Looking for a down-home tobacco-flavored snuff

Hi Everyone  I’ve gone through the forums looking for a list of some good old-fashioned tobacco-flavored snuffs, and it’s a bit overwhelming :-t My favorite snuff right now is Taxi Red, followed by QSnuff Natural Smokers Blend, and ending with Viking Brown. Problem is, Taxi Red is hard to find at this point in time. Mr. Snuff and the other main website are both out of stock. So, before I place my next order, I’d like to get a couple of new kinds of snuff. It costs like $10 to ship, so I need to make each order count :stuck_out_tongue: I do very poorly snuffing the fine, powdery snuffs - they shoot into my throat and mess me up. The Dholakias, Toque Quit, etc. I can’t do them. So I’m looking for something similar in moistness, grind, ease of snuffing, etc. to Taxi Red, the Viking snuffs, etc. I really love the tobacco-flavored snuffs, so I’m trying to get a good list going. I appreciate your input! troop

Samuel Gawith Kendal Brown Plain comes to mind. Also Bernard’s Gekachelter Virginie although too smoky and strong for me seems to be very well liked. Some seem to consider the VG to be a Schmalzler, but it’s actually quite dry and plain compared to most of them. The texture and moistness should be close to for example Viking Brown.

Try Molens DeKralingse FCV 250 and FCV 400. Nothing but Flue Cured Virginia in all its natural glory.

WoS Best Dark, SG Elmos Reverse, SG London Brown, SG Silky Dark, SG Scotch Black, in fact just work you’re way steadily through all SG course snuffs, there’s some really nice flavours in there that might surprise you. Toque also do a plain coarse snuff, only available in 400g economy bags though. MdK Latakia AO1860 as well as the FCVs. SG and GH Kendal Browns maybe. EDIT: forgot to add, all SG and GH purchases should be 25g tins or tubs, not the horrendous 10g dust boxes

Here are a few Samuel Gawith- Red, Blue, and Yellow Crest (I would start with Blue if you have to choose only one- the Blue has the nice scent of hay and brighter tobacco while the Red smells like a leather chair in an old study- just make sure to get the unscented version when you are ordering) De Kralingse Mettaijer- From the description you would not think this one was going to have a natural tobacco scent but it does and is very nicely behaved (not finely ground and good moisture) De Kralingse also has Hollandse Bolongaro (good natural scent with a little burn to it) as well as Ladakia A/O 1860 (Which is very rich and smoky like the name implies- this one is probably not an all day snuff but really good) Silver Dollar Natural is good as well as Viking Dark Samuel Gawith unscented Kendal Brown and London Brown might be worth your time to check out as well as Gawith Hoggarth’ Kendal Brown- this also has a smoky and leather smell to it and a good bit of burn. I would use it more but it makes my nose run like all get out Hope this helps…let us know what you order

Thank you for your reply  I don’t know what these abbreviations mean though (I’m pretty much brand new) - SG, WoS, GH, etc.

Thanks for your reply  Alright, so the Samuel Gawith Blue, which you recommend, has a nice earthy tobacco flavor then? When you say to make sure you get the unscented, is this something I really need to keep my eye open for, or does this Samuel Gawith Blue only come in an unscented but tobacco-flavored kind? https://mrsnuff.com/product\_info.php?products\_id=2080&osCsid=qbl12qf1hmkqvr01stmsqbfn40 I’m looking at the product here, and it’s saying that it’s of dry moisture. Would you agree to that? I can’t do those dry powdery snuffs :stuck_out_tongue: And again, thank you all so much! You’re really helping me out

I’m pretty new myself but as far as I know: SG is Samuel Gawith WoS is Wilsons of Sharrow GH is Gawith Hoggarth those abbreviations are quite common on the forum.

WoS = Wilsons of Sharrow SG = Samuel Gawith GH = Gawith Hoggarth MdK = Molens de Kralingse Apologies for the confusion

Red Blue and Yellow Crest all come in a scented and plain variety. So choose according to your preference. And Yes they are all on the dry side but the grind is not real fine (like Sparrow, White, or a Toast) thus I don’t find theme that hard to control. In fact, I would say they are better behaved than most Toque snuffs

That’s got me tempted to try them now @Snifs I can’t take the finer snuffs (dodgy hooter) but if they’re easier than Toques, it might give me a fighting chance

Bernard Civette Extrafein: similar moistness as a schmaltzler but not made from fermented tobacco it is a bit smokey, a bit sweet hay, and a very background piquancy/musky note. Bernard Alt Offenbacher Kostlich: a little less moist, darker with a pronounced smokiness and flue-cured Virginia scent.
