Is anyone else having issues accessing Lil Brown’s site?
Looks like it is shut down. I wonder if it is anything to do with SCHIP? If you are interested, here is the contact info: Little Brown Smoke Shack Mike Sheppard (info@lilbrown.com) +1.5094576404 Fax: +1.5095751903 3201 Goodman Road Yakima, WA 98903 US Dave
they probaby have it down to update the prices
UPdate is probably the right word!
Yes…snuff won’t go up too too much thank goodness, but you will be seeing a small increase I am afraid… Unfortunately we have to pay taxes on existing stock as well so we can’t even sell you that at old prices. This bill will put a lot of the smaller retailers out of business I am sure. Especially those with a lot of RYO. I know of several small 'baccy shops that are already month to month as it is.
That sounds illegal as hell. How can they retroactively tax something? I guess they plan to run everybody out of business and then put everybody on the dole who’s not already on it. Sort of a twisted FDR fantasy… Short sighted though, no tax base = no more economy = time to start learning to speak Chinese.
I look at it as a sales tax. When a county raises the sales tax, anything you buy is taxed at that rate, no matter how old or new the stock.
sigh… the price of my hookah shisha has gone up too.
That’s not what he said. He said “we have to pay taxes on existing stock”. That is clearly a retroactive tax. He didn’t say “we have to charge higher taxes on anything we sell from now on”. But maybe that’s what he meant…Mr. Snuff would you please clarify for the membership?
The tax was a “floor tax”. There was a tax bite on all existing stock, then increased taxes on new sales. In effect everything in stock will be taxed twice. Makes the revenues for the gov look better or at least higher. If one had 500 pounds of RYO tobacco at @$25 dollar a pound tax due April 1… that’s a huge hit for a small business. They must not be part of the 95% that will see no tax increase.Lying bastard.
He meant 95% of his buddies.
If they(Big Brother) wanna tax something in an effort to “help” people, and the society, they should tax fast food. Taxing tobacco more and more will not stop users, and it will just open up a market for lower priced foreign made items, and put more American out of work. I know we as mainly users of imported snuff may not be changed so much, but my father is a cigg smoker, and if some cheap Mexican brand comes about, it will just bankrupt the US companies. We had a large tobacco factory near me, and now it’s an empty wasteland, and on the news this morning, it was talking about the local homeless making a tent city here. Tom502
Bigmick has it right. Taxes are due on everything currently in stock. It is indeed retroactive. From yesterday all imports will be taxed at the higher rate upon entry into the US market. Customs collects Fed taxes on behalf of the government, in addition to their own duties which are calculated as a % of the fed tax so they go up too. Great eh! It’s my favorite thing: taxes on tax. Then of course you have state taxes which if you think about it are taxes on taxes on tax (in addition to the original buy price of course). Simply put: you import $100 of snuff. You just paid the manufacturer $100 plus international shipping. It hits the US and Fed taxes you (for the sake of the point i am making lets make all taxes 10%). So you pay them $10. Now your product is ‘worth’ $110. So Customs applies their 10% on the $110. So now it is $121. Then the state applies their 10% on the new value, so now cost is $133. This is not strictly accurate of course since Fed is by weight and some states are too. But you get my point. Still, snuff got off fairly lightly. Glad I don’t have a huge stock of RYO!
Yeah I’m sure they are updating the prices on their site, they have a lot of inventory to go through… Wonder if anyone will still buy RYO? For Obama wanting to create jobs, he’s sure doing a good job of trying to end them. Theres your hook mr.snuff, you can create your own ryo and sell as raw coarse snuff. You can contact all the ryo forums etc. Or you could give it away with purchase of a very expensive handkerchief.
It’s hilarious how this simple thread has become an Obama bashing party.
Its easy to do.
I suppose that depends on your bias. What I have not heard anyone say is how their good ole Republican President allowed this to go by. But of course that wouldn’t be said now would it.
He stopped the SCHIP last time it came up. They had to wait for Democratic shift before they tried again.
I believe the same thing is going to happen to Americans which is going on in SA; government is taking away our firearms to clear the way for the criminals. They passed a law which cancelled my licenses, so now I’m a criminal owning unlicensed firearms.
Cstokes4, I really don’t place much of the blame on our current “prez”. Congress was the ones who thought this up , wrote it down and passed it. Mr. Barrack just signed it. He could have vetoed it, and if his promise of not raising taxes on 95% of us was worth a darn, he would have.
