M

I am going to start buying Lorillard until Food Lion runs out

B

The poor guy probably thinks you are KrAzY for wanting to stick that stuff up your nose :-)) Good to see most of them are still in production, thank you for sharing!

The following is a list of some of the dry snuff that we produce.

^My emphasis. I doubt the guy even has a complete list himself. Also not sure if its a typo, or if he’s made a mistake, but Society and Strawberry are two separate ones.

M

@Xander They do use the term (some) and while I was doing a study on them, they used that term in all documents. I believe it is because they do produce snuff for other companies around the globe. I specified Lorillard as my favorite in (3) emails that I sent and would had thought that they would had least gave me a comforting assurance that it is on the list (I could be wrong) but I am not going to wait until I can’t get something to worry about it It would be nice if others that use Swisher products would go to the website: http://www.swisher.com/web/main/ and ask questions. Maybe the results will be different

X

I tried years back to contact them. I got very limited results. I remember them saying a rep would contact me but never did. They took my phone number down too. I had always figured it was just really too big a company to give much attention to this, and dry snuff was only a very small piece of their empire. Coupons were given out to some members a few years before my time here. I think there was some issue redeeming them. What snuffs for other companies do you think they make? They seem to have inherited the snuffs that they make from Helme, and thats about it. They have the best range of scotch snuffs and a couple odd ones (Maccoboy and Checkerberry) which seem to hold out although they had a second Maccoboy and a “High Toast” up until the '80s that they produced but were discontinued. I’ve managed to find the old Maccoboy (Lorillard Maccoboy) and its a bit different than the RR Mills. The High Toast has always had me curious if it would compare to an Irish High Toast. I’m pretty sure Lorillard Sweet is still made, but the regular Scotch and other Lorillard products are long gone. They were with Helme (before Swisher) but acquired by the monopoly from Lorillard itself before that.

X

Also I’m thinking they say “some” because they are not including, Ralph’s, Railroad Mills Plain, Three Thistle (Strong and Sweet) and Navy Plain all of which are still seen in places.

B

The coupons will probably be for grape -flavored cigars… Will be interesting to see what comes of it.

M

@Xander If I used the same prodution knowledge on snuff against what I know about printing ink, I would venture to say that even if something stops being produced, that tons not packed are still sitting in a warehouse. Specialty Ink company’s will put something in production when quantities hit a certain mark and use past sales to determine how much the should make. I am thinking of maybe sending about (5) emails asking the one question: “Do you still produce Lorillard (plain) or Lorillard (sweet)” Just in case it was a missed item My goal wasn’t to scare anyone but just pass on information that I collect and let you decide how it affects your life

M

@Bart I will produce pictures of whatever they send me

M

On snuff that they produce for other companies, I wouldn’t have a clue but they do state that they do it. Wouldn’t it be funny if they didn’t get into advertising a Nasal snuff because of a trade agreement that they have with other companies (conflict of interest)

B

The following is a list of some of the dry snuff that we produce.

Society and Strawberry are two separate ones.

Was going to ask, was there something I didn’t know… I figured as much though.

M

If you write or speak to customer service, I would ask him/her to confirm that they no longer make Railroad Mills Maccoboy, Lorillard Sweet, Ralph’s, Railroad Mills Plain, Three Thistle Strong, Three Thistle Sweet and Starr. (I sure hope they’re not out of production–those are among my favourite American snuffs. I wouldn’t shed a tear for the loss of Buttercup or Strawberry.)

M

@Mike_B I sent a reply to Michele’s email asking the direct question “Do you still make Lorillard?” (my favorite) I am hoping that a single question might give a clear response. I would suggest that you use the site above and ask specific questions several times and please share your response. I think that is the only way to get somewhere with big companies

M

@Mike_B Michele said that they still make Lorillard sweet (I am happy) She said she didn’t include it in the list because I mentioned that I still use it (assuming that I knew it was still in production)

M

So Patrick Dummer just sent me a text saying they have all flavors and asked what ones I couldn’t find. I just text’d him back saying that I was looking for information on snuff that may not be produced anymore like: Lorillard (plain) Lorillard (maccoboy) Railroad Mills (plain) Three Thistles (strong) Three Thistles (sweet) Starr I am sure most are still at distribution centers but the question is “Are they still being produced?” Which I don’t know if he would know. I’ll share his response when he sends it. Took him over a day to answer the first text (laughing) I emailed this same information to Michele

B

@MattheFox Thanks a bunch for making the effort and keeping us posted.

M

Not even a problem @bipolarbear1968 I have the most to gain being a big fan of Swisher snuffs.

B

@Matthefox, Be easy on Patrick Dummer. This is the most action Swisher has seen concerning dry snuff since the '50’s. His head may explode if you keep this up.

M

@Bart He sent a 2nd text saying that he can get them all. I would like to get a case of Lorillard (plain) which was considered a high toast but I will think on it over night. he seems to be a nice guy & I am sure Michele will confirm the factories intent on Monday

B

Ironically, I spoke with a Copenhagen rep at a store about a year ago about doing a dry snuff version. He seemed intrigued and interested. Someone needs to step up. I mean, we can put a man on the moon, (or at least film him in slow motion in a warehouse out west) and the US can’t produce and supply the public with snuff at EVERY store??

M

@Bart I feel even more dumbfounded because I can’t believe that you have to feed these people one question at a time to even have a chance at getting a honest reply. It is not a major task to make snuff nor is it hard to see how much money they can make from it. I am like “Duh”

M

@MattheFox: well if you do manage to find some Lorillard high toast I’ll gladly contibute towards a case.

M

@Mike_B I am just waiting on the email from Michele

M

OK, I hadn’t heard from Michele so I called Swisher International and They said she didn’t exist at least at their office. So I talked with a gentleman who gave me his email: smfleck@swisher.com When I started asking him about what snuffs are still being produced, he said that they still make some that are not on the website and that if one of your snuffs is not found to ask your store or vendor to see if it is still available. I talked to him for about 15 minutes and got him to say that Lorillard (plain) he couldn’t find information on But they still make a Railroad (maccoboy) Wouldn’t commit to saying that Railroad Mills (plain) was out of production but kept suggesting Square or Superior as a substitute That is the end of this investigation and the phone number is (904) 353-4311 if anyone else wants to try. He did try to start off by saying the same thing as Mr. Dummer that all were available but that is not the truth.

M

I got this from Swisher… $15.00 in coupons for bugging the crap out of them (laughing)

H

Still have not heard back from the only distributor in my region who might have a chance of getting any snuff. Might have to send pat another email. From the sounds of it if this distributor does not come though we in the midwest are screwed.

M

I got an email from Michele and she said that all the snuffs on my list (above) are available except Lorillard (plain) but said a Lorillard Maccoboy was around. I don’t know if it’s just catalog information on stock laying in warehouses or a catalog of stock they intend on producing. I am confused and done. Plan on storing the snuffs I like the best and play the wait and see game with the rest

N

I contacted Swisher about six months ago trying to get a case of RR Mills Plain and they said they would have a distributor contact me. A week later I contacted them again and said no one had contacted me. The next day the distributor called and said even though it was not in my area, he would have a store order a case and would contact me telling me where I could buy it. That was the end of that, so I just gave up.

M

@Nachman I am soooo done with the way they offer information. It’s like a simple truth is giving away a company secret. They honestly made me feel stupid

T

@MattheFox: Thank you so much for going the extra mile with these people, it seems as if it was quite stressful dealing with a company that doesn’t even know their own products! I will also be keeping an eye out for the Lorillard Maccoboy - sounds intriguing…

M

@Nachman: I thought you were the champion of Navy plain–have you switched or do you alternate?

S

First snuff I ever tried was Swisher Square… I like it… It reminds me of burning leaves in the fall or a camp fire.

N

@Mike_B, I have a case of Navy Plain sitting on my tobacco cabinet. I just wanted some RR Mills because it is so similar.

N

By the way, if you like scotches you ought to try Abraxas Dragun. I have been using more of it lately than scotch snuff.

M

I just got a tin of Buttercup, newly made and quite nice. The buttercup scent is a very mild floral, but hard to detect. Its similar to Honeybee, in texture and sweetness, very nice snuff, IMO.

S

It stinks that they are moving to sweet snuffs. They’re fine and all but get me soooo congested, but that shouldn’t be surprising, even according to the guys that make it they have no intention of people sniffing it.

S

@snuffsahoy Yea, unlike other scotches, a can of sweet snuff will last me a very, very long time.  They are good for stopping the postprandial craving for something sweet, whilst delivering a decent nic hit, they do do that; but I find them so bloody boring that I’d rather forego the strength and have a nice schmalzler do the job instead.

H

These products have such a low markup, and compete with the larger markup, greater marketshare, smoked junk they make, its a shame really, but where addictive substances go, the highest markup, most easily packaged and shortest shelf life kinda take the haul.

S

I think they’re cheaper because they use parts of the plants not used in other productions, like midribs and whatnot. An easy way to test if it’s a high % of lamina is how cohesive it is when wet, if it’s like clay it’s lamina. I’m away from my stash now so can’t tell if my scotches are that way or not, but just guessing. It really is amazing how efficient snuff is though compared to cigars, pipes and chew is.

H

I wish I could get a hook up on those Swisher dry sweet snuffs.Since I’m stuck here on Hawaii it’s very hard for me 2 get some.if anyone can help me out I’ll greatly appreciated.just pm me.I’ll pay+shipping,or trade very good snuff I promise u.I’ll keep my fingers crossed and pray that some1 can help me.

J

A lot of these snuffs are very abundant at my local grocery stores. I live in North Carolina and it used to be a lot of women used these snuffs orally in the South. The grocery stores keep them stocked. In fact, I buy a can every month so they don’t think it’s wasted shelf space So if someone wants a can that Mr Snuff doesn’t carry and you can’t get, let me know. I am happy to pick up what you want and put it in the mail. Gratis, because these snuffs are dirt cheap (around $4 for 1.15 oz.).
