I can bake one with my left hand in less than 30 seconds, and I’m right handed, but I don’t have a camera. Just mold it into a cylinder, get it to stick together with pressure and body heat, and gently insert the compacted cylinder between your upper cheek and gum. Check out the youtube videos on snus baking if you want, but I’d rather see the video of Hendrix playing Red House at the Randalls Island Pop Festival.

It has to be cold, right? Mine has been out of the fridge for a few hours and i ended up with a black hand.

You can roll a nice prilla with your fingers after some practice, it’s not difficult. Don’t mind the shape too much but solidity so snus ball doesn’t break. Put prilla as up under your lip you can. General is little tricky to hand bake, though, but you’ll learn it. Wouldn’t recommend lower lip because snus doesn’t actually TASTE very good.

bigblue posted a youtube video a few months ago. I learned from that video. Its real easy. do advanced search on the snuffhouse, comments by bigblue1 and try the word "snus’ for starters. He might be on himself later and bump it for you. Its really pretty easy. easier than rolling a cigarette!

I doesn’t have to be cold. I think most users keep them out, and in Sweden they just keep them in their pocket. There are some tools made for making portions, the cheap plastic Prismaster, and the more expensive metal Icetool. You can also make a cheap plastic Icetool like tool with a syringe. But doing it by hand it not hard. The snus is almost like Play Dough, and you just mash it into a form, and stick it in your upper lip. Start making a small one, I found I would inadvertently make them too big. But it’s a practice thing. For me, it didn’t matter which side I put it in. I emptied a few cans of loose snus, I think I liked the Grov and Ettan best, but they were all not bad. I found I prefer portion snus, which I use at work, and when out, but at home, I’m more inclined to use loose leaf chew.

I use nothing but General Los have for 10 years I just make a small ball about the size of a hazelnut using my forefingers, pack it tight and place it in the upper lip this is how I was shown to do it by the Swedes.

wow. thanks. that looks too easy! lol

The harder part is getting it where it belongs in your mouth without causing a mudslide. Which is why I suggested if you use your right hand to bake it, you insert it with your right hand on the left side of your mouth.

@saucy_jack I use both hands when making it, thumbs and indexfingers. Pack it up hard, then i just pop it in my mouth and, use my tongue to flip/place it just right/left of centre. it took me about half a can, then i got the hang of it… when you start make bigger ones. when it looks like the picture above, take a bit off for the size you want, and put it in the top lip…enjoy

I was about to edit my post little but ukiceman said what I wanted to say, agree with his advice.

General actualy is really easy to barely pris. Grab a hunk of snus that stays together when you pick it up. Lift you lip with one hand, place the snus under your lip (still holding it in place), let go of your lip then let go of the pris. It will spill a little wipe or spit that out(the pit that spill.). It will feel really loose but should for a while.

If my hands are too dirty to bake a pris i just take a pinch of snus , place it on my tongue and shove all i can under my lip and spit the excess out. It ain’t pretty but who cares. It’s not going to hold together as long as a properly baked pris but it does the job.

This is an excellent thread. i picked up some loose snus Long cut and Fine cut at the tobacco show in Vegas and I admit I was somewhat at a loss as to what to do with it since the only snus I have used to date has been in the little tea-bags. Now it is all clear. As a matter of interest is unbagged snus more popular than the bagged kind? Is there any difference in ‘effect’? Is loose snus more of a real snussers choice or does it not make any difference? The reason i am so interested is because I am considering getting some stock for MrSnuff. thanks for any input. Dave

I really think it’s 50/50. I prefer portion snus, as do many others, but then, the loose have a large fan base too. Seems about 50/50 to me. Often people use the portion at work, or out and about, and use the loose at home, but then some use loose always, and some use portion always. MrSnuff, if you do carry snus, which I think is a good idea, I would recommend carrying something different that all the other shops don’t have. I’m especially interested in Indian snus, being an Indophile and all. I mean, if you just carry what getsnus does, I don’t see a point, whith their $2.95 shipping too. But if it was something different, like Soex brand snus, that no one else carries, you’d have something unique. This: Makla Ifrikia http://www.snusworld.ch/catalog/index.php?cPath=23&osCsid=85304b82ae6915ee960efc85a0a2301b and: Pure Makla(I think the brand has portions too) http://www.tabakonline.ch/artikel\_17\_304\_0\_0\_kautabak\_pure\_makla.html Just my suggestions. I would not get alot to start with. Edit! I read the Pure Makla is just Offroad rebranded, so I would pass on that. But the Makla Ifrikia types, Soex, and City Filter snus might be interesting. There is Chaini Khani snus, which Northerner sells, but it gets bad reviews.

If MrSnuff stocks snus you wulldn’t hve any extra shipping charges since it would be part of your already larger snuff order. you do realize that if your order is big enough you can get free shipping with him, right? (I think its orers over $100 but not sure). If he stocks mini white portions of the following flavors (I current use general and ‘catch dry’ brands for these but if there are less common brands and types I’d try them and very likely buy from him, so long as they are in the following form: Mini white tobacco-flavored portions mini white mint-flavored portions mini white licorice-flavored portions if Ettan or somebody makes these (for example on the general mini plaine I get, besides General) and I’m not able to get them on getsnus but MrSnuff were to stock that instead, etc that’d be fine with me. I’ve already told him I’d like to see him be my one stop snuff shop (he very nearly is that now, the way he’s going I don’t suspect I’ll need to make orders elsewhere again) if he were to carry snus I can use he could very easily become my entire one-stop tobacco store.

I wish he’d get the General, and Roda, tobacco cuts. These are very hard to get. But for me personally, it’d have to be something rare. I’m a lite snuffer generally speaking, and unless he get’s some new Indian snuff, I’m pretty set as far as snuff goes.

Having been in business, I think the way to go is the high volume items to start with. It is hard to introduce new products to a market without a lot of advertisement. General, Roda Lacket and Ettan come to mind. Once you have established yourself as a snus dealer then you can branch out to more exotic offerings. Good Luck and Good selling.

I realize this is a los snus topic, but since MrSNuff chose here to announce this, I have to ask him to please really consider the mini portions of a few standard white flavors -which really are staple and standard items
